Old Spice - Re: Everyone (This Is the Last Response Video)

kronosposeidon says...

I actually hope it ends now too. Not because I haven't enjoyed these ads. They've been the best series of commercials I've seen in ages. But when they keep drawing water from the same well they commit the greatest sin in advertising: Making it boring. Overexposure will do that every time.

So good bye, you ridiculously handsome man. If I were gay you'd top the list of my celebrity fantasies, but because I'm hetero my heart belongs to Amanda Seyfried. (Her eyes make me melt. Her beautiful smile and hot bod also stimulate my loins. Rowr!)

A new definition of irony

chilaxe says...

I love the vanity of the precise definition of "irony" being a cultural flashpoint that always leads to long-winded debates.

I'm going to share something shocking to the purists among us: I told the receptionist I was there to see the "podiatrist," and she said "the foot doctor?" She regularly deals with latino patients, so she tends to optimize her language-use for communication. Terrible, I know.

Kudos for admitting a mistake.

(Unsolicited advice)

Why are you always so concerned with what other people think? Maybe there is no veneer. Maybe people are just opinionated and confrontational on the internet. I find people to be more true to their nature while under the influence of internet anonymity, rather than less. Netizens are also, by and large, fairly liberal. Sorry for that, but those are the breaks.

You have some great points about food culture, but you bury them so deep with anger, insults and vanity, that no one takes them seriously. Not telling you to change your nature, only that you might be more influential if your ideas were not overshadowed by all your talk of sheep and monkeys. Too much stick, not enough carrot and not enough meat on the bone.

Thanks man...the tags for the bluebeam viddy were pretty fucking lame, huh??(sifting shitfaced...i am a wholly nonviolent drunk, btw, i giggle and cut up mostly) I can't help it, I get a rise out of reactions to stimuli....guilty guilty guilty....but not of racism. Of people's collective denial and their, "my shit stinks less than yours" kinnna attitude while hiding behind a veneer of social pantomime and incivility parading around unchecked and misrepresented as progressive thinking. I can't tell you how many times I have had discussions in real-time, which lead to mutual understanding given others misconception of me with regard to the spoken or written word.

These corporations are like a lion grrrrabbing a zebra by the throat. And every time we move the teeth just go deeper. They will never let go and its too late to do anything about it.
I can think of only one way to stop them at this point - a massive revolution by the people. In this country that is highly unlikely. We are surrounded by religious nutjobs who think Jesus is coming to take us away and could give a crap about this world. Men who care more about the size of their dick than anything else. And women who are always right, even when they are wrong, and only worry about their vanity. And I know that everyone doesn't fall into these categories, but too many do. Let's face it, us that care, we will never get enough support to back us on any issue that isn't in the corporate interest. They control everything, most important of which is information. They censor everything through the media and there is nothing that most people hear about that they don't want us to hear. As you can tell, I'm not optimistic about this situation at all.

Mate i share your lack of enthusiasm, i think we've reached a critical apathy point, where mostly no one cares enough about anything to get active or get involved unless it's something completely off the scale. The position that we have allowed our politicians, banks, and businesses to get into is something we should be extremely ashamed of. And today the people who are growing up to become the next generation of politicians bankers and heads of business are undereducated (to make school stats go up), indisciplined (because they might sue us if we shout at them at school), greedy (because we tell all kids that they're capable of things that they are clearly not) and apathetic themselves.

Hey kids, did you fail/barely pass all your schooling and colleges? Don't worry, everyone goes to university nowadays. We've watered it down so that you can go and learn whilst the bright people who push this world and humanity to new heights get a more watered down education which is also now spread across too many students! ENJOY YOUR LIFE OF OVER-QUALIFIED MEDIOCRITY. NO WONDER PEOPLE WITH DEGREES ARE UNEMPLOYED, DEGREES AIN'T WORTH SHIT ANYMORE. How come we suddenly send trade occupations through universities? I know loads of electricians and such that say they have to UNTEACH people the university degree that they spend £12000 on before they can learn properly how to be an electrician. Suddenly apprenticeships and on-the-job experience isn't good enough, we need them to sit in a fucking classroom and get huge student debt to do a good job? I guarantee in 1 generation we'll have a shortage of quality electricians. All our electricians will have a PhD but not a fucking clue how to change a fucking lightbulb.

AND WE ONLY HAVE STUDENT DEBTS BECAUSE WE CAN'T AFFORD UNIVERSITY GRANTS BECAUSE 90% OF THE POPULATION NOW GOES TO A UNIVERSITY TO DO A DEGREE WHICH THEY DON'T NEED OR PROBABLY EVEN USE.

Oh my god i had typed "I won't rant though." Then when i went back to correct a spelling mistake, i'd already ranted.

Mountain Dew + World of Warcraft makes child's dream reality

This promotion was also linked with the addition of new ingame non-combat pets called Battle Bots. As you can imagine, all the pet collectors, kiddies and many others were gleefully logging in to the Blizzard site to register their accounts for one.
What's troubling to me is that this could be the model for future advertising and product placement in the game. These 'vanity' style pets are very popular: there are lots of them and the game records Xbox style achievements for collecting a whole bunch.
If this promotion is successful, i.e. their sales of Dew raise in some positive way, then we can expect more free advertising down the track. And we won't be able to say we didn't ask for it.

Constantine-lucifer confronts gabriel (spoiler)

dannym3141 says...

>> ^gwiz665:
Fuck yeah, he is so cool.
About Pacino's Lucifer, I think that because he is featured more prominently in the movie (Devil's Advocate) he loses some of his power. In this and the Prophecy he is basically all-powerful - in both movies we've built up that Gabriel is pretty powerful, and Lucifer just "brushes them off". Pacino's lucifer is more of a manipulator, plans within plans within plans, kind of type. I like his monologues though.
I think I like Darth Sidius for the same reason - he's much like Lucifer, powerful, manipulating.

Yeah i agree there. I think the more you familiarise with a character the less of an enigma they are.

That's one of the selling points for pacino's role for me though. You're very familiar with him, he's talking to keanu like a father to a son. But he still repulses me a little at times, and i'm always slightly unsure of him. Like when they're at the party and he's getting noshed on under the table, and he looks at keanu and smiles, and i can't help but retract from something like that. And the monologues and rages that he goes into.. yeah love those bits.

But then again, like you said, the plots are a bit different - advocate has him as a manipulator, using our god given free will to trap us. But then, the bit after the suicide, when he wakes up and does a mental keanu "whoa". Pacino gets another go - vanity. And maybe he'll win that time. That's my favourite bit - you never win for good, you never beat him for good, you have to always beat him, every single time.

Hell now i'm just talking about advocate But i do love the way that keanu is presented with a choice - no guilt, no responsibility. God is all-powerful, and with the new child he would create with his sister, god could lose. And keanu could live forever in absolute bliss, literally forever, literally without responsibility or guilt, literally with the most intense bliss he could ever imagine. And he chooses not to take it - why? Because it's just wrong.

Rush Limbaugh - Jackass (Terrible Talk Post)

quantumushroom says...

I find it difficult to believe that in a world saturated with the bloated egos of rock stars, movie stars, souless celebutantes and reality-show goofballs, one tongue-in-cheek paragraph of playful hype is "the most disgusting piece of vanity (you've) ever read".

I'll tell you what no one else will, without knowing your background: as far as learning how the world really works, you've never had a chance.

You've been lied to at every turn about human nature, economics, religion and history by people who believe government is the all-knowing power, with a solution for every problem if only you, as a loyal drone, surrender your money and rights to a select few enlightened government leaders.

These folks have been in charge of your schooling for their propaganda from Grade K to kollij. They consider it their right to deprogram the influences of religion, morality or any teachings your family might have that contradict theirs. You were/are their clay to mold.

With few exceptions these same types run the mainstream media and all the easy multimedia based on this government = utopia philosophy: movies, tv, even music. They don't quite have as strong a grip on books or the net, but as more people are turned off to serious reading and onto distracting amusements on the web, those two are becoming less a threat.

They have assured you that by listening only to their message, you have heard all points of view and don't need to seek out anything else. They have assured you that you are indeed a freethinking rebel, fighting a valiant fight to tear down the evils of The System, so that one day there will be NO obstacles to the Vision of the Annointed.

The odds are, you're never going to wake up from their plans for you. They are offering you a comfortable protection from the inherent risks and hardships of life, as long as you don't question them or frown too long at how much they're taking out of your paychecks (or will be).

Rush Limbaugh started out as a nobody sportscaster and worked his way up. Yes, he comments on politics but has always made it clear he is first and foremost "an entertainer". Based on what you've indicated here and now, you're not qualified to judge Limbaugh, his views or what he does. (If you listened to at least one hour a day of his 3-hour program for six weeks...maybe).

If there's truly something about him you "hate" you should embrace it and put it to the test. Find some of Limbaugh's facts and compare them to others' facts.

If you've read this far, you're probably saying, "Well, who is this asshole to judge ME?" I'm not judging you and you shouldn't take this mini-rant personally. I don't want you to believe anything blindly.

Having already been a sincere liberal and even an anarchist, along the way I've learned whatever I've learned and have not always been happy or willing to go where the new knowledge took me, but I think the ideas outside of Their Vision have more merit, because while the answers aren't always happy-forever, they make sense, and will protect you in the long run from those who will take all your liberty in exchange for an impossible-to-guarantee security.

Good night and good luck, playa!

Atlas Shrugged (Blog Entry by Doc_M)

dystopianfuturetoday says...

The problem with Ayn is that her novels are nothing more than thin, redundant vessels for her own pseudo philosophical propaganda. They are all glorified romance novels, centered around brilliant, rich and successful people being held down by the ignorant and unwashed masses. If you've read one, you've read them all.

I remember loving The Fountainhead when I was in college and eagerly picking up Anthem and Atlas Shrugged.

Anthem is easily one of the worst sci-fi novels I've ever read. It's a shallow, ham-fisted, derivative mess, which brings nothing of value to the genre. It also fails as propaganda, because it doesn't employ any of the skillful storytelling elements of The Fountainhead.

Then I moved on to Atlas Shrugged, which is basically a formulaic retelling of The Fountainhead with different characters. I made it as far as the famously bad 'John Galt speech' in which Ayn drones on for 60-plus pages, reiterating her worldview without the gentle touch of any kind of narrative.

Ah, the lengths some will go to justify their own selfishness and vanity.
