72 Hours Away From A Coup In Which Trump Will Be Decapitated

FlowersInHisHair says...

These assholes talked constantly about removing Obama from office. Their paranoid, homophobic histrionics should be fringe thinking, but people believe them. Perhaps it's that Christianist, rightist compulsion to always portray themselves as the underdog even when "their guy" is in power.

The Magnificent Seven Official International Trailer 1(2016)

moonsammy says...

Same situation here. I liked Seven Samurai, and could see how the conversion to a western works well. It's a fairly simple story, classic underdog / good vs evil setup. This certainly isn't going to have the cultural impact of Kurosawa, but I'm guessing it'll be an entertaining flick.

Janus said:

Remake of a 1960 film by the same name, which was an adaptation of the classic Kurosawa film Seven Samurai. I haven't seen the 1960 film, though I have seen Seven Samurai, which lived up to its vaunted reputation.

This definitely looks entertaining at least, based on the trailer.

Call it what you will. To me, massive illegal immigration with the goal of territorial control is invasion...no matter why they invaded. Invaders always have a reason.
Hence my making the distinction between Arab and Jewish controlled Palestine. Officially the British were still ruling over Palestine, but in most practical ways, Palestine was already divided before the mass immigration started. There was essentially Jewish Palestine and Arab Palestine, and the normal conflicts between close neighbours with different religion were already significant before the illegal immigration. Of all the places for Jewish Europeans to flee to, the land already in the possession and control of welcoming Jewish Palestinians hardly stinks of invasion to me.

Sorry, I know I tried to refocus on what they should have done and immediately leapt off the rails myself.

You said:
should have fought the Nazis, not the mostly blameless (for the atrocities) Palestinians
A majority of them that made it into Britain and America did just that. In fact, so many fought against the Nazis that when the civil war in Palestine came to a head and WW2 veteran Jewish soldiers started showing up it's counted part of the Arab narrative as 'western' support and part of the unfair military advantage that made Israel the mighty power and the Arab league army the underdogs.

You said:
The U.S. was open...if they could get here.
No, nothing was open. As pictures of the camps spread, doors started opening but that was very much after the fact. Leading up to and during WW2 immigration numbers were very restricted to jewish people. There simply was absolutely no legal immigration option for thousands and thousands of Jewish Europeans.

You said:
neighbors and allies try to secure their borders that are being crossed by invaders
You misunderstand my statement on the Arab League member's intentions. They had NO intention of defending their neighbouring Arab Palestinian's land. Sure, publicly they declared a joint effort to liberate Palestine. Each member nation though was stating that as code for liberate a portion of Palestine by making it a part of themselves. Israel was able to take the best equipped and trained Jordanian army out of the battle without a single shot fired by agreeing with them to simply abandon the portion of Palestine that Jordan proceeded to make a part of itself. The other Arab states made similar bids militarily, refusing to co-ordinate their assaults because each wanted to declare the ground gained their own. As they each rushed their offensives and attacked individually Israel had the time to plant 100% of their forces in the path of each of them.

You asked:
Should I think you call Turkey an invader of Daesh, and you a supporter of Daesh?
In the sense that you are asking, it's a near yes. The original Syrian resistance is a group I really do support, and the Kurdish fighters have largely been on their same side and I support their efforts there as well. Daesh was much more interested in killing the 'legitimate' resistance than Assad and Putin's forces. Similarly, the Russians have made it a firm practice to exclusively attack the 'legitimate' resistance and doing their best to largely not bother attacking Daesh unless forced to. The main reason being that once Daesh is all that's left, the scorched earth fix becomes all the more easily justified, and the actual rebels pose a much more real and legitimate alternative to Assad's government than Daesh.

greg giraldo owns denis leary on tough crowd

poolcleaner says...

Isn't Leary's whole shtick that he's really just a lucky asshole?

He's in character. He typically gets humbled (owned) in his comedic acts; he's the every man's angry man that needs the humbling experiences to grow rather than be destoyed by hubris.

I've never seen him as the type who competes, rather he reacts with the inhibitions of an angry drunk tellIing it lIke it is. It's difficult for me to see the difference between him being Dennis Leary for real and him being Dennis Leary in his acts. You always get the feeling he is implicitly telling his jokes from the underdog's perspective. He was just wrong about a fact, except he's a comedian, so being owned while in character is the riposte and payoff for the act. Greg's stare down ONLY works because it's against Leary. Two man bit. Three man with Colin's visual gag. (It's like the Marx Bros.)

They both win at comedy, but Greg wins at facts.

Why the 'Firefly' Crew Were the Bad Guys

poolcleaner says...

Nothing new.

And the soldiers of the Confederacy weren't necessarily the bad guys. They were people loyal to their states. Robert E. Lee sided with the Confederacy because of his loyalty to his state. Loyalty is inspiring.

Losers of wars are underdogs. We root for the underdog. Usually. It's a unique position to observe the human spirit.

They are like Ronin, emotionally fraught PTSD survivors living a waking nightmare, with no satisfying role in society left to fill. What can they do?

They will fight.

Michael Bay's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Trailer

chingalera says...

Sir...lower than low and you can't tell the real from unreal-I am a musician and a friend to humanity and all you want from me is to see me burn-You are sadly mistaken in your assumptions and have dealt me a personal disservice,

I mean you no personal ill-will and have seen this before from other abusers of this site.

Cut and paste and declare the righteous of humanity unworthy based on nothing but your own delusional fantasies of right and wrong.

I have no history here of anything but calling shit when I see it and you sir, are THE epitome of the dregs of the worst of humankind.

You place yourself in a false position of a 'holier than thou' saint and read into my jovial and playful banter nothing but hatred and an unforgiving soul, some vile pervert....I assure you, I am so very far from some pedophile, no user of women, on the contrary-You have no idea the depths to which your own delusion has brought you and the entire site in declaring me in your self-righteousness some petty piece of human garbage as to accuse me of such a thing.

There are more than a few people here who can attest to my kindness and sincerity towards the women of this place, on YT when so many complete douchebags offer-up their vile words to young people trying to interpret music and are derided by those who hate themselves so much that they can only criticize, berate, and belittle the efforts of sincere people trying to share their love for music and humanity with the world only to have idiots and assholes insult their efforts.

My "request" to you was a joke directed at your persona here of enforcer, of resident cop hell-bent on finding any way possible to undermine anyone who comes here as a new user under the guise of following protocol-I have treated you as a friend and equal always and now....with evil intent and a sincere and violent hatred for me as a person you would have me thrown to wolves.

I had absolutely no indication that someone would or could, stoop as low on this site but as it is with people who don't even know who or what they themselves are, I am once again surprised and bewildered at the depths to which humanity can sink, when all is exhausted but ego and self-loathing.

If you would care to post this to the sift-talk arena and have tenured and long-time users here who know me, who trust me to be who and what I say I am I would be honored to show you and the entire site, even if it mean a permanent ban from this site of myself, just how completely wrong you are in your knee-jerk assumptions and delusional accusations.

I can have at least 3 adult, female users of this site who I and the community trust to be straight-up moral and ethical and righteous attest to my honesty and to a friendship that endures on and off this site.

I have no reservations about anything I have said or done here to foster love and community and it is YOUR delusional self-righteous anger and self-hate that has brought you to your retarded and vile accusation and assumption.

I agree with you one one thing, that this particular issue need not be a private matter but one that the entire site's users need see.

SO here we are once again, letting the community of users here let a few delusionals decide the fate of a sincere human being.

SO be it, I should have known better than to walk bearing my heart and soul into a small den of feral creatures and expect them to be able to see beauty and a sincere love for all of humanity.

Your accusations again, are unfounded and completely left of field, and you are dead-wrong in assuming that I am some perverted, hind-brained animal that would take advantage of a complete stranger.

That poor girl who sang that Beatle's tune and was banned had a lovely voice and whoever posted her video here I am sure, had no intention of doing anything but promoting her confidence and and sincere love for the music she was trying to share with the world.

I was going to go to her you tube page and apologize on behalf of myself and the site for her offering having been dashed-to-bits on the rocks of petty rules and a declaration of her unworthiness through some crap system of votes and regulations.

I feel very, very sorry and pity the type of person who can't discern the truth from a lie or see someone for what they are in their essence.

All the power-points I garner from maintaining the site's embeds, have you noticed??
I give them away to the underdogs, to the talented sifters who find beauty and joy in what they offer to the community. My usual criteria is to promote ignored offerings or to promote when I read a description in an embed of how much they personally enjoyed a video or that it touched them in an emotional way lending to joy or happiness. I resurrect dead videos in order to immediately give points and another chance to people with a view to raiding their spirits and status on this site.

I tend to promote music quite a bot and to DOWN-VOTE embeds people place here in order to insult another's ideologies or philosophies OR, when i see an inordinate amount of embed form a user that showcase human-tragedy for the sake of entertainment .

I care about life and truth my friend, not fantasy, death, pain, or lies with a view to self-promotion.

You are dead wrong in your assessment of my character, and I seek to prove you so before this entire community or be run off this site for the very last time.

I am keeping a copy of this response to my joking message directed again, at your joy in watching users get banned of self-linking which I posted to you with a view to pointing-out a character flaw, so that you won't twist my words and use them to satisfy your personal mission to see me gone form here.

Remembering Some Of the Most Notorious Videosift Shills (History Talk Post)

chingalera says...

copious amounts of booze-Yes, and less and less with aview to healing balm rather than backhand or palm-I do become ornery with predictable, lop-sided scripts:
Always detest the 'ganging-up' on the devout be they Christian or other-Guilty of the same-
Always protect the wiles of the underdogs, enjoy the company of others so sensitive
Have tried to maintain a finger pointed at myself when accusing or implying that others are guilty of same-such, it's called a mirror that reflects the worst in oneself for all to see in themselves.

I'm wrong most of the time but my instincts are keen and I can smell bullshit a mile off before it fucks me from now on. Sorry if I'm hard to manage, the stalwarts should have figured me for an ok guy by now.

Bullied Kid's Dream Comes True

artician says...

@ChaosEngine - I understand where your heart is at, but censorship is overrated. I'm sure the kid hears 10x the amount of language online than we ever did in the pre-VoIP gaming days, and I'm positive that the social negativity that one can experience in those settings is far more damaging than any words they might hear.

@shang - Don't have the energy to verify it, but good to know the other perspective. If that is true I'm sure it could also go either way. I.e. "I used to be an asshole, but I know what it's like to get bullied so now I stand up for the underdog".

Either way, nice that some folks would pull together to make the kids day. Wish people would mobilize like this for world-issues, but you've got to make the differences on the scale you're able to affect, I suppose.

Easier as a Latino? Actually...

NetRunner says...

The thinking behind the comment probably comes from political consultants telling him that he needs X amount of support from latios to carry places like Nevada and Colorado, and he's been at X minus 20 all year long. In true Republican style, the solution in his mind is not to tailor his policies or messaging to appear to latinos, it's to wish he just had darker skin and could ride on a wave of support based on identity alone.

The thinking behind the outrage is that this is a constant refrain from the conservative side in general -- that minorities are given huge advantages that whites aren't, and that ultimately the demographic group that receives the most adverse discrimination is actually rich white men.

In no case do I see this as some sort of unfair "overreaction" to what Romney said. Romney was pretty dismissive of the idea that being latino carries any sort of inborn disadvantages in a society dominated by whites, and I'll bet that sends latinos through the roof, because they know just how much discrimination faces latinos in their everyday lives, and they know Romney, who's lived a life of priviledge, hasn't a fucking clue what being on the receiving end of discrimination feels like.

>> ^renatojj:

Not a Romney supporter, but I think he meant people like underdogs, so being latino would give him the underdog advantage? It'd probably outweigh the political downsides of being latino, as she pointed out.

But yeah, deciding our votes by blowing words said jokingly way out of proportion and overreacting emotionally to completely non-political statements is the way to go.
