How much load can be exerted on a mass that is 'locked' in place like that?
i.e. Could this be a way to make super sweet hover bikes and cars a reality??

For the demonstration, not much imo. The guy had no difficulty adjust the 'locked' item with his hand, which can't be exerting a terrible amount of force.

Scaling up in size is another matter (and totally outside my area of simple deductive logic ; ), I would imagine as your super conductor blocks get bigger you could indeed support much higher weights.

It's interesting though, I wonder how a train, for example, would go around corners? Would the track need to be curved, as the superconductor is locked in a certain aspect to the track ie. like a toboggan? At the serious speeds an air friction only train could travel at, not tilting in to relative shallow corners might cause some serious in cabin 'passenger migration' issues if the train didn't lean in to the corner. *grin*

But yeah, that is some cool (no bad pun intended) shit right there.

I remember tobogganing down a hill and hitting a tree stump while riding in a crouching position. Damned near snapped my legs. Best fun ever.

Childhood scars, Proof that parents of the past truly believed in Darwin.
One broken left arm, nose, 7 fingers, scar under left eye from dog. Scar across bridge of nose to under right eye from glass. Mass amount of various other things. I was on a first name bases with all the Docs and Nurses at the ER. Citys parks department tried to destroy where we were and got chased out and their equipment destroyed. We were in an area where not only did people not go but was a major effort to get there. After their first attempt police were called. We showed them were we where and what was going on. They thought it was bad ass also then told us how to keep out the parks department and not get caught or in trouble.

See Cop... grab brake... crash hard.

calvados says...

I did something similar in motorcycle school. Wasn't going nearly as fast or cornering nearly as hard, and I thought I'd just give it a little squeeze, then BAM I was tobogganing on the asphalt all by myself for 10 feet. Apparently my (helmeted) head hit the pavement -- I didn't feel it -- I'd only had time to think "oh" as things went slanty and then I was down. Bike did pin my right foot against the tarmac for an instant as it hit and bounced, and I was limping for a few weeks.

Good object lesson though. No front brake while in a banking curve. (Some rear brake should be OK. Otherwise you gotsta stop the bank, straighten up, grab the front one before you exit your lane.)
