I feel like Natalie Tran is a good counterexample for that "there aren't actually any funny women" argument. Tina Fey, as well.

As much as I really want to post "I was criticising Star Trek trailers before it was cool" and leave it at that, I have to say that post kinda pissed me off.

It's got to the point where as soon as anyone has a legitimate criticism of anything they get labelled a "hipster". Well, fuck that. I'm 35, and I live in New Zealand. I'm not even sure what the fuck a hipster is other than that it's weird and confusing to me. </abe Simpson>

First things first, SNL actually isn't that funny. It has moments of hilarity (Tina Fey as Sarah Palin for example) but I general it's far closer to Chris Farley than Bill Murray. Maybe it was hilarious in the 70s but I've never seen those episodes. I do know that for the last 20 years, it has been consistently "almost funny".

More importantly, you're not the only one who likes Star Trek, and even if you're the trekkiest trek fan who ever quoted Kahn, that doesn't mean the rest of us aren't entitled to criticise it. Thing is, I'm a fan. I want to see this. And I want it to be good, same way as I REALLY wanted Prometheus to be brilliant. And it just ....wasn't.

So when I complain about this, I'm not some snide douchebag who's just dying for it to fail so I can jump on the Internet and let everyone bask in the glow of how right I am. I'm complaining about it because I'm genuinely worried it won't be good. I'm the one who went to the midnight premiere of Revenge of the Sith, because I still had a faint hope that Lucas would pull something awesome out of the bag.

Hitchens will always be a hero of mine, however, I find I disagree with him on many things. I really dig Amy Schumer. Although she normally performs much bluer than she can on Kimmel here, I think she's hilarious no matter what. For me, it's women like Schuler, Sarah Silverman, Kristen Wiig, Tina Fey, Melissa McCarthy, Ellen Degeneres, Carol Burnett, Lucille Ball (to name just a few), that expose Hitchen's treatise as a puckish exercise in editorial, rather than serious condemnation of a humorless gender.

Maybe I just don't know what's funny.

I don't watch TV. I'll take on the occasional Conan clip when it's uploaded, because I find him amusing and I used to watch him when I was a kid. I will watch episodes of Craig Ferguson on youtube. I practically never see Leno, no that it has anything to do with his reputation in post-conan-latenight years.
But Jimmy Fallon.... Where did this guy come from and when did he get on the air? I know I've seen clips of his show for at least the last couple years, but other than the few I've seen online I don't know anything about him. The more important thing is, to me, that there's something about this guy that I can not stand.
I have this sense of hate toward this guy I know nothing about, and don't know what causes it. I don't even like Hate! I hate Hate! Still, what's the deal?

I don't feel the need to defend him, at ALL. I just thought in this case he was making a joke referencing last week's 30 Rock. But he's still terrible.

Any healthy group needs negative actors. If everyone felt the same way here, we'd end up banning people for having too much blue in their avatars, or maybe if the fact they liked Lady Gaga ever came out.

If you can't dismiss what he says without trying to censor what he says, that's your problem, not his.

I also think he was being sarcastic. A little bit of trolling never hurt anyone.

Even the best-built cars must undergo crash tests. Your sincerity to the cause of political correctness must be crash-tested the same way.

In case anyone is losing sleep, I find plenty of women funny. Maria Bamford, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Kristen Wiig are the tops.
