Likes Obama/Hates Obama

I think the video is a criticism of that mentality. Look how fast we can throw celebrity testimonials at you, just the like-or-hate is all we seem to want, and they matter about as much as a picture of a dog in a thong. So, well upvoted!>> ^VoodooV:
Even though I upvoted this video. I do have to criticize it a bit...well maybe not the video, but simply the mentality of why we even care what celebrities think.
Republicans get worked up when celebrities seem to flock to Obama, but as this video shows, there are plenty of celebrities who lean right. It's a false argument.
Sure there are plenty of celebrities who take issues seriously and get involved, but generally speaking, I DON'T CARE WHAT CELEBRITIES THINK. Their problems are not my problems. They are somewhat removed from the average person's struggle.
They are entertainers, they aren't any better than you and in certain cases, worse.

Astute observation ... that was my take on it too. [plus the catchy, mind numbing hook ... I was hip-mo-tized] =o)

Part of the problem is that tipped minimum wage has been frozen (thanks to Herman Cain for a large part) at $2.13 since 1991. Even when they saw fit to raise the federal minimum to $7.25 in 2009, they didn't raise the tipped minimum. Since to keep up with inflation, minimum should be closer to $10.35, that puts tipped minimum far behind... and minimum is far below living wages... they should couple it back up with minimum and perhaps just drop that provision all together, then the servers could bust ass to make more on tips.

Some of the terms she used are used and understood by many Americans. Seems she was hanging out with a bunch of sheltered people. Who doesn't know flip flops=thongs or trunk=boot? The ATM thing is odd as I think the drive-through ATM is also a safety thing over having to walk out to an ATM on the side of the bank, plus the bank usually has a drive through anyhow, so it saves them money from having to build a shelter for the ATM and all that.

I was expecting this to be more about cultural differences (like the tipping thing) than dialect differences. Dialect differences are interesting too, but it's not that we don't get that the "boot" is the trunk and "thongs" are flip flops, it's that we don't call them by these names so some confusion is to be expected.

I got one more thing she can add to her list of shit she doesn't get, too: apostrophes. (Or maybe I should say "apostrophe's")

We called them "thongs" growing up near Santa Cruz, CA. I think we started calling them "slappers" or "flip-flops" a few years before that Sisqo song came out, but the Thong Song was most definitely the final nail in the coffin.

Tenacious D - Low Hangin' Fruit

eric3579 says...

Well me and Kage are hungry
We're hungry for some fruit
We wander through the garden
It would be a hoot

To eat some low hanging fruit
We're on a freaky pursuit
Don't want no high class model in designer baby bathing suit
We want the low hanging fruit

Me and Kage are horny
Looking for a snack
Looking for a plump one
I want my baby back

We want some low hanging fruit
She wears a bee keeper suit
She got the sweet stanky fruit
We need the low hanging fruit

She got the flip flops on with hot red potatoes
And a butt floss thong with fried green tomatoes
And she loves the song we sing for the ladies c'mon! Oh my God!

[JB scat section}

Low hanging fruit
She wears a pink parachute
She got the fly tattoo and the honky tonkin' daisy dukes
We love the low hanging fruit

Because the high class fruit is not very funky
But the low class fruit is sweet chunky monkey
When you smoke that bood it smell like a skunky c'mon!

C'mon! C'mon! C'mon!

Caged Animals- All the Beautiful Things In The World

@JiggaJonson

Agreed/ Which is largely the deciding factor in my thong avatars. However, the theme for this song was Beautiful things (fantastically shaped ass') and beautiful music. The objectification seems to have manifested itself subconsciously in your own mind. Possibly other minds as well, but non so audacious.

The Colbert Report - Don McLeroy on Texas Textbooks

kceaton1 says...

The stupid is mindblowing.

As for the little documentary, looks promising to get a slightly larger picture of the inside "mechanics" in the machine, which I think boils down to: ...sketches of plans made in the dirt out back of their meeting building, with a dead tree branch with a sharp point while wearing their "Vestments of the Lord": Cowboy boots and thongs. They will decide what wisdom to impart upon the next generation of children.

Seriously, the guy in the documentary trailer, the board member (and I believe the head or chairman) is ridiculously-stereotypical-Christian-"dumb" that it's amazing. It's like he read a series of books that taught him how to become this type of person, he is so stereotypical that he in fact may be the birthplace for that word! When all you are concerned about is the "other" you are in fact a bigot--in so much you are not only bigoted as you must only see things as 1 or 0, us or them, left or right, white or black, etc... I can almost guarantee that you are homophobic and hate gays or highly disagree with them and also racist. It's the mindset. I'd link the studies, but instead get a modern psychology book looking at that issue specifically--they'll say the same thing. It's a type of mindset, much like being sad or happy.

Crazy. This world is crazy.

Well, maybe just the American Christian scene is. So much hate, vitriol, bigotry, misogyny, sexism, fear, hypocrisy, lying, ignorance, group-delusions, "conservative", pro-"business", greedy, pro-"rich", pro-military, and this amounts to what we call mass-insanity!

I'm nauseous...
