Nico Hulkenberg On Driving In F1 And Le Mans

Reefie says...

Ever since the Hulk opted to do both F1 and Le Mans this season I've been meaning to take a closer look at Le Mans and see what it's all about. I keep hearing Alan McNish compare current generation F1 cars with Le Mans cars and it's made me curious...

The secret of snapping spaghetti

Retroboy says...

TOP TEN REASONS

1) Small pot

2) Small kids that slurp longer pieces

3) Awesome snappy noise and stuff'

4) Me strong like Hulk prove by smashing spaghettis smash smash

5) Visualizing your mean annoying boss's neck while twisting crick crack shatter

6) Teaching child division and/or fractions

7) Having less sophisticated in-law over who would otherwise maul linguini with multiple passes of a knife before eating

8 ) Telling parable of "united we stand divided we fall" to less patriotic younger generation representatives, and needed a prop.

9) Secretly mad at spouse and prepping mysterious "I don't know how all those spaghettini shards on the floor happened but it's your time to sweep here's the broom" petty vengeance

10) Destroying stuff is fun.

Well, yes. Now that I understand (everything but the Florida locations), it does sound like we agree across the board.
Oh! I get it now...you meant West coast OF FLORIDA. (To be honest, I was confusing Ft Lauderdale with Tampa...Tampa is the city my relatives live 'near'....and it IS more 'conservative', is it not? You can probably guess I don't spend much time over/down there).
Yes, I DO know what it's like to walk far in August/Florida. I grew up in Houston, just as humid, even hotter! I used to love to ride my bike in the 105 deg summers and get crazed looks from everyone peering out of their air conditioned cars and shops. I can't take that heat anymore now that I'm old and broken, and spoiled by N California.
And I've also had to park far from events...I now drive a rotten 44 year old Bronco. It's mechanically near perfect, but the body is a rusted hulk...and I don't care a bit! It actually helps me in traffic, no one tailgates me, and they move when I come from behind. ;-)
Oooohhhh. Pill heads can suck ass. Sorry to hear it.

ha ha..thanks man.
i lived closer to the coast.
off oakland and andrews.worked at yesterdays on the intracoastal and marks in los olas,i also dj'd (and bounced) at the crazy horse off A1A.met motley crue there a couple of times.

the concentrated wealth was a tad further north from where i lived, boca and west palm.

you may have been a bit west in places like davie...fairly rural and yes..conservative..but money talks and davie does not have that kind of clout.
i saw the same practices when i lived on miami beach.though the criminalizing is a new thing, before they just shuttled the homeless and undesirables away.

icky homeless people are bad for tourism

i think we pretty much agree across the board.when a hard line conservative talks about "pulling yourself up by your boot straps" we know that is bullshit speak for 'fuck you poor person,i got mine" but i have a problem with a supposed "liberal" who talks the language of compassion and humanity but dont actually practice it in a hands on way.

the hardliner shows disdain for the poor, and while repugnant,at least it is honest.
but when a liberal, who wrings their hands over the plight of the homeless, yet pushes through ordinances that criminalize the very thing they are saying that is heart-wrenching for them..i find hypocritical.

i remember i was an event co-ordinator for the hilton fountain blue and did a bee-gees (yes..you read that right) birthday party on their west palm home.i dorve a beat up toyota tercel( i have always lived simply, like a hippy) and i was asked to park it 4 blocks away at a u-store it facility.

no valet for me!

do you know what its like to walk 4 blocks in august?in florida? in 300% humidity?
i was a wet rag by the time i got to their mansion.
i literally had to sneak a shower while my clothes were drying!

but..i did get 10% of everything,and that party cost a cool 250.000.

soooooooooo

WORTH IT!

i live just north of tampa now.new port richey.the number ONE place for painkiller/xanax deaths in the country!

Avengers 2: Age of Ultron - Official Teaser Trailer

RFlagg says...

Seriously! I mean we got Hulkbuster armor! The way everyone is in the room with Banner but looking away and he looks like he just did something bad... more and more hints of a possible Planet Hulk movie! Andy Serkis, in an unknown roll... (I've heard guesses as to him being Ulysses Klaw, but I don't know who that is at all but based on the pics from the comics and his back story it sounds likely). Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch... Thor grabbing Tony Stark, and Tony's statements about the path he himself started (creating Ultron rather than Hany Pym) which might hint at Civil War... so much geek going on in this trailer.

Also, Jame's Spader's voice acting was perfect.... The use of "I Got No Strings"... I'm pumped for a midnight showing myself.

reactions to the mountain viper fight GoT - spoilers

Chairman_woo says...

This scene is pretty close to how it goes down in the book, save a little variation in how the final blow is administered.

I also completely disagree, I think the director completely nailed it. It plays up to a lifetime of predictable cliché's only to turn them right around and give us a dose of cold hard reality.

Hero's frequently loose, villains frequently win, overconfidence is a weakness and having a just cause is no guarantee of victory.

Oberyn wins the fight but allows his need for vengeance to cloud his judgement. He starts calm and works himself into more and more of a frenzy over a neurosis he has carried for many years. IMHO this was portrayed pretty authentically, he starts calm (as he has learned to be) but as the fight progresses he allows the guard to drop and the raging emotions to manifest properly.

Now he can afford to let these bottled up feeling out properly, the mountain is right there and soon he will kill him! Throw in some adrenaline and the anticipation of that moment overwhelms the self control that earned him the title red viper.

I also don't see how you can describe the mountain as a "super ninja" here. Everything he does at the end is an exercise in brute strength, let's not forget he's wearing mailed fists, the blow to the mouth need not be especially strong or quick to do the damage. All he does after that is roll on top of him with the last bit of strength and rage he has (spurred on by his "beetle crushing" fuck everything mindset). Subsequently crushing the skull has more to do with his upper body weight as his hands alone.

A massive strong man yanks someone's legs out from under them, punches them in the mouth and then climbs on top (while they are stunned) to finish the job.

Being run through doesn't necessarily stop one's muscles from working until the blood loss kicks in. Doubly so with the adrenaline of a life or death fight (and the anaesthetic effect massive trauma has on the nervous system). There are countless stories of soldiers and criminals being mortally wounded by multiple shots to the chest who continued attacking till the blood loss overcame them. Gregor Clegane is exactly the sort of psycho who might exhibit such bloody minded behaviour.

I might also remind you that the Mountain has one more than one occasion been described as "swifter than might be expected for a man of such stature" i.e. not a lumbering hulk. He gets several blows in on Oberyn during the fight. Many of the swings are extremely heavy but they are calculated moves from an expert fighter who is more than capable of moving quickly when needed.

Oberyn is quicker, but the Mountain is not exactly slow (that's one of the reasons why the Mountain is/was formerly undefeated, he's big but can still move relatively quickly for his size).

harlequinn said:

That's fair enough. I haven't read the books but the tv version butchered this scene in so many ways.

Up front note: nobody should be surprised Oberyn died - it's GOT - it's to be expected.

That said, I wish the director wouldnt have.... Oberyn (an experienced fighter) be cool as ice before the fight just to turn into a emotional wreck a few seconds into the fight.

Don't show us the Mountain as a lumbering hulk who then, after being fully run through with a spear twice and having a calf slashed, turn into a super ninja while Oberyn makes a beginners mistake and turns into a sloth.

The director going comic book bad guys on us sucked.

My reply was more of a general comment. But evey death serves a purpose in the book. It starts off something later on and steam rolls. If ned didnt die, there wouldnt of been this whole war in the first place. If Robb didnt die, he would have made his way south and it would be a different book all together.

This is a very dark epic for sure. But it has its awesome moments.

Edgar Wright - How to Do Visual Comedy

Xaielao says...

Old School is perhaps the best american comedy in a decade. That said, I absolutely agree. Comedy here is very one-dimensional. It's jokes, nothing else. Usually very base ones that everyone will get with a spattering of 'gut-laughs'. I agree one of the biggest reasons as Drachan commented on is just how regimented and formulaic our entertainment is in this country.

This also exemplifies why I am so very torn with Edgar Wright leaving Ant Man and potentially Marvel. He's one of the best directors around and so very inventive. I adored World's End, though my favorite of the 'trilogy' will always be Hot Fuzz.

On the flip side, as a fan of the comic Scott Pilgrim was a terrible movie. He clearly took a lot of creative license with the beloved graphic novel while at the same time totally putting off the audience while at the same time doing nothing to bring in people who have never heard of it previously, which is why it bombed so very hard.

So he left Ant Man, easily one of my top 5 favorite Marvel characters, because of creative differences. I suspect he wanted to do something very different then the established material and Marvel was against that because they want to link him to their other movies (DUH!). So while I think the movie could potentially have been fantastic under his direction, it could just as easily have been marvels biggest bomb since Hulk.

Gotham - Extended Trailer

ChaosEngine says...

Please tell me this isn't "Batman Kids" or something.

Listen up, comic book peoples. Drop the goddamn everything is all connected at the origin plot device.

Man of Steel did it and did it badly; Kal-El isn't just superman, he's Krypton Jesus.

The Amazing Spiderman did it and completely fucking missed the point of Spiderman; Peter Parker becomes Spiderman because of genetic destiny instead of, ya know, accepting that responsibility comes with power(which is only his fucking motto).

Even Hulk did it.

And now we see that Bruce Wayne interacts with Catwoman, and the Riddler etc as a child? sigh...

On the other hand... yay Major Rawls is back!

So I'm with @RFlagg on this one. Not expecting much, but willing to be pleasantly surprised.

Michael Bay's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Trailer

Orz says...

I kept thinking, wasn't April O'Neil a busty redhead? (and thanks to the internet and not my memory, I was right). That has to be plastic surgery since Megan Fox had almost nothing up top in 'Jennifer's Body'. Isn't this the 3rd time a TMNT movie has been made? I guess I can categorize this inevitable piece of crap with the other disappointments I've seen: 2 horrible Hulk movies and 3 poor Punisher movies. I like to beat a dead horse as much as the next guy but.....

lucky760 said:

I guess Michael Bay has forgiven Megan Fox. I didn't know she was going to be in this, but at first blush I don't like her as April O'Neil.

(And for the record, I don't like her in general, aesthetically speaking.)
