How Corporations Manufacture Consent: Teabagger Edition

quantumushroom says...

The taxocrap cowards won't even reveal what's in the obamascare bill, which will be an expensive disaster no matter what form escapes. Liberal fail always has to be snuck in under the radar, why do you think that is?

Ten months of this bullsh;t, 11% unemployment, more and more taxes proposed, Iran on the fast track to nukes, and the best this Red House can do is attack Fox and talk radio, the ONLY voices challenging his royal highness's incompetence and hypocrisy.

Doesn't take a corporation's message to know Obama is a screw-up the people still know almost nothing about, including the IDIOTS who voted for him. Yeah. YOU.

Maddow: The Truth About the Lies About Acorn

dbarry3 says...

>> ^Stormsinger:
The biggest single difference between Maddow and Limbaugh is that Maddow's reports are generally well-researched and based on facts, while Limbaugh doesn't appear to even know the meaning of those words.
That said, if Maddow has a similar ability to "stir up" the liberals, I have to wonder if that says more about the difference between liberal and conservative than it does about her and Limbaugh.

I don't really understand what you are talking about when you mention the differences between liberals and conservatives as a whole. I have observed some similarities among those on both the right and the left that regularly support the respective cable news and talk radio shows: They all thrive on gaining food for the fodder in their endless attempt to emotionally respond to the headline of the day while thinking they know the whole story, but even more they think they know what is best because their talking head (Rachel, Keith, Bill O, Rush) have told them what to think.

Differences in political affiliation? Yes.
Differences in how those who religiously watch these agenda driven so called attempt at a news programs respond? No.

And there's no substantial difference between the talking heads, fox or msnbc, Rachel or Rush.

Ashton Kutcher Gives Advice to Republicans

Throbbin says...

>> ^quantumushroom:
Liberals hate monopolies, except for the one they had with lamestream media and the once-upon-a-time Big 3 networks, where a single traitor like Walter Commiekite could still sabotage a war.
The Lewinsky scandal was exposed by the intertubes as was Obama's socialist medi-scheme.
Even while still controlling Hollywood and government schools via teachers' unions, talk radio and intertubes have really "leveled the playing field" in terms of content. Welcome to competition, libs!

Senator Specter's Town Hall Crowd Gets Rough And Rowdy

Nithern says...

Isnt the politics of fear and misinformation the tools of the Republican Party these days? If the racism and fear were removed from the GOP's message, fully 90% of their talking points on the Health Care issue (or any other issue for that matter), would be nulled out. This person who stood up, displayed both ignorance of reality, and disably to follow instructions. Rather then take responsibility (another trait missing from modern day Republicans) and be patient until his turn to speak (another thing missing...be patient).

So the question? The man did not even mention his question. He states he came well prepared, and 'informed' to have a question on Health Care. He rants for a minute in Mr. Spectre's face, by bring in the fear of being afraid, fear of the unknown, and religion. And after all this, they guy walks away without asking his question.

This is the problem (one of many, I can assure you), of the typical low level member of the Republican party. Alot of anger, alot of fear, alot of hate, and no ability to be adult enough to express it, nor explain it rationally. Doesn't help to have conservative talk radio, and idiots like Beck, Hannity, and O'Reilly, egg these poor bastards on. Nor to have Mrs Palin, Steele, or Mr. Paul spreading simply lies and half truths (Mr. Paul is intelligent enough to know this, while Mr. Steele and Mrs Palin have shown they are not as educated or intelligent on the matter). This raw anger, rage, and fear, is simply growing in this country. And when it explodes, there will be alot of dead Americans on the deck. And all these republican leaders will try to blend back in to the woodwork, to avoid having to be held accountable for their actions.

Liberal Viewer: Bill O'Reilly Slam on Amsterdam Factless?

entr0py says...

>> ^rougy:
Can the "greatest country in the world" really exist when lies such as these are allowed to air, essentially unchallenged, seven days a week?
This is very common and it happens daily:
Rightwing mouthpiece makes spurious claim, presenting lies as facts.
Facts are proven to be either false or slanted, so rightwing mouthpiece discards facts and says they don't matter anyway.

Yeah, I think what bothers me most is that slander like this often takes place on the airwaves (in the case of talk radio). Not only is slander theoretically illegal, the airwaves are supposed to be a public trust. But it seems our scrutiny of them ends at ensuring they don't broadcast any naughty words or naughty bits.

Of course the opposite end is scary as well, you don't want a state run media, or any undue restrictions on free speech. But lies, defamation, and rumor mongering are such powerful political tools, you can be sure that people will use them when there's no consequence for doing so.

Tampa Town Hall: Free Speech, or Mob Censorship?

Nithern says...

Yes, conservatives at their best. And this subject will only get worst as time progresses. Conservatives are just angry about everything (pick the subject). 20-30 years ago, they used to be the top dogs, calling the shots in the USA. Over time, their power base eroded, until, the idiot, George W. Bush was in office, and turned off liberals, Democrates, Moderates, and everyone who isn't A) white B) old and C) filthy rich.

There is no common ground with people, in this state of emotion. They're frontal lobes (the part of the brain that handles thought and reason) are shut down. 'Blind Rage' is the best way to explain this. They do not want to talk, discuss, or even argue a better approach to a huge problem. This video is Chaos vs Order, plain and simple. And this sort of destructive path is only going to grow more intensive. Some day soon, it will explode, and many will be either severely injured or killed. After its over, and people picking up the peices, all the conservatives, Republicans, and talk radio/Fox News types will disavow having anything to do with the rage. None of these people will claim being responsible (which *IS* a Republican thing to do).

I think the President, should take time out of his very busy schedule (and he has the toughest schedule, known to Mankind), and explain, every part of the Health Care Reform. The Goverment, will have to enlist people, to help dumb down the English, so Conservatives and Republicans, can keep up with the conversasion.

Health Care Reform WILL PASS. The Democratics control the Executive, Legistative branchs of goverment. Included, they could have a filibuster proof issue.

FOX's Glenn Beck Goes "NUTS" On Caller To Radio Show

Tomfoolery says...

Jiggajonson,
Comparing any radio show to Glenn Beck's is setting a pretty low bar so no, there are no radio shows on NPR with hosts that screech at their callers like a little school girl the way beck did. However, the fact that Beck is "conservative" doesn't taint the entire conservative radio pool any more than the fact that Rosie O'Donnel is a liberal taints the entire liberal celebrity pool. Dennis Miller, for example, is a measured, intelligent, and reasonable voice in the conservative talk radio world. Glenn Beck is embarrassing and it boggles my mind that he's as popular as he is.

FOX's Glenn Beck Goes "NUTS" On Caller To Radio Show

Nithern says...

If you have to raise your voice over another in a debate....you lost the arguement, and being immature on top of that. When you insult the other person (mocking is insulting), you lost the arguement.

Mr. Beck wants to attack Mass Health (the health care model the Democrats are looking at for a national model) of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

Mr. Obama spent $787 Billion on the Stimulus pack. Mr. Bush spent $3 Trillion (that's $3,000,000,000,000) on the Iraq war. Mr. Obama's funds go to help Americans directly. Mr. Bush, about 1/3 of it went to other countries.

Trust me, folks in the other 49 states....take the Mass Health care model, you will find a better system of health.

Mr. Beck, like the majority of talk-radio that has a sharply conservative/republican bent, have not used logical and sound reasoning since the Reagan Administration. Their ideas seem to fall far short of being productive to the USA, and yet, they feel the rest of us, should take them seriously. And yes, they behave, alot like how Mr. Beck did to Cathy.

Bill Moyers On The Washington Post's Pay-to-play Scandal

entr0py says...

>> ^StukaFox:
You gotta start worrying about the state of things when Bill Moyers sounds like Keith Olbermann.

He does have a lot of similar sentiments, but without coming off as a shouting talk radio douche bag. I'd be happy to see more Moyers and less Oblermann in the top 15.

PBS: Anti-Abortion Attacks as Domestic Terrorism

quantumushroom says...

This piece is propaganda for sure, which wouldn't be so irritating except it's partially taxpayer-funded. How odd that the same libs who bent over backwards to disprove any link between radical Muslims and violence now want to malign an entire political movement from the actions of a lone nutjob.

As a right-wingnut, my complaint is not that the term 'right wing' is used by lefties, but that never never never are the terms "left-wing" and "liberal" heard anywhere but on talk radio. At least rougy and other VS'ers are bold enough to stand up for what they believe and use left-words without hiding associations like Barack n' Company do.

In a freer world, it would be true that people own all the rights to their own bodies, but here and now it ain't so.

In most places, people can't sell use of their bodies as sexual toys or their other organs for money. Prescription drugs obviously require approval for use by State-regulated doctors (and misused 'scripped drugs kill more than all illegal drugs combined).

The State wants total control over everything while taking no responsibility for anything. Darn them to heck!

Shepard Smith Calls Out "Frightening" FOX E-mailers

Winstonfield_Pennypacker says...

Perfect argument for the closing of all fox news broadcast stations nationwide.

Aaaaand a pretty good reason to shut down a few other places as well. Just a few examples... PBS, NBC, CBS, ABC, MSNBC, VideoSift comments, the Internet in general, NY Times, ChicagoST, talk radio, and personal communications.

Grow up. "News" (used loosely) channels on all sides have comments from viewers that are filled with the most sickening, outlandish tripe. This is not some sort of FOX exclusive. Is it distasteful? Sure. Cause to 'close' free speech? Hardly.

But I guess neolibs only care about such things when the issues don't favor them... Typical. Pettty and typical
