"The Libyan War was planned long ago"

bcglorf says...

America is a superpower. Libya was one of Russia's major clients, and had launched terrorist attacks against American's. It had recently admitted to a covert nuclear weapons program. America would have to be the most naively inept and incompetent power in all of history to not have had multiple war plans and what if scenarios drafted up for Libya. I'd be utterly shocked if America doesn't have a war plan drafted up for invading Canada too, and you can be certain that securing Canadian oil fields figures highly in those plans.

This journalist and giving them coverage like this though is despicable!

Is seeing America advance some of it's own interests really so horrifyingly unpalatable that it must be vilified even when it includes stopping a genocide?

Gaddafi was undeniably in the last push to start the genocide he promised to commit when the UN finally voted for military action, after even the Arab League had begun requesting exactly that. Does the American conspiracy really run so deep that even the Arab League is in their pocket?

The intervention in Libya stopped a genocide. If you can't point out something far worse that it is causing, then you'd better not make bold claims about how much better things would be if the genocide had been allowed to play out. You sure as anything better not cry for having done nothing by invoking the lives of the Libyan people that would surely be dead already if that had been done.

Wonder Woman's Super Powers On-Disply For You

kronosposeidon says...

You know, I think you people are posting Wonder Woman stuff these days just to provoke me.

Let's get this straight: The '70s TV show was *terrible. The only reason it lasted as long as it did was because of this:

Now let's discuss what Wonder Woman's superpowers really are (mostly copy/pasted from Wikipedia)

1. Strength - She has lifted the entire island of Themiscyra out of the water, and prevented chunks of the moon from hitting Earth
2. Speed - She has moved as fast as half the speed of light
3. Stamina - She NEVER tires out
4. Flight - She can fly completely unassisted, no jet required (and look damn good while doing it)
5. She is highly resistant to injury - She has even shaken off gun fire. She also heals quickly.
6. She is a master of both armed and unarmed combat. NO ONE is her rival in this department. Even when sparring with other superheroes (while lowering her strength and speed to match theirs, just to be fair), she still kicks all their asses. Even Batman's. She is also a natural leader in combat, and a brilliant tactician and strategist.
7. She's a genius. She's a master of numerous languages, sciences, and philosophies.

She has other powers too, but those are the main ones. Her golden lasso and bracelets are also useful, but not necessary to put the smack down. In the DC universe she is second only to Superman in overall power, and not a distant second either. When Superman's mind was being controlled by a villain, she was the only one who was able to stop the Man of Steel long enough until the situation was brought under control.

So leave my woman alone!

WikiLeaks' Bottom-Line Revelation

by

Austin Bay

Julian Assange, the man behind the WikiLeaks dump of secret US State Department cables, has been frank about his reasons for releasing thousands of classified -and stolen -- documents.

Assange says he wants to seriously damage the United States.
If this damage forwards America's ultimate destruction, so be it. The son of leftist America-haters, Assange was born and weaned during the Cold War. Then the wrong side won. What the superpower Soviet Union failed to do with its armies, he, a super-empowered individual, will accomplish via the information anarchy of the Internet.

If Assange's history-shaping goal seems grandiose and detached from reality, indeed it is. However, once you understand the man's religion, his megalomania and solipsism become a bit more comprehensible if even more reprehensible.

Like other anti-American cranks on the planet, Assange holds firm in his warped faith that the U.S. is the leading source of global evil. The roots of this religion run deep, beginning with 18th century European aristocrats who despised the American Revolution. The anti-Americanism of Nazis, communists, tribalists, anarchists and now militant Islamists all rehash the same tropes, with their semi-schizoid baseline being the U.S. is simultaneously a vast authoritarian conspiracy and a heterogeneous menagerie of infidel-cowboy-capitalist idiots who dogmatically resist enlightened social policies.

Assange argues his revelations will force this conglomerate American monster to become more secretive and authoritarian. Limiting access to information, in order to stop future leaks, will reduce the monster's secretive and authoritarian effectiveness. The monster's "security state" will dumb down, and --here's the moment of religious rapture in Assange's prophecy -- this will increase global justice.

Assange also links this shackling of America to creating peace. Don't snicker too long. There are a lot of tenured gray-haired profs with ponytails who teach this dreck at notable universities and get paid for it.

Assange understands media grandstanding, but he doesn't understand people and certainly doesn't understand how American diplomats contribute to maintaining peace.

U.S. Secretary of Defense Robert Gates understands people and diplomacy, and his assessment of Assange's info dump is as clear as it is historically and psychologically informed. At the Pentagon last week, Gates said: "The fact is, governments deal with the United States because it's in their interest, not because they like us, not because they trust us and not because they believe we can keep secrets. Many governments -- some governments -- deal with us because they fear us, some because they respect us, most because they need us. We are still essentially, as has been said before, the indispensable nation."

Gates added that the cables were "embarrassing" and "awkward," but the ultimate effects on policy would be "modest."

Pray that Gates is right about modest impact, but right now and for at least the next six months, the world confronts the possibility of a nuclear war in East Asia ignited by North Korean aggression. This is a time period when the world absolutely needs close -- and trustworthy -- cooperation between the U.S. and China. A big war in Korea could kill millions but will guarantee a global economic depression. Leaked cables discuss corruption in China's Communist Party and names hypocritical party elites.

Even if the information is accurate, this is a case where revealed candor damages personal relationships among key U.S. diplomatic personnel and Chinese leaders. China is a face culture, and the leaders have lost face. A mature appreciation of the common danger should override personal anger, but another leak revealed that China sees North Korea as a "spoiled child" and that it believes Korea will ultimately be reunited with South Korea absorbing the North. This revelation weakens China's political leverage with North Korea at a moment when any leverage is precious.

Assange, of course, did not consider how he increased the threat to the lives of millions of Korean, Japanese and Chinese when he dumped his filched documents. His faith-based narrative of American evil excludes the possibility that American diplomats are collaborating with China to avoid war and eventually put an end to North Korea's armed brinksmanship without a nuclear explosion.

Here's WikiLeaks' bottom-line revelation: Assange and ideologues like him promote an ignorant and destructive solipsism that has nothing to do with peace and justice but a lot to do with sociopathic narcissism.

"much more easily than say, getting rid of 100% of the bad cops without some kind of telepathic superpowers or magically preventing 100% of the crimes that lead to victims sueing the police"
Exactly my point about breaking a few eggs to make your big government omelet. Statists may dislike the atrocities of government, but they see it as a necessary casualty. Every day we see cops doing downright untoward and malicious things to people, even murdering them, yet the system keeps right on going. Never does a statist say, "Shit, maybe this whole police state thing isn't panning out as expected."
It's always, "there are some good cops out there too." It's senseless Stockholm Syndrome battered wife apologies.
I love Watchmen because of this very notion. Tangent alert. Nite Owl II is your typical effete modern liberal and a sensitive intellectual. He believes violence is necessary to correct the social injustices, but believe it should be just. That doesn't stop him from continuing to work with people like the Comedian and Rorschach who use violence with a great deal less restraint. In fact, he enjoys Rorschach as a partner and accepts his overzealous violence. He may not condone it himself, but he sees it as a necessary evil. Breaking a few eggs to make an omelet.

You're not even making sense. No one said it's OK to have a few bad cops. They should be fired wherever they're found. But you can't catch all of them. You can't get rid of 100% of the bad cops without getting rid of 100% of cops in general, and if you did, there'd be a hell of a lot more violence. If men were angels, there would be no need for government, but they aren't. Anarchy = prehistoric tribal warfare, mob justice, etc.

The reason there's a "double standard" is because the specific harm in this case could very easily have been avoided by sensible government policy -- much more easily than say, getting rid of 100% of the bad cops without some kind of telepathic superpowers or magically preventing 100% of the crimes that lead to victims sueing the police for not protecting them. We have more reason to complain when some easily avoidable harm occurs than when the inevitable occasionally occurs.

Russia Today - "Stop the 9-11 cover-up"

Drachen_Jager says...

Your country has REAL problems! One party wants to blockade all progress the OTHER party tries to make in legislative matters, appointments for government posts etc. While a lunatic fringe attempts to de-rail the entire political system. Having only two valid parties means that the slightly leftward one only ever needs to be slightly to the left to pick up ALL of the left vote which, in turn means that there will never be a genuine contrast of political positions.

The so called, "news" media have almost entirely given up on actually reporting, mostly because their corporate owners have no interest in disturbing the status quo but also because Americans are so intellectually lazy they'd rather hear about which celebretard is off to jail now rather than face a few unpleasant truths about their society.

But by all means spend your energy on some crackpot conspiracy theories. The world is waiting for the US to fall from superpower status so they can get on with an agenda of social improvement without the constant obstructionism. Oh, and while you're going down the tubes, please take China with you.
