DADT is history, guys. Veterans speak

Does this make our military stronger?
No.

I think the only way I could see this as partially correct is because when I was in the Navy, it wasn't secret who was gay and it didn't matter one bit. Of course you will get some homophobic people, just as there some racist people too - you can't avoid that when you are accepting people from across a large, diverse nation. Of course, some people are just assholes too.

But I'm looking at this from the viewpoint of a straight man who had/has a couple gay friends. It might be different if I was gay. In fact, now I am remembering one guy that got drunk and had sex with another man in the parking lot when we were pulled into a port (I think San Diego?) If it was a man and a women, they would have been officially reprimanded and life went on, but both of the men were kicked out of the military. That was fucked up.

Everyone's different, but some people still want to force their beliefs onto other peoples' actions. As long as those actions are involving consenting adults, I don't care what they do.

I seem to have went off on a tangent. My point is either you are being sarcastic or haven't been in the military. All this does is make the unofficial official and remove a layer of protection for people acting like assholes towards one particular group.

This is why I HATE Saturday Night Live

HenningKO says...

Yes, quirky characters are a staple of comedy, and there is often a straight-man there to play off of.
It may be formulaic, but when the performer is talented (do you think the ability to say a lot of inane stuff really fast and not crack a smile is talent? I do.) it can be enjoyable to watch. This, at least, is much better than that stupid Will Ferrel character whose quirk was talking really loud.

Anyway, yeah, this is not a joke repeated over and over, it's a performance.

Homosexuality not 'valid', NY GOP Candidate says

VoodooV says...

Quite honestly, my theory is that people don't have a problem with homosexuality per se, it's that perception that homosexuality = weakness. It's that gender role reversal that has people scared IMO where boys act like girls and girls act like men. In all honesty. That's one thing I still don't really get about homosexuality. What exactly about being homosexual makes a man TALK like a girl? In all honesty, it's that stereotypical flamboyant, effeminate "fabulous" archetype that freaks people out. Chances are, you know someone who is homosexual but they simply act straight so you don't even know it. It's that perception that all homosexuals secretly dress up in BDSM attire and are fabulous interior decorators.

It's the same damned thing with black people. which stereotype causes the most fear for the average american? The assimilated black person who talks like a white person, or the guy dressed as a gangster with heavy ebonics-laden speech? IMO being black per se, or being homosexual per se has almost nothing to do with it. If a straight man started acting flamboyant and effeminate, people would be freaked out about that too. Kids with no strong male role models are perceived to be momma's boys and are picked on...it's the same thing.

Fight those stereotypes and I bet you anything people would accept homosexuality a lot more.

i just dont understand why so many people care what gay people are doing? who gives a fuck? dont we all have other things to worry about? why do these people spend so much time concerned about who someone else loves?

How The Media Plays With Muslims' Emotions

Farhad2000 says...

*promote via reddit, from flashman:

This was a big thing in Australia recently. Here's where the story broke, on Media Watch, a program that's a straight-man version of The Daily Show's reactions to Fox News. The cameraman, Simon Fuller, lost his job over the incident.
Kudos to the guy's son for expressing himself so well under provocation:

Omar Amr: "Calling my dad a terrorist! Who the fuck are you to call him a terrorist? Why are you calling him a terrorist? 'Cos he has a beard and 'cos he's Muslim? It's what it comes down to? Is that what you guys have brung us down to? You can't even have a beard in this country any more without being called a fucking terrorist! Have some fucking self-decency. The man has never been to court in his life and you're calling him a terrorist! You're calling him a terrorist and he's never been to court in his life. Is that what it's come down to?"

Funniest TDS Interview Ever! (Tracy Morgan and Jon Stewart)

Thanks for that. Sounds good. I'm going to see it.

I went to a sneak-preview of the film that they don't bother to promote in the above interview. Really enjoyed it! Below is the review I wrote for Cinemaclock...
Here's the deal with this flick- if you're a fan of 1980s style comedy cop flicks a'la Lethal Weapon and especially Beverly Hills Cop, then you'll really enjoy this lightweight action film from Kevin Smith. Hell, it's even got an 80s Axel Foley synthesizer soundtrack.
Bruce Willis is the grizzled veteran cop, Tracy Morgan (or is it Jordan? I get confused) plays his goofy partner. There's a plot of sorts- revolving around the pair trying to get back a valuable baseball card stolen from Willis' character by a gang of frightening hispanic ethnic stereotypes, the leader of which is a sports memorabilia collector.
There are a bunch of chases- both on foot and in cars- a couple of shootouts, and some minor sub-plots with a few twists. All of which serve solely as situations for Morgan to riff off of Willis' straight-man like a manic comedic madman. These guys have some great chemistry together, in the finest buddy-picture tradition.
A couple of cameos- notably Jason Lee as the slimy step-father of Willis' daughter, and Seann William Scott is hilarious as a strung-out cat burglar.
This movie's quite a change of pace for director Smith- a straight-up mainstream comedy. But it's still got a lot of his trademark clever dialogue and the characters are better fleshed-out and more believable than is usual for this genre. It drags a little bit in the second act, but moves on soon enough and pretty much succeeds in entertaining on every level.

Colbert Interviews Roseanne Cash on Guantanamo

choggie says...

One can't travel back in the VS time machine and read comments from myself on the reasons why Colbert and the unlimited chunks on the site of HIS coke-addled writer's shooting for clever one-liner reactions from the audience, piss me off-Those of you who have read and understand my rants, can dig.
Nor can they begin to imagine the reasons why I can't stand this type of editorial/interview where the straight man/woman has to listen to the refrains of chortles following his manic barrage of innane questions designed to stroke the pseudo-humanity in those who think they have a clue how the planet is bitched, stiffed, and herded.
Too bad. I can't downvote this now, but cthulu help me when I am restored, I plan to flex it, again, and again, and again... and not specifically at this user's page folks, this isn't a witch hunt, it's a matter of taste. I see a fly, I keep it out of my food.

Booooo. Watch a television for your regularly-programmed schedule, and come to Videosift to see less and less and less of this....should the planet rebound from their somatic addiction to having fuck all of a clue, that is.

Sorry man, ignore is not really an option for someone like me-over time, engage has replaced it entirely as an option. Ant (one of the first members here) is a shining example of voting one way or another with no response offered, coerced or inferred as to the whys either way. MORE PEOPLE SHOULD TAKE HIS BOLD CUE!

Why choose Netruiner's posts to light upon form time to time?? For starters, the majority of the vids posted under his monniker scream spam. Next, Hate the news, hate everything about television or cable news organiizations. They are tools of a machine designed to numb and control. Gee, that's really about all there is except that most weather girls make me horny.
