New York GOP gubernatorial candidate Carl Paladino criticized gays, saying he didn't want children thinking "homosexuality is an equally valid or successful option."

Republican Carl Paladino says homosexuality isn't "equally valid" with heterosexuality.

Just what does then i wonder?... i mean this bigot publicly and on the record places a giant less than symbol in front of anyone who is gay.

If they are not equal they are less then.

If they are not valid they are invalid.

You cannot say these things and then behave as you have been wronged by being labeled homophobic.

You've forgotten the meaning of phobia, which is an irrational fear.

Look at something like actively oppressive sexism. If you're fundamentally and morally opposed to sexism, you don't want it endorsed by your government and you don't want it taught in your schools (and it is in some parts of the world!). However, would you say you have a phobia of actively oppressive sexist people? Probably not.

Please inform me of the rational logic behind this guy's statements.>> ^Morganth:

How stupid can the GOP be? How can they not know they are going to ultimately lose on this issue? It doesn't matter how many times they may win a battle, they are going to lose the war.

Even if I vehemently opposed homosexuality, it's simply impossible to stop the growing acceptance of homosexuality. So a smart politician should see the writing on the wall and get on board.

Deny women rights? You lose.
Deny black rights? You lose.

How often must we go through this before we stop shooting ourselves in the foot?

Don't worry, if you're still opposed to homosexuality, you can still disown your child if they are gay and send them to brainwas-err I mean church camps to reprog-err I mean enlighten them to the "correct" way.

ignorance --> fear --> homophobia

A lot of people tend to translate phobia to hatred, that's not the case. Because it's against people, some people tend to get extra up in arms, but I think some times that is an overreaction. People can be scared of gays, like some people are scared of heights. It happens, but that doesn't necessarily make them haters of all things gay.

There's also a level of degrees between dislike and hate; some people would rather that races were segregated, and that you only had to deal with people just like yourself, while others seem to want to make the whole world into people just like themselves. I think, we have to be careful not to group them all together (which is one of the things that they tend to do).

People have a right to their opinions, even if we don't like them. Hopefully the election results will reflect when the popular opinion is different to that of the politician.

Too many politicians say one thing and think something different, like for instance most "Family matters" republicans. I would rather hear all the gay-bashers, racists, socialists, libertarians, blankfists, and all other fringe groups speak out before the elections rather than after.

Yes but usually fear of other human beings translates easily into hatred. Now you can't really hate the ledge that makes you be up really high where you're not comfortable. You can certainly hate the people you fear though...Fear leads to anger, anger leads to hate, hate leads to suffering. Yoda knows all.

i just dont understand why so many people care what gay people are doing? who gives a fuck? dont we all have other things to worry about? why do these people spend so much time concerned about who someone else loves?

Unsure whether this sort of talk is fair or not? Do what I do.

Substitute the terms Gay and Homosexual (and their variants) with "left-handed."

Being a lefty occurs in as naturally a way as being gay. And being left-handed is not a choice. My sister was born left-handed but her parents and her teachers forced her to switch (for some demented reason) and now, her handwriting is utterly indecipherable. My point here is that being left-handed and being gay have many similarities.

Let's try it out.

New York GOP gubernatorial candidate Carl Paladino criticized lefties, saying he didn't want children thinking "left-handedness is an equally valid or successful option."

In my opinion this is exactly where the line from, as some have put it 'preference' to more of a phobia.

Because he fears that acceptance of homosexuals and their life style will lead to the corruption of his and other heterosexual children. To me this is absolutely an irrational fear. No matter how polite he tries to be about it, this is exactly what homophobia is.

Quite honestly, my theory is that people don't have a problem with homosexuality per se, it's that perception that homosexuality = weakness. It's that gender role reversal that has people scared IMO where boys act like girls and girls act like men. In all honesty. That's one thing I still don't really get about homosexuality. What exactly about being homosexual makes a man TALK like a girl? In all honesty, it's that stereotypical flamboyant, effeminate "fabulous" archetype that freaks people out. Chances are, you know someone who is homosexual but they simply act straight so you don't even know it. It's that perception that all homosexuals secretly dress up in BDSM attire and are fabulous interior decorators.

It's the same damned thing with black people. which stereotype causes the most fear for the average american? The assimilated black person who talks like a white person, or the guy dressed as a gangster with heavy ebonics-laden speech? IMO being black per se, or being homosexual per se has almost nothing to do with it. If a straight man started acting flamboyant and effeminate, people would be freaked out about that too. Kids with no strong male role models are perceived to be momma's boys and are picked on...it's the same thing.

Fight those stereotypes and I bet you anything people would accept homosexuality a lot more.
