Major Scaled #2 : REM - "Recovering My Religion"
So does this mean Michael Stipes isn't gay anymore??
The making of the Johnny Cash "Hurt" video
Tags for this video have been changed from 'Johnny Cash, Hurt, Mark Romanek, Trent Reznor, Bono, Michael Stip, Anthony Kiedis' to 'Johnny Cash, Hurt, Mark Romanek, Trent Reznor, Bono, Michael Stipe, Anthony Kiedis' - edited by xxovercastxx
Radiohead - "Lucky" featuring Michael Stipe
Stipe certainly has a nice vocal quality to bring to this song.
50 Foot Wave - Your Ghost
She also performed this song as a duet with Michael Stipe (REM), which is even better IMO

Liz Cheney's Group calls NIN's protest "Pathetic" (Music Talk Post)
>> ^Truckchase:
>> ^silvercord:
I hate to be negative, but really, Trent:
Stoppit
Really? You're going to side with Mrs. Cheney on this one eh? I'm sure you'll find plenty of popular support on that....
I'm not "siding with Mrs. Cheney." I'm responding to the sentiment regarding the positive influence that Nine Inch Nails have had on American culture, i.e. " . . . all the awesome musicians who have enriched American culture . . . " and all the other indignation over at the NIN hotline. If it had been Michael Stipe, I wouldn't have said a word.
How one black man defeated the KKK with humor and grace
>> ^wagthedog1:
I was kind of waiting for the telling of this guys moment of reform, but it never arrived. Is he still a practicing KKK member or not?
Read the rest of the interview transcript and see for yourself. There is also a Rev Wade Watts tribute on Johnny's website.
From the tribute page:
"On another occasion, he went into a cafe in Ada, Oklahoma with his friend, Oklahoma State Senator Gene Stipe, where he was stopped at the door by the waitress. She proceeded to tell them they did not serve Negroes there! Wade told the woman, "Ma'am, I don't eat Negroes anyway, just give me some ham and some eggs!""
:} Sounded like a real genuine, loving, funny guy.
Feist on Sesame Street
>> ^laura:
Anyone else heard the rumour that the people who appear on Sesame Street are doing so because they were court ordered to community service? Or is it just me...I've always wondered if that was true.
Yes, it's true. Feist, Michael Stipe, Tyra Banks, The Backstreet Boys, Jack Black, James Blunt, Tim Robbins, Noah Wyle, Blair Underwood and about one hundred other celebrities were all only on Sesame Street to honor a court order. I mean, it's a rumor you heard, it MUST be true!
R.E.M. "Love Is All Around"
they're so clever, mixing the bababababa in with the other words like that.. and stipe's 'ahh' bit... sexier than a kitten in a rectangular box.
R.E.M. "Love Is All Around"
Maybe the English subtitles are for karaoke purposes?
I like the part where Michael Stipe sings "Ba-ba-ba-ba-ba, ba-ba-ba."
R.E.M.: Pop Song 89 (Censored Version)
This is the version I remember seeing on MTV. I thought REM was just having fun with censorship. According to Wikipedia, MTV made the request.
'In the music video, MTV asked Stipe, who directed it himself, to censor the three topless women with whom he was dancing in the video. Instead, Stipe superimposed black bars on the chests of all four dancers, himself included, and stated, "a nipple is a nipple."'

You're off to a good start with that 3-D face morphing software, leeweek. And everybody dupes, sometimes. </stipe>
REM on David Letterman, 1983 - So. Central Rain

REM on David Letterman, 1983 - Radio Free Europe
Their first television appearance.
Yes, they DID once have energy and passion!
Yes, Michael Stipe DID once have hair!
Murmur, what an album.
