Well first off--now I see an answer to my question,

"Why the hell are they wasting top-of-the-page space?"

I don't see three promoted videos in a line; I see two videos and a third one below and to the left, leaving a big hole below and to the right.

I agree with @bareboards2, @eric3579, @ctrlaltbleach, @Sagemind, et al. And @spoco2's dissection is spot on.

I also have a problem with the crosshatching. I don't know the optical reasons, but the gray on gray crosshatch is like lasers in my eyeballs. Maybe color is part of it? I know the conspiracy tag is completely unreadable to me now.

I love this place and remember my fevered consternation when--in the past--the site was down for me. But I've had to go elsewhere recently just because of eyestrain.

It's so hard to not just want dickheads like this just removed from society, just taken out of altogether because they just have no right to live around other people. I've seen a share of fucktards like this on trains/at stations, and I just wish they were fenced off from the rest of the country and allowed to die off.
But that's not really the solution is it? The reason these fuckwits exist is fear and lack of education. This absolutely horrible, abhorrent mindset is born out of living a life that is insular and not exposed to people of other cultures and backgrounds and discovering that really it's ok that people exist that are 'different' to you, and the vast majority of people from any culture are really nice and just want a happy life. And the fear comes from thinking that these 'other' people are going to make you the minority instead of them, and thinking that you're losing your 'power'.

I'd love to believe that all of us here were as accepting as the majority of us are, but the fact is there's this entire set of horrible, racist shitheads, and there's an entire other set of people who aren't 'bad' people but have this racist undercurrent to them that comes up every now and again, and you are taken aback and go 'Fuck me, I'd never have guessed that you could feel that way about a whole race of people'
It just fucking saddens me. Any time I see something in the media about people being racist here I so want it not to be true.

I don't always agree with your channel assignments, but have added back as many as I could of these If it really goes viral I can swap death for viral... they certainly intend it to, but manufacturing viral vids is a bit hit and miss.

FYI the viral channel is for viral ads, not for videos that go viral. But I think there are a total of five people on the sift who actually know what that channel is for, so whatever (it should really be renamed).

I'm pretty sure this was created with the aim to be viral. How else is it supposed to be shown? You don't tend to have 3 minute adverts on tv.

Sure. But my point was that most people assume that the viral channel is for videos that go viral (which is not an unreasonable assumption), but really it is only meant for viral ads created for the internet. Whether or not the ad successfully goes viral is has no bearing on its place in that channel.


#viral doesn't need to be renamed, it needs to be deleted. Not only is it among the most misused channels on the site, it's also completely worthless even when used correctly.

I love it, the kids all loved it, the wife loved it. As to whether it'll get the message across, I don't know, but I think it's awesome. Considering the number of times recently the trains have been stopped due to death on the line, something needs to be done.

Stop stopping the trains? How much damage can one bipedal cause a locomotive...


Not much, but they spend so much time cleaning up the mess and 'investigating' how the person died... it's way heaps inconvenient to everyone.

But seriously, I've had my train line shut down during peak hour three times in as many months, it's happening quite a bit, so I can see why they felt the need to do something.
