Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker | Final Trailer

Digitalfiend says...

I still have a hard time getting into these new movies with Rey as the protagonist. The first movie started off promising but the Last Jedi really killed it for me. Rey will probably end up choke-slamming the Emperor back down the nearest reactor shaft without breaking a sweat, so, I'm just going to see it for the space battles...

Now That's A Fantastic Video Game Ad

ChaosEngine says...

Eve ads look like the most amazing Star Wars/Trek/BSG/culture space battles ever.

And then you see a video of an actual battle, where the server has slowed to 10% realtime and the whole thing plays like excel in space.

Elite: Dangerous E3 2014 Trailer

jmd says...

Sorry It was in response to newtboy, in which I was actually referring to production value and pc hardware requirements. I am expecting this game to be kind of like eve where there is a deep underlying strategy and building game underneath its space battle like visuals. Again not alot of people cup of tea which is why no ones ever come into my store asking if we sell "EVE", but that doesn't mean its a bad game. Just a bad title.

Huh? What games are you currently playing?

And please don't confuse cinematic production value with immersiveness,

The Emperor Voiced by Mark Hamill's Joker

ChaosEngine says...

That was really well done. *quality

Looking back on it, Vader without the mask actually kinda sounded like Bane.

But the really interesting thing is, after all the bullshit prequels, I'd forgotten just how good the end of Jedi actually was. Ok, the ewoks were annoying, but on the other hand, you had the death star space battle and tunnel run (still one of the most exciting set pieces on film IMO), and the fantastic confrontation with genuine pathos set to one of Williams crowning musicals achievements.

It's just awesome, and it made me remember why I loved Star Wars so much as a kid.

That and the Emperor fucking terrified me.

Star Citizen Extended Trailer

I think Disney owns the IP, but for now they're outsourcing development of all Star Wars games to EA.

Another X-Wing vs. TIE Fighter is too much to hope for. But DICE could do a great Battlefield style game in the setting. Throw in a few maps that are mostly space battles and that could turn out well.

Lucasarts doesn't exist any more. Electronic fucking Arse holds the IP.

Pacific Rim - Official Wondercon Trailer #2

00Scud00 jokingly says...

I do sometimes wonder if all the eye rolling I do during some sci-fi films might end up damaging my vision. That being said, if it were ever written into law that all sci-fi and fantasy scripts had to be approved by a committee scientists I fear that the genre would die out almost over night. Every space film would end up looking like 2001: A Space Odyssey, no Star Wars, no epic space battles with the sound and fury we come to associate with war. No more Babylon 5 and watching star ships carve each other up like thanksgiving turkeys. Nope, it's all totally correct now, it's also boring as hell.
Look on the bright side, whenever a movie like this comes along it gives you another chance to show everyone just how much smarter you are than all the mouth breathers out there.

artician said:

Yeah, I notice that a lot in film. If something the size of a skyscraper picked up a ship like a bat, it would crumple and fold under its own weight as soon as it was off the ground. I don't blame the FX guys, I blame the writers. They script that stuff in there without any real understanding of the physics, just figuring it will look cool.
No surprise there, hollywood and their mouth-breathing target-audience and all, so I'll swallow my disbelief and disappointment and hope it's at least a decent Evangelion americanization.

The Terrible Truth 'Star Wars' Fans Can't Admit

SevenFingers says...

I agree with him tho, remembering as a child that ewok dying was more emotional than the excitement from the final space battle which was epic as shit. Im a nerd

I'm sure Mark Hamill will be thrilled to know that scenes involving revelations about his parentage will be upstaged by a couple of jabbering throw rugs.

"Major Marks, please make that ship go away."

Best space battles from the Stargate TV series

Tingles says...

an amazing franchise, except for Universe. loved it.
space battle wise, ds9 won. but not by too much. ds9 had 3 to 4 times the average budget per episode any episode in this franchise did.

the sg-1 movie "Ark of Truth" had a 7 million dollar budget. That was about on par for one single episode of ds9. the sfx people at sg-1 in Vancouver did an amazing job for this show, Atlantis and I guess Universe. Still, I hated Universe.
