President of American College of Cardiology: No Meat Is Safe

transmorpher says...

Well you won't die early :-)

They can't do anything about death yet, but people seem confident it's just a matter of time before they solve that too. Who knows, if you make it to 120 like so many Okinawan's do then perhaps it'll get you there. Some people say that if you are able to live until 2060, then they'll have technology that allows you to extend your life for another 80 years - long enough until the next big breakthrough, and so on. It's of course sci-fi right now, but I like the idea of it :-)

Yeah, those ABS bags are pretty amazing, but they are ridiculously expensive ($1000+). I've given it a lot of thought and I know some people say you can't put a price on your life, but they're not without issues.

First, they can potentially put you in a worse situation then an avalanche! Being buried is obviously bad, but being carried over a cliff is worse.

But more insidiously, they can lead to poor decision making. I try to stay in a constant state of, if not fear, at least extreme caution in the back country. I'm actuated aware how easy it is to fuck yourself up, and I would always rather say "nah, let's come back another day" than ride in dodgy conditions. In short, I have all the gear, but I never want to rely on it.

Judge backs charges against cops in Tamir Rice killing

dannym3141 says...

Under a video about an innocent child being killed due to our gradual march towards a police state, you are justifying the need for a police state because people "mouth off" at the cops.

This kid was a satisfactory sacrifice because some people say mean things to the police. We should tolerate people being innocently killed, having their houses partially destroyed, being mistreated and actively hunted because of skin colour, police brutality and everything it encompases. Because sometimes, guys. Sometimes... people say nasty things to the police. It nearly makes me cry that people can be so mean to police officers. I hope this kid learns a lesson from this. I don't know what lesson - maybe "don't let other people be mean to the police"? Might be useful in the afterlife.

We live in a "police state" today because people are assholes thinking that they have the right to moth off at cops and each other with out consequences.

This Japanese Game Show Blows

lucky760 says...

I love the many, many, many instant replays from several angles. We don't see enough of that in this country.

Some people say the late-night version of this game show puts a rolled up wad of cash into a hot dog and the girls try to suck it out.

Deray McKesson: Eloquent, Focused Smackdown of Wolf Blitzer

"Dear Mom and Dad." About demented US gun culture.

newtboy says...

...Yes, using a gun for violence is almost always illegal. Somehow you still seem to think having one prevents this violence more often than it creates it, even though your own statistics show it's 50 times more likely to be used illegally than in a legal, but violent way. What was your point?
Abortion doesn't kill a single child, blastocysts are not children, neither are embryos. As someone who usually sounds libertarian, how can you support forcing one person to support another 'person' (since you insist it's a person, I'm not conceding that it is) both financially and physically, completely against the first person's will and wishes?!? I say if the thing can survive on it's own, fine, let it. If not, it has no right to force someone else to incubate it, and neither does anyone else. (Thank you supreme court).
I do agree with your final statement however. Go figure.
EDIT: My issue is it gives no hint what it means by "Measures to prevent gun violence" (some people say arming everyone is the best measure) and also that it both tries to shame us for trying to solve the problem with politicians and instructs us to do our part by writing our politicians...WHAT?!?

bobknight33 said:

Boo hoo hoo.

98+% of gun violence is from illegal gun use.

Abortion kills more children then every statistic listed if this filth film.

Abortion kills more children than ALL murders in the USA.

Guns are not the problem. Morality is.

Some people say I'm a cunt, it's just how I look to them. His stupid hair and smug ass look, and the fact that Manning was in solitary for 9 months while Assange has been happy with clean sheets. Kinda ticks me off.

radx said:

Assange changed over the years. I met him at the 25C3 in late 2008 and he was a cool cat. Maybe you're right and he just took one for the team, and maybe years of shit got to him, no idea. But he seemed a decent bloke in the days...

Honest Dark Knight Rises Trailer

Yogi says...

I'll field this. Dark Knight rises came on the tails of the two best comic book movies for one of the best comic book characters ever made. Batman Begins was amazing when you compare it to Batman movies of old and then Dark Knight was probably the greatest action movie ever made, it was incredible.

The bar was raised super high, and people had a problem with the last movie. I think it honestly wasn't tight enough...Dark Knight is tight as a drum, Rises simply isn't. It meanders, it's just unbelievable at times, it doesn't handle some of it's new characters well at all. Although there's moments in that movie that are great, I feel it's second half really failed.

What I can see is there was simply too much they wanted to do...so guess what cut it into two movies. One is Dark Knight Falls and then Dark Knight Rises. I would've loved it, hell Hobbit is suddenly 3 movies so don't tell me Nolan couldn't make this stuff into two, it would've ROCKED.

!SPOILERS!

The ending wasn't handled well either but the argument to change it is weird too. Some people say Alfred should see Batman and Catwoman and just smile, and we never see them. To me if Nolan did that it would've been hacky and exactly the same as the ending to Inception.

As a whole, this trilogy is better than the original Star Wars Trilogy, based on story and characters alone. It's MUCH better you don't know anything if you disagree. Also just like Return of the Jedi is a disappointment (More Ewoks MUST DIE!) so is Rises, yet I'll still watch it.

I'm really not sure what it is about this movie that inspires such pedantic nitpickery. Any big blockbuster can be nitpicked to death if you really want to. There are just as many plot holes in The Avengers, and everyone treated that like it was the second coming of Jesus.

High School Girl Spanked By Principal

Yogi says...

>> ^Stu:

You know why kids didn't used to act up in school when I was younger? We got hit. Kids today have no fear of authority. They used to send us to the teacher with a paddle and if she wasn't there, we went to the one with the meter stick. Fuck it. Hit your kids. That's what is wrong with this country. No one has respect anymore.

A child isn't a stereo, it isn't a broken piece of machinery you need to FIX. Some people say "Well my kid was doing something I didn't like so I hit him...and he stopped doing it." REALLY!?!? Is that ALL That happened? You sure that being the sentient human that he is that striking your child didn't effect him in any way whatsoever?!?

I'm blatantly stealing this shit from Louis CK btw, sometimes comedians are the greatest bearer of truth we have.

Richard Dawkins on Creationists

Yogi says...

>> ^ChaosEngine:

>> ^Yogi:
Cause at least someone is trying to write a story. I've got no beef with religion and I would say I'm an atheist. However Richard Dawkins is a dick, even Neil deGrasse Tyson thinks so.

Eh? I've seen several instances of Dawkins and NdGT sharing a stage and there seems to be a lot of mutual respect there. Do you have a source for NdGTs opinion?
As for the accusation that Dawkins is a dick, I assume that's because he has a pretty low tolerance for bullshit and doesn't tip toe around people feelings while debating them.
Not unlike you.
However, Dawkins has had a concerted and well funded campaign to discredit his lifes work from a bunch of lunatics who haven't a clue what he's talking about. What's your excuse?

http://videosift.com/video/Why-hasnt-Richard-Dawkins-converted-more-Atheists

This is the video where Tyson Rebukes Dawkins. Some people say it's just a criticism. I am the son of two teachers, and what I hear is one educator telling another that they're not educating, they're haranguing and generally being a dick about it.

I understand the arguments of leaving people who don't want to learn behind but I honestly don't feel that the majority of creationists are people who have left education or learning behind. And when you approach them by calling them an idiot at the off, you're not an educator and you're not helping anything. Dawkins has a higher bar than us idiots on the internet set for him. He isn't reaching it and Tyson rightly calls him out on it, Dawkins responds with a joke which while funny, is also telling.

My Excuse? I think he's doing more harm than good. He's drawing battle lines. Also I'll point out that I commented on that video over 2 years 9 months ago, and I said he could be a dick then. I think I've been consistent and so has Dawkins.
