You can also make a primitive kiln using the fire pits (or just dig your own holes) at the beach. I prefer this to an actual kiln, because then the entire process of sculpting and firing is DIY, like real life minecraft.

So, Genji, I saw Werner Herzog's new doc tonight. Cave of Forgotten Dreams. About a cave that was discovered in France in 1994 or so, with 35,000 year old cave paintings. Stunning.

The movie was a bit too much florid Herzog for my tastes, and I saw it in 2D and it was structured to be seen in 3D, but still. I learned something. The paintings look contemporary -- they are, well, stunning.

And I thought of you in the middle of this doc. Herzog went to a couple of museums to show other archeological works of the same time period.

One of the oldest artistic representations humans have is the Venus of Willendorf-type sculptures. You've seen them? The woman's fertile body, with tiny head, feet and hands, large belly, large thighs, large breasts, large labia. All about the fecundity. The first human image deemed important enough to sculpt.

The sculpture shown in the movie was apparently a pendant -- instead of a head, there was a ring on top for a cord or something to go through so it could be worn or held up.

And I thought -- hey, that's genji's avatar, minus the jello shot!!

Skin texture immediately looks like rubber not skin... I actually think this is wasted effort. If it looked like perfectly sculpted shiny chrome i would probably feel more affinity than this weird dead fake human look the researchers keep trying to go for.
also It's missing bio 'micro' movements. I think your subconscious expects to see slight moving, swaying, breathing, etc. Only dead things are perfectly still.


If you look closely at his chest and shoulders it is making a breathing like movement.

As opposed to the refinement of aluminum from ore, the recycling of aluminum is quite efficient, so it's not that wasteful. Also it's for an art piece.

well in this instance i think a huge slab of metal with slighty beveld edges would actualy have been more of a spectical than the end product due to the fact its not something we see often.

in the time david was sculpted it would have been the hight of technoligy/ablity to make the human form like that where as now we can work stuff using computers to an unbelievable level of detail its not really a spectical to see something like that formed. ( i mean there is just as much spectical in a CG model as there is in the real world cutting of it)

The thing is the end result of what he did to this table was not something mind blowingly original and the end table is haedly the most practical of tables having a ditch in it. granted for some person some place they would love the form of this table , but i think there are probably thousends of people that given a chance to have there 3d model /cad drawing turned into a phisical object would have ended up with something as nice if not nicer looking but allso more practical.

Aside from composing, I love improvising on various instruments, drawing, sculpting, and other methods of making things. My main hobby is mathematics, with special interests in symmetry, polyhedra, and surreal complexity. This was clearly the most awesome and epic thing I have ever, and will ever witness.

A few comments:

1) Your personal firearms collection is very nice.
2) You do have a well-sculpted body. Kudos.
3) You have obviously never had any sort of combat training in your life, otherwise, you would know that:

a) Grenades have a second safety thumb clip that needs to come off before pulling the pin
b) you don't put grease paint on to blend in and then take your shirt off
c) you apply grease paint in such a way that it's actually effective with darker colors on high-shine areas
d) you don't throw a knife away when you're holding a gun, especially without looking. If you miss, you can't fire another knife.
e) you don't wear reflective material like chain necklaces
f) you don't use 9mm SMGs in open terrain
g) you don't silhouette yourself by standing on top of a cliff
h) you don't rest a weapon on the magazine. It can lead to jamming.
i) you don't need a black mask in broad daylight
j) you don't roll around on the ground whilst firing. You won't hit anything.
k) you don't spin around a corner and immediately fire. You won't hit anything.
l) you don't walk through big bushes. You can't see anything and you will give yourself away.
m) you don't hold a weapon right-handed and look through the left eye.
n) squatting and letting wildlife crawl around you doesn't accomplish anything.
o) you don't fire an automatic weapon with one hand
p) You don't hold fire on full auto without having a weapon fed by a belt.
q) you don't jerk the trigger on a rifle. Your aim will be off.
r) You don't stand in a window to screw a suppressor on. You're easier to see and will get shot. Same as (g).

Other than all that, you're fuckin' awesome.
