Harassment is a bad thing, but I feel very sorry for anyone that does not engage in general pleasantness, and finds phrases like "how are you?" and "nice day!" to be a form of harassment. Worst still, to chastise and publicly present them as harassers on youtube .. what sort of lowlife do you have to be to do that? I don't care how many actual harassers you caught, that is not an acceptable method so put the net away and get the fishing rod out.

I say things like hello, nice day.. And if i'm in a queue and i think of something to say that i think someone might find funny or help someone out, i'll say it. I don't expect a reply, but if there's a fun person around then it might pass the time better. I asked someone of the female persuasion at my pool the other week if they were looking for the sauna (slightly hidden away) because i heard her talking to what i assume was her husband about the sauna. I do that for old men, old ladies, fat blokes, skinny women; all sorts.. i offer men and women help out of the jacuzzi if they need it. Her reaction was to say "No..... WHY?" very pointedly.

Well you know what? Fuck her - i did something nice and now she's the one that's being rude to others. I cannot fucking stand the high and mighty attitude of these people, as though they have never been guilty of accidentally doing something other people didn't want them to do. As though they have an inbuilt capability to read the motive of other people. Obviously i offered to explain the location of the sauna because i wanted to have sex with her in it (yeah, sex in a disgusting public sweat box & burnt genitals, my favourite), god forbid someone actually be nice to someone else. I felt like being rude back, but that'd make me worse than her.

There is a very fine line between being an activist against harassment, and being an unhinged arsehole who goes around over reacting and getting the wrong end of the stick and hurting people who were showing genuine honesty. I'm so sorry if you've been harassed in the past, but you don't see victims of domestic abuse blaming everyone that looks/talks at them funny in the street for all the pain they've suffered - which is substantially more painful and personality-warping than the average activist blogger jumping on the "trigger-warning" bangwagon.

Harassment exists and this blanket of "harassment" that these videos engender for all sorts of shit is distracting us from that issue, and to some degree turning people against the issue..... I mean, if i get unfairly treated like a scumbag for years by "mostly" women who assume i'm harassing them, do i get license to make videos about it and complain about women as a whole, judging every action of every woman to be one of harassment because of my own insecurities? That's why these kind of videos are so poorly received @EMPIRE.. the majority of the content is the videographer sneering at people for being pleasant and exchanging niceties, why should people laud that kind of behaviour? I expect that behaviour to be discouraged by women as well and i'd forgive them for taking more notice of the fewer examples of harassment than i did, because opinions are a bit selfish by nature.

And i didn't even question the validity of the supporting cast..... I'm sure Rob Bliss (OF ROB BLISS CREATIVE DOT COM EVERYBODY FAVOURITE AND LIKE PLS) would have no desire to help make this video more interesting! I quote his own philosophy here from his website, he believes in "giving people the content that they want." Interestingly worded remit... Why does no one ever question the source if it's a "reality" video? The guy practically states in his "approach" section that he aims to pander to people, he doesn't want to challenge viewer opinion...

Walloftext, sorry, but i don't like the sentiment of this video, and i will not let people in the comments tell me that i am a bad person for doing so - these are my reasons.

It depends on how you define "work". I've done it before; in Finland going from BRUTALLY hot sauna (like 90's C hot) to a lake that was probably just above freezing. You don't want to stay in long, but the cycle puts you into sensory overload mode and it feels really good unless you push the time spent in either extreme too long.

I've also done it in Colorado with less of an extreme temperature gap. Saunas in the US usually run a lower temperature (usually they try to keep them under 120 F or so) but you can make them feel hotter by pouring water on the heater stones to crank up the humidity. I've gone from that to rolling around in snowdrifts, and the effect is again quite nice as long you don't stay in the snow too long (probably under a minute).

Maybe I just have genetics like those crazy Polar Bear Club dudes.

Do that after 10-20 minutes in a sauna and it'll go from "augh!" to "ahhhh".

I'm still waiting for someone to make a sauna with bleachers.

Couple of points in this that are absolutely laughable.

If the gov't can't borrow money, would it continue to function? Yes.
Would it require we immediately cut defense funding overnight, completely withdraw from Afghanistan and Iraq? Yes.
Would we have to become isolationist? Yes.
Would it destroy the US economy pretty quickly? Yes.

Look, even if you're a deficit hawk, if you actually understand economics, you'd know that even if you wanted to transition all gov't expenditure to pay as you go, you can't do it overnight. It's the economic equivalent of throwing someone suffering from hypothermia into a sauna to warm them back up.

The president has gone back on some of his promises like torture, etc. How in the hell is that of any relation to lowering the credit rating of the US gov't?! Yeah, Obama, just like every president in US history, lied, and that means that the national debt, which couldn't be paid back even in this decade, will never be paid back because of Obama, even though Obama would have been out of office for decades before those debts are paid. Why did creditors trust Bush after WMDs weren't found? Why did they trust Clinton after lying under oath about his affair? Why trust Bush Sr. after the "read my lips" gaffe? I think I know why. BECAUSE THEY WEREN'T RELEVANT TO THE US GOV'TS ABILITY TO PAY BACK DEBT!

Hey, don't apologize! I've been to Finland several times, and this guy encapsulates my impressions perfectly. Nice people, doing their best to speak my language while making me coffee and making me feel at home. Full of humor and self-irony; very aware they are struggling with the language, but inventive and laughing (at themselves) all the way. Taking great pleasure in the simple things. Next step: sauna! (So get ready to get naked.)

We've all had reason to have cold showers, hot weather, horniness, hangover. I've done the sauna thing jumping thru a hole cut in ice on a lake. Atlantic. In all these things getting in and out is your choice. Great point! Cold water feels like burning, we all know that. It doesn't matter whether it's causing any physical damage either, the child is clearly terrified. Another point that needs to be made to some of you thick-skulled people is that abuse is abuse. It doesn't matter what level it's at, how bad you think it is, it still had the capability of ruining the victim's life.

For instance, I spent a few years in a care home, I've seen young people who went through some terrible abuse, and some not so terrible. It doesn't change how that person is going to turn out, how they can develop patterns, kick up complex coping mechanisms, and end up with a life-long tendency for depression or much worse. If abuse has taken place - and there is no way that ridiculing a child, terrifying them, burning their mouth and dousing them with cold water isn't abuse by the way - then it will effect them, in small ways or huge, no one can know until often later on in their adult life.

Talking about how "well this happened to me and this is how I turned out" is completely pointless to the argument, because every person is different and will deal with childhood trauma differently, it's all relative. How about it doesn't happen in the first place and the risk is taken out of the equation, I like that idea best...

It's not my task to convince you that God does or does not exist.

There are likely millions of people on this planet that would deny the existence of God even if God appeared before them.
