So when did they start selling air to us? (Food Talk Post)

videosiftbannedme says...

I know Doritos have been that way for a while. I bought one of those sampler cereal packs recently (you know, it has trial sizes of Frosted Flakes, Honey Smacks, Fruit Loops, etc) and noticed it was like eating packing foam. Again, no density. So that's what prompted me to write a post.

And yes, while products are sold by weight and not by volume, I'm certainly sure that the boxes weren't made bigger to accommodate the same weight that the original, more denser cereals afforded. So there for the product is lighter, thus saving on shipping. That was more the point I was trying to make.

And since I'm on a rant about food they don't make the same way anymore (and products they don't make anymore altogether), I also want to say I sure do miss Lemon Coolers. They were made by Sunshine Biscuit company and were similar to a lemon Nilla wafer, though thicker, and were coated in a lemony powdered sugar. Those too have gone the way of the Dodo. The closes thing I've found to them are sold in Target stores, called Lemon Straws. Oh well...

Yup, that's me. I enjoyed KOTOR1. I never played Dragon's Origin, but I wanted a free sampler. The problem I have is lack of free time so I am picky on what to play.

Hey Ant, I'm assuming you're the same Ant from BluesNews (though as we both know, there are many many ants in the world). I can heartily recommend Mass Effect 1 to you. If you like shooters and RPG's it's a hybrid of both, with a realllllllly good story and universe setting. Did you play Knights of the Old Republic? It's most similar to that in terms of game mechanics, like the party system, the dialogue, etc. It has character classes, and a really cool system where you choose a branching 'history' of your character that effects the game's plot. Just like Dragon Age's origins segments, but instead of playing out the prequel part you choose it through a branching tree structure of choices.

It was made for consoles first, but the PC version was developed on it's own.. it's not actually a port, it just came out later, and actually has several improvements to the combat system over the console version. I'm a major PC gamer, the only reason I have a PS-3 is because it gets good games that never make it to PC.

Anyways, if you have any questions concerning the game let me know. I'm very anti-spoiler when talking about games, books, movies etc. The fact that I'm going out of my way to recommend it should hint at the game's quality.

Making Prodigy's "Smack My Bitch Up" In Ableton

Croccydile says...

I think the concept of royalties for sampling had already been settled earlier, when the sample is small enough they do not really have to pay. This was a big problem and argument over rap albums sampling small bites from each other. There were tons of re-sampled sounds in the early 90s.

Either way this is a better insight to which albums were sampled, not to mention skill in deconstruction.

He's also using a modern program when The Prodigy was more likely using rackmount equipment and samplers to accomplish the same effect. They did not really have this sort of software based realtime editing in 1997.

Jack in the Box shamelessly panders to stoners

vairetube says...

i know one of the kids that got a huge settlement from this; he has to have medical treatment for his whole life because of it, but its was a decent enough amount to keep him taken care of.

because of this, jack in the box became one of the safer places to get food from! i used to eat all the time at the one that caused one of the incidents and boy, was i ever stoned... when they introduced that sampler with cheese sticks, chicken bits, and jalepeno poppers i thought i'd died and gone to stoner heaven. oreo shakes? curly fries! ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh its all coming back.

I played drums for Feral Children on "The Second to Last Frontier" which scott recorded in seattle. I don't play with them anymore. I never listened to Animal Collective but after meeting scott i did, and it's pretty obvious the rest of the guys were influenced by it... AC is waaaay better overall, truly unique.

vairetube, what is the name of the band you're in?

I like this song, I respect Animal Collective for what they do, using the samplers and all but I'm a huge sucker for Noah's (Panda Bear) "solo" stuff much more. That kid has it down. And as far as I know they don't really even consider themselves musicians in the way that they're like - "oh, the next chord is an A minor" which I also find interesting. Lot's of good stuff come from folks with that mindset and some creative flair.

Deadmau5 is the best DJ in 10 years

mt256 says...

I liked the 2nd song more. Reminds me of acid trance circa 2000.
I think it's pretty cool what he's doing - and i would classify this as live music more than DJ'ing, since he's using samplers efx and drum machines on top of what is probably dj software on his laptop (e.g. Traktor).

He is also a producer so he does make his own, original music

BTW, any1 curious about the micky mouse head thing??? It looked freaky but it's his logo or whatever.. can be seen on his WP: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deadmau5

Anyone who thinks it looks fake can catch him at a live show, where he does the exact same thing. There's no point in faking it - it only tends to impress people who have a rudimentary grasp on sampler technology anyway, which is not like... you know, girls or anything.

Martial Arts Stunt Sampler Video

mobile_gam says...

"This is a martial arts sampler video featuring Boon-Hau from ESKnives.com. Footage includes a couple of tricks, some weapons displays, as well as raw footage of his performance in Star Wars fight scenes with Team Ryouko at the Toronto International Circus Festival 2005. Enjoy. The guy in red did many of the Sith stunts in the last few Star Wars movies."
