What the Duck?!? This is INSANE!

Driving in North Korea

rich_magnet says...

It looks surprisingly neat and tidy. The tour, being authorized, was probably directed just so to show the nicest face of the city: morning rush hour so it looks like there's traffic, not too hot, only the most monument-studded roads, avoiding the slums and whatnot.

The Raid Director Gareth Evans Lists His Top 5 Action Scenes

Sarzy says...

Not hipster doucheism at all -- it's pretty much impossible to deny. I mean, the first Rush Hour was fun, as was Shanghai Noon, but the rest of Chan's Hollywood filmography has been pretty weak (I mean, I don't think anyone is going to come out of the woodwork to defend the Tuxedo). And even those two pretty good films pale in comparison to pretty much anything Chan made in Hong Kong in the '80s and early '90s.

It sounds like the ultimate hipster doucheism, but really Jackie Chans Hong Kong movies are just so much better than his western stuff. Police Story is just so funny, it really showcases Chans comedic timing.

war protester gets run over by a car

"war protestor gets run over by car" sounds different than "student sitting in middle of street during rush hour and continually moving to stay in front of car gets run over by it"

Louis CK - Different Set of Values

PHJF says...

Because when I'm traveling at 65mph during rush hour in the city and roughly two billion other people are traveling at 65mph around me, one fucking idiot can ruin two billion peoples' fucking days. It's precisely because a car is a weapon that I get pretty fucking irritated by distracted/incompetent/impaired drivers.

"Who's On First?" - The Sequel

I love the Rush Hour 3 version in the Kung Fu school between Chris Tucker and the old, blind Kung Fu master named Yu.

Chris: "Are you deaf?!"
Yu: "No, Yu is blind."
Chris: "I'm not blind. YOU blind!"

Motorcycles Lane Splitting is Safe!

PancakeMaster says...

CA lane-splitting rider here. I'm glad it is legal, and I'm glad I have the opportunity to decide whether and when I want to split lanes. If I feel a section of road will be unsafe, because of an often congested on-ramp for example, I can safely re-enter a lane and be a part of traffic. However in very congested/stand-still traffic, such as rush-hour or stop lights, I will gladly relinquish my spot in a lane and drive at a safe speed between traffic until I wish to or feel the need to reenter. I'm not saying it's safer in all situations, a la this video, but the choice should be there.

Anecdotal evidence from my experiences; I've been nearly cut-off more times while in a lane than between lanes. Of course I ride in a lane more often so it's not really a balanced comparison :]

End of the day; it should be up to the rider. It has to do with self responsibility, awareness of the risks involved and how to handle them.

(btw, I hate that they bring up asia....come of those countries don't even driver license requirements)

So what he is saying is that he takes gun safety seriously but you know, play with guns enough and this happens? Ok. Good thing it wasn't life threatening and he had his parents on speed dial. Anyway, thanks for the cautionary tale Tex, I've taken it to heart and decided not to own a gun.

Soumds t'me like your decision was made before Tex's embarrasing demonstration viddy of how-NOT-to draw a pistol here swayed yer judgement regarding the stated dilemma... If safety be your primary concern, there's more than a century of data on the subject that pretty much proves that guns are safer than store-bought apple juice or alfalfa sprouts!! Factor in the latest technology behind the manufacturing and you may as well play naked football on the expressway at rush hour as walk yer doggy!

Incredible Anti-Smoking Ad From Thailand

braschlosan says...

I thought this video was about children who smoke. I've had many travels around Asia and it still surprises me to see young kids with better smoking technique than I had.

In Indonesia especially the kids had to support their habit by selling magazines and snacks in the middle of traffic. The busier the road the better. So they are literally smoking a cigarette while weaving through "rush hour" traffic trying to get your attention while you are dodging 20 some motorcycles weaving around your vehicle.

I'm not sure what will kill them first, cancer, getting hit by a car or breathing in the terrible emissions from cars/motorcycles that have no emissions controls to speak of.

Montreal Students Protest Timelapse [March 22 2012]

Tokoki says...

It's never a all of nothing...

Do I agree that, in the best or worlds, education should be free. Absolutely.

Do I think that, in the financial situation this province is in, it's realistic to protest against a tuition hike that still will make it (one of) the lowest tuition in North America? Absolutely not.

We have a bunch of problems to solve - including waste government spending etc...and I'd love nothing better than to have a free education system...but as it is, we have the highest income tax rate in Canada (probably North America), we have debt issue, health system issues, etc. It just is not realistic at this point.

Have a little protest to make your point, and move on. Get some concession to have a bit better bursaries to help those students that need it, sure. Have a 200k protest where you jam up everybody during rush hour, close bridges, etc...I'm sorry, that justs feels like first world problems to me.

Do I have any evidence or polling about who agrees with the protesters...no. That's just based on what you hear on the street/news - which isn't scientific, of course...but I'd bet that there's a greater likelihood that it's the correct situation than not.

Students protesting about tuition hikes...when they have the cheapest tuition in all of North America!
Typically, when a group is protesting about something, you find a decent part of the general population that agrees with them. In this particular case...pretty much everyone here agrees that they're out in left field on this - including most of the other students who were actually trying to go to school.

Ummm why would you think this? Just because it's cheaper there than it is in America doesn't make it right. Higher education like community colleges should be free. Mexico has free state schools that are comparable to American ones across the border...yet they're free in a poor country and in a rich country they'r not. Does that seem right?
Also why not present some evidence or polling about who does and doesn't agree with these protesters.

Road rage - I'm calling the police

Confucius says...

But see...dum dum...we're not talking about you. Stop thinking about only yourself. Expand your mind to other people and adopt THEIR perspective. Stop being selfish and narrow minded.

You said that that it doesnt matter because there were no emergency vehicles at the moment. REALLY??? What if there were? What if there are the next time?

It sounds like you're encouraging people to do this. Who gives YOU or HER the right to impose themselves on you or others? Can you imagine if someone did this to her and caused her delay?

Why is it okay for her to do this? Because it only inconveniences ppl for 10 mins? REALLY?

You dont think EVERYONE wants to just park wherever tf they want to? I feel like im talking to a third grader....If she in your weirdo world can do it then everyone should be able to do it. Then there would be no traffic problem AT ALL because the city would be one giant parking lot. No inconvenience then because there wouldnt even be a point in getting in your car.

This could go on forever. This is my last post on this vid.

I am quite used to gridlock and delay and have learned to take it in stride. I live and work in areas where it takes an hour to go 1 mile at peak rush hour. I regularly get held up for an hour or more. Two days ago, on a layover on a 30 hour flight, our plane was delayed for 50 minutes.
To only be inconvenienced for 10 minutes at a time would actually be a great improvement.
So, thank you for your ironic wish. I in turn sincerely hope you develop some patience and fortitude.>> ^Confucius:
May you be inconvenienced for 10 minutes many many times until YOU gain some perspective.......and half a brain.
>> ^longde:
There was no emergency vehicle.
It's not a big deal; and I hate to wait in traffic. If you think 10 minutes is a big deal, the problem with that attitude and this video is that people don't know how to keep things in perspective, and want to escalate everything into a mountain. What's next, honor killings 'cause I cut you off in traffic?

Yes, she blocked the street. Big fucking deal. Yes she was an asshole, but the blocked drivers were delayed for what, 5-10 minutes?
I would think that when the guy has posted her name, number, and business, inciting people to harass the woman, he opened himself to prosecution or a lawsuit. Or some heavy retaliation. If I was directly responsible for kicking bread out of someone's mouth, I would be constantly looking over my shoulder.

Yea no big fuckin deal at all unless there is an emergency vehicle that needs to get by, or you are on your break and going back to work, or maybe going to pick your kid up from your asshole insignificant other. BUT BIG FUCKIN DEAL IF YOU DONT HAVE ANYWHERE TO BE AT THE MOMENT.
