Brainwashed

moonsammy says...

Oops this turned into a semi rant. But I am legitimately open to discussion here, and am curious to get your thoughts on a few points Bob. That is, IF you're willing to actually think about them beyond the level of repeating talking points.

I find it interesting how divergent the two overall "sides" are in this country, in terms of where they focus. None of the issues brought up in this video are really on the radar of most progressives, beyond being aware some on the right are talking about them. And I'm guessing a lot of the concerns progressives discuss rarely come up in your chosen media landscape. A lot of the issues in the video are largely off of my radar, and I have to wonder how you feel they should be addressed - like, actual proposed solutions rather than just complaining about / worrying about them.

We only dedicate one day to remember our fallen soldiers

How many should there be? Arguably we have more than one already: there's Memorial Day and Veterans Day, and it seems that Sept 11th is often used for the purpose as well.

I'd argue we should spend more time acknowledging and understanding the principals behind WHY our soldiers died in the various conflicts which caused them to fall in the first place. Let's make sure our citizenry appreciates what we collectively rejected in the Revolutionary war. Why it was important that we kept the country together rather than allowing the south to split off in the mid-1800s. Why we chose to honor our diplomatic agreements and support our allies in WW1. Why we fought against the countries and governments we did in WW2. What our goals were in Korea and Vietnam, and what lessons we learned from those conflicts and from the Cold War in general. Commemorating and remembering those we've lost absolutely matters, but if we're ONLY doing that while forgetting why they fought OR ignoring what we learned then we're doing them an equal or greater disservice. Remember that America was built on the idea of forming "a more perfect union" - not a perfect one, a MORE perfect one - a work in progress. We're striving towards an ideal, not assuming we're already there. Learning from our past successes, failures, and our struggles around both outcomes is vital. If our self-analysis is no deeper than hero worship we'll never make real progress towards that theoretical perfect union.

The only mask that's gonna save us is duct tape on their mouths

Yeah, sound medical advice and evidence-based science is terrifying. Better to shut up those whose words we dislike, because we're reactionary authoritarian babymen. I truly do not understand being more afraid of reasonable safety measures than of a virus which has been shown to cause serious harm in the short and long terms. The only reason this "masks = liberal / maskless = conservative" crap came about is because politics has devolved to the level of team sports in the US, and one party has chosen "the opposite of whatever our political opponents say" as their entire governing philosophy. (And yes, ONE party - research and understand the GOP's 2020 platform if you want to argue the point.) This video even seems to reach a reasonable conclusion at the end, while coming up just short of that final logical leap to "maybe I should question what the public faces of MY side have been claiming in this Us vs Them madness." Seriously - keep going friend, you're almost there! George Washington was 100% right in wanting to avoid political parties being a force in the US, and it makes me immensely sad that his fears came true.

Big oil runs the world / the only wars to get fought are with the countries who have natural resources they want

Solid point here, no sarcasm. The US military has long been a tool of our profit-driven form of "free market" imperialism. A really great way to combat this, specifically with an eye to ending Big Oil's goddamn death grip on our foreign policy goals, would be an aggressive implementation of renewable energy projects. Remember the space race? America can be an absolute beast at clever engineering solutions when we dedicate ourselves to it. Fuck the petrostates, we have the available land and resources to absolutely kick ass in the realms of solar and wind power, and be leaders in the the post-hydrocarbon reality. We can certainly agree on that, right Bob? Left / Right nonsense fully aside, I think any reasonable American can agree on at least two points: let's stop sending heaps of cash to buy oil off of the Saudis (etc), and Fuck Cancer.

But if a white man acts too white he's white trash / he's a racist he's a bigot he's a monster

What the fuck is this horseshit? What does "acting too white" even fucking look like? Watching NASCAR on a sailboat while listening to polka? Typically when I see racism from white people it's in the form of denying that brown-hued people deal with any additional difficulties in life due to their skin tone, or denying that there have been structural obstacles for them through history, or lamenting that their white children are being burdened with a broader lens on culture or with (gasp! shock!) an accurate accounting of actual US history, including the ugly bits that we shouldn't be proud of (but MUST learn from). I'm progressive / lefty as fuck and there is no aspect of "white culture" or "acting white" which upsets me in the slightest. UNLESS one counts "denying racism exists / has ever existed" as a fundamental value of being white. Which... why would anyone want to claim that nonsense? If you want to listen to classic country music in a rusty pickup truck while driving to an evangelical church, then discuss hockey over Buds after 18 holes with the rest of your tractor pull team, then absolutely go nuts my fellow caucusoid! Just recognize and understand that your life experiences may not be the same as those of others. Further, if we care about trying to avoid unnecessary, avoidable unfairness in life (recognizing that life will never truly be fair, for anyone), then it might be reasonable for some governmental / legal / structural recognition in furtherance of that notion. There is absolutely room for legitimate policy disagreement here without being accused of racism. It's denial of others' reality which tends to garner the label of racist (sexist etc) - steer clear of denying the lived experiences of other people, allow for the possibility they may have encountered difficulties you haven't / won't, and we've room for further discussion.

Edit / final point: I voted the video back up to 0 from the -1 where I found it. Because while I disagree with a lot of the positions taken by the performer, they may have reached them through no fault of their own and with no true malice. Misinformation / disinformation is a devious shit of a motherfucker, and the rot it causes can run deep. It is painful to abandon deeply-held beliefs, on a fundamental level. If nothing else, the video gives us room to discuss some specific viewpoints held by people who think of themselves as good, but which can lead to harm.

Uh-oh.
Sounds like Trump charged the government 6 times the agreed rate of $200 a night for his own secret service’s rooms to the tune of at least $1.4 million in overcharges, possibly 10 times that amount or more.
Yet another criminal investigation, not to keep Trump from running, but because everything he was involved in involved multiple serious felonies.

Sorry, this news doesn’t include any vote fraud either.

Body cam videos capture showdown at Muscogee County Jail...

newtboy says...

Cop egos shut down 100% of policing that night, because they refused to listen to the prison about overcrowding. No one available to stop a burglary, we’re too busy measuring each other’s dicks. Proves crime isn’t their priority, it’s you respecting their authority, your submission, and their power trips that are.

The prison requested a major crime sweep be delayed due to overcrowding, no room in the jail, but the police ignored them and did it anyway. The Sheriff then prioritized Sheriff prisoners and refused prisoners from the raid, triggering a standoff that nearly became a shootout.

This is how POLICE respond to police. Zero respect, non compliance, lots of “I dare you”, getting their rifles ready, etc. , then they still think they deserve respect and compliance from citizens. They deserve to be treated exactly like this daily until they get their shit together. Disrespectful egotistical assholes, every one there….meaning every single cop in the area.

Trump’s Maralago Home Raided By FBI

newtboy says...

Riiiiight….but all 8 of those Benghazi investigations were serious, apolitical, need to know what happened for the good of the nation cases, right?
Are you saying all those years of “but her emails” despite zero classified info being exposed or involved was just political bs just to keep Clinton from running, or winning?
No?

Then FINDING 15 boxes of stolen documents including top secret documents with a valid warrant looking for them, after Trump failed to produce them in 6 months (found by the fbi in minutes) must be serious…crimes that at a minimum demand Trump be in club fed for life….5 years per classified document, 15 boxes of stolen documents…many classified top secret documents, found in an unsecured basement storage room.

It can’t be purely political BS if they found the stolen top secret classified documents unsecured in his basement, and they did. It can’t be pure BS if the evidence amounts to, let’s be insane and say each box only had 100 pages in it….so 100 pages x 15 boxes= 15000 charges carrying a 5-10 year prison sentence EACH, so a possible 150000 year mandatory sentence. That is what we are talking about here, not that he took home some personal papers, he took home thousands of classified top secret documents he stole, then kept them unsecured in a basement and refused to turn them over for at least 6 months.
It’s a lie there wasn’t notification. It’s a lie that doors were kicked in. It’s a lie that all they needed to do was ask for the documents. It’s a lie that prosecuting crimes committed by a politician (who claims he’s not a politician) is a political act. The FBI director who approved the warrant and raid is a Trump appointee who Trump praised as above reproach until now.

Or can you admit the foaming at the mouth over Clinton was delusional rage and nothing more? (Ps, I despise Clinton). Not that it would in any way indicate the same thing is happening here….she didn’t commit any crimes beyond slightly imperfect judgement…Trump absolutely did without any question whatsoever….he stole classified state secrets and kept classified documents unsecured, both separate crimes….in fact if both are charged, each page has a 15 year mandatory sentence, not just 5.

Trump should not run in 24….felons can’t be president, and he should be in prison or a court room the entire term anyway. I wish he would, it would ensure a Dem win.

BTW, you do understand I’m just a bystander, not controlling any of this, just enjoying the karmic justice, right? I hope it continues, but I’m not trying or keeping up anything.

Just Political BS to ensure Trump does not run in 2024.
Keep trying , Keep it up. It just might work.

Conservatives VS KKK : Spot The Difference

newtboy says...

ROTFLMFAHS!!!

Bongino….what did he say about the ongoing successful raid on Maralago, where Trump previously admitted taking boxes and boxes of top secret classified documents he stole from the whitehouse and kept them unsecured in unlocked, unguarded rooms but refused to turn them over to investigators?
He parroted Trump, saying “Third world bullshit.”. Sorry, but in the third world, they don’t get warrants and wait over a year for disgraced politicians to turn over top secret documents they stole and were directed by the courts to produce. They just murder him and his family and take them.

Courts demanded in 21 that every document be produced for examination and any secret or top secret documents must be returned immediately without copies being made. Trump and his team produced a few pages and claimed they were still looking for the other 15 boxes of classified documents they had misplaced (handed to Russia?).

It should be noted, the FBI has already said they found at least some of those classified documents in this raid and recovered them….meaning not only was the raid by the book, but the stolen property was in fact recovered from Trump’s residence. D’oh!!

Unauthorized removal or retention of classified documents is a federal crime punishable by up to five years in prison per offense. Ask Snowden, or Manning. Trump had over 15 boxes of these stolen secrets….lemme guess…nothing burger, right? But Clinton retaining some sensitive (not secret or classified) documents should be a life sentence.

The only third world bullshit is the disgraced ex president that tried to turn America into a third world dictatorship and the anti American cultists that are still helping him do it.

Democrats are the party of racism.

Meanwhile in California

newtboy says...

Posted 2 days after the ordinance failed to pass.

This follows the ending of “project roomkey” a federal (covid) program that assisted homeless with hotel rooms and more permanent housing, now defunded.
These voucher programs for hotel rooms are nothing new. Forcing businesses to accept them at 2pm for all empty rooms is, not letting them refuse to rent to undesirable (crazy, filthy, drunk/high, loud, with aggressive dogs, etc) tenants is new. Neither stood a chance of passing.

This was a political stunt, likely by the right, never intended to pass. It’s not hard to get enough signatures to get local ordinances on the ballot in Ca. Getting them passed is another thing altogether.

Another “L” bob. Not even worth a downvote, just sad this is what you cling to.

Biden Approval WTF

newtboy says...

Are you really that ignorant? (That’s a rhetorical question, I know you are)
1) watch Argo. There were multiple attempted rescues, starting within days of the revolution.
2) read about Reagan who made a secret, illegal deal with the terroristic Iranians to not release the hostages until after the election to hurt Carter’s chances, then he later sold them weapons in another illegal deal to pay for another secret illegal war with the Contras. If a Democrat did anything near that, he/she would be (rightly) shot as a traitor if not legally then by some nut job….when Cons do it the anti American crimes are ignored and cons celebrate the treason.
3) Also read about the year+ of negotiations by Carter that actually gained their freedom on Jan 20 81. Would have been much sooner without Republican interference. Carter was the one who initially “held” (seized) those $8 billion of Iranian funds, and stopped buying Iranian oil costing them billions more…all legally, unlike the sneaky, illegal, back room collusion with and payoffs to the terrorists Reagan tried, knowingly and intentionally extending the hostage crisis for his personal political gains. The “deal” wasn’t struck on Jan 20…the Iranians delayed the release at Reagan’s request in exchange for promises of special treatment from president Reagan.

Like Biden, Carter actually solved a problem created largely by Republicans despite Republicans doing their utmost to work against America. Gas prices dropped nearly 10% in the last month and continue to drop despite a massive shortage world wide thanks to Russia and Saudi Arabia. Republicans have fought against every effort to lower them, voting against all mitigation efforts in a unified “fuck your gas prices” block.
They even voted against a bill to force oil companies to stop price gouging because it would have dropped prices significantly the day it passed, also helping inflation significantly, and cons REALLY don’t want prices to drop under Biden, certainly not before November.
It’s just like when every Con just voted to protect and keep neo-Nazis, white supremacists, and violent extremists in the military and federal police forces because they don’t want their voters to lose their jobs. Keeping their power is far more important to them than helping the country, and their main methodology is to try to hurt the country then blame the president….odd since they excused the former president from any and all responsibility for his lack of leadership and absolute horrific disaster that was his last year in office, from 1 million dead to -3.5% GDP to millions unemployed to rising inflation to supply chain failures to disastrously ruining the reputation of our elections to dividing the country horrifically to actually trying to overthrow the elected government by force…all for his own personal gain….and you whine that Biden hasn’t fixed everything yet!?

Pretty dishonest for Republicans to do everything in their power to stop any attempted plans on inflation, gas prices, or hostile foreign powers, then blame the president they blocked from fixing the issues they caused. It’s not weak leadership, it’s an anti American party with veto power and a chip on their shoulders willing to hurt the entire nation rather than let Biden (and America) have a “win”.

Now…how did Trump handle it when foreign powers kidnapped and dismembered an American? He covered it up, made excuses, declared the Saudi prince innocent (and Trump was recorded laughing about how he “saved his ass” over that murder)….then his son in law was given a $2 billion payment for future services his company was completely incapable of supplying.

So let’s measure Trump….
Nice guy, no. Moral, no. Ethical, no. Honest, no. Smart, no. Loyal, no. Trustworthy, no.
Fickle to the utmost, yes. Weak leader, yes. Treasonous, yes. Dictatorial, yes. Narcissistic, yes. Criminal, yes. Anti-democracy, yes.
Most American deaths-yes. Worst unemployment, yes. Worst economy, yes. Most domestic terrorism, yes.
Worst president ever by far….unequivocally by every measure. He actually made idiotic GW look benign by comparison.

bobknight33 said:

Weak leader, yes

He failed to get out hostages. I believe 52+ week
He did tried and mission failed. Mission mishap - 6 dead
Finally on his last day, last hours negotiated agreement that included 8 billion bucks of held money.
This issue had a looming cloud over his presidency.

Like Joe Biden>
Failed to control inflation
Failed to do much about gas prices.

The $5BN Mega Resort in the Desert

spawnflagger jokingly says...

if the only way to get there is by jet, how are the resorts going to carbon-offset all of that jet fuel used to get there?

The carved-into-rock hotel might make a good James Bond set, but not sure how many rich Saudis will enjoy climbing a mountain to get to their room (which will likely cost thousands $$ per night)

Stop the video just before it goes into the next one. Turn off any lights in the room. Make the video full screen. Focus on the center of the picture for over 1 minute and it should POP right out at you. Use the same procedure for each successive one. Hope this helps.

Woman Gets Revenge On Her Man

Yeah. If it was that painful / traumatic he would just leave the room. Totally playing it for views.

Revenge for what?
He sure seems complicit here.
There’s no way he feels nothing until they’re done, then is instantly totally awake. His reactions are so over the top…And it didn’t take all that much hair.

Sorry, but it looks staged to me, and badly acted.

Ohio GOP Primary Debate

luxintenebris says...

have to say, that's spot-on.

"adults in the room"?

best curse could imagine would be to cast a spell that these candidates can only argue with reason and logic (turn campaigns into debates on ideas and solutions).

then this show would resemble cctv of a laundry mat's lounge area. nothing being said, and most folk would find themselves watching the dryers than the canidates.

saw this https://tinyurl.com/yu22kfd6 and might be the under-lying reason why these little men are so testy.

Republicans are suffering from Partisan Derangement Syndrome

luxintenebris says...

also, some things to think about...

- we have a naturalized Austrian that can directly compare WWII to today's elephant-in-the-room...https://tinyurl.com/2p8zsj9m

- one of the few Republican leaders that speak to the Russian people (not rooting Putin on)...https://videosift.com/video/A-message-to-the-Russian-people

- self-made (seriously made) millionaire*, that was a governor of a large state - enough to qualify as a nation by itself - who is the closest to the template of St. Reagan alive...and he has much disdain for the GOP.

makes the head reel. an Austrian leader speaking out against fascism. another of the 1937 reasons NOT to support the red.

Greene and Gosar were scheduled speakers and celebrities at a racist white nationalist rally last weekend.
Republicans gave lip service to the idea that racist white nationalism doesn’t belong in the party, but have not censured or reprimanded either for what isn’t their first time courting racist white nationalists, because there clearly and blatantly is a place for racist white nationalists, neo-nazis, and white terrorists in your party….way more room than there is for those concerned with direct attacks against democracy and America and other treason.
Also Wendy Rogers (AZ) at different events. Her Republican Governor supported that by funding her campaign.
You can stop pretending you aren’t racist and fascist, your party has all but given up denying it.
