Every movie on that list has a male main character. Why would they want to have scenes with women talking to each other that don't relate to the main character or his story? If they did, those scenes would be off-topic.
This test does not determine if movies are catering to men or women, it simply determines whether the main character is male or female.


The issue isn't whether or not it caters to anyone, romantic comedies obviously cater to women but they still perpetuate that weak feminine stereotype. The issue is that women are rarely portrayed in movies as actual characters. Men usually (at least in good movies) have multiple defining characteristics while a woman's defining characteristic is her gender. They serve as motivation for men rather than being actual fleshed-out characters themselves. I'm willing to give Braveheart a pass even with the film's existing historical inaccuracies since it's not like women were all that free in the time period.

Also, it's really disingenuous to suggest that the solution to this is to go out and make your own movies. If I don't like the job that Obama's doing, should I go run for president then? If I don't like my car, should I go make my own? No, that obviously ridiculous just as I wouldn't want to go and remake The Dark Knight or something just with my own additions. This video is intended to raise awareness of the issue so that the people who DO make movies may pay attention and change something.

i am so separated from the culture that cares about this that i find the indecent hilarious.

from my very outsider perspective i see it like this:
Beyonce is beautiful lady and it was a nice old fashion song and dance video, so good for her.
Taylor Swift is a cute kid that summed up nearly every teen romantic comedy in a short video, so good for her too.
Kanye seems to be some melodramatic attention whore kid with a hedge row maze for a hair cut. So he's a dick, but predictable, yawn.

this hub-bub reminds me of another controversy recently that i found myself asking "what the fuck is a T-pain?"

If the movie were anything like that I'd pay to see it. That's right, I would pay to see a Sandra god damn Bullock romantic comedy.

Staple of the 90's romantic comedy.

Of all those, the only one I've seen is Ghost Town and I can second the recommendation. The critics seemed a bit unkind to it, but very unreasonably so, as it was a very enjoyable experience for Charms and me. It had quite a few more laughs than your typical romantic comedy and often zags where you expect it to zig. As you might expect, Ricky Gervais is a laugh riot.

A few points:

1. Nobody is doing any nude scene, especially not full frontal. Nobody wants to see computer nerds naked.
2. Kulpims is the resident fluffer, in case anybody just needs a pick-me-up.
3. It is not a romantic comedy, because we couldn't get Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan to resurrect their careers.
4. Blankfist is not allowed within 50 feet of Kulpims' mom, and he knows it. The law is the law.
5. Anybody with no vowels in their username will be killed off within the first ten seconds of their screen time, by a Vanna White impersonator.
6. There will be no bestiality, unless blankfist's mom wants a role. But let her know this isn't Beethoven 5, okay?
7. 90 percent of the people on this site will be extras, because I don't have a clue about most of you.
8. Nobody will be coming of age, coming out of the closet, coming clean or coming to grip with a deep-seated emotional problem. There will be no coming in this movie at all.

I upvoted; nonetheless the cheesiness of this short clip doesn't do the film justice - it's one of the (very) rare (British!) romantic comedies which you are almost guaranteed to like regardless of gender, background or even if you hate Hugh Grant's obnoxious blinking.

Ooooh, I am so gonna connect with this film, I am not kidding you: seemed like half of these scenes have happened to me during the past 6 months or I've had friends whine about these exact situations. This is brilliant - a romantic comedy I want to see!?.. WITH MY WIFE!?! And it actually looks like it's going to be funny!? Who's been messing with the fundamental laws of the Universe?

This my favorite romantic comedy because it is THE romantic comedy. In the 80s they knew how to do it, it was even because the guy and girl both had problems. Today's romantic comedies usually consist of the girl being a bitch and the guy being made to look like an idiot but its still his duty to give up everything for her, ahhh how sweet

Strangely enough, it was one of those movies I initially prejudged and avoided, hearing that it was a "romantic comedy," and I am usually not much for those because they are mostly schlock. My boyfriend, knowing how great it is, made me watch it years ago, and the rest is history. Now it is one of my favorites!
