I do not share your opinion. Provided Bob isn't in-fact a Russian troll, he's still an American.

Pop quiz, which is the best political party?
.
.
.
.
.
.
Trick question, the best party in America is America.

“We’re so glad to see so many of you lovely people here tonight. And we would especially like to welcome all the representatives of Illinois’s law enforcement community that have chosen to join us here in the Palace Hotel Ballroom at this time. We certainly hope you all enjoy the show. And remember, people, that no matter who you are and what you do to live, thrive and survive, there’re still some things that makes us all the same. You. Me. Them. Everybody. Everybody.”

That said,

They'll get their own misery when they feel the policy they helped create begin to affect them. Trust me, it doesn't need help. My dad is scrambling trying to save for his retirement at 65 and scoffs at the idea of the stimulus checks he got, refuses to cash the "biden bucks"

Let me tell you. Jeff Bezos? Mark Zuckerburg? They don't give a shit about moral quandaries when offered free money, they take it, happily.
If you're pulling down millions every year and cook the books a bit, that's "smart." Walk in to a social security office with a baby on your arm a day early, that's "criminal," (almost like stealing).

Do that enough + a bunch of VERY-MUCH-NOT billionaires voting for it and u have the republican party.

-----------------

I also don't care for the malformed logic they practice. Another republican acquaintance of mine called me a "segregationist" because I said trans-athletes should be able to play on the team of their self identified sex.

Whether you agree with me on that or not, me saying that they SHOULD play on an integrated team does NOT make me a segregationist, unless you completely redefine the word.

------------------

Finally, I do agree there is some room for some anger. I don't like it when the GOP or their sycophants go on a "Let's take rights away from someone today, AS A TEAM!"

When the message is the OPPOSITE of "There are still some things that make us all the same," it's infuriating. Because if it can happen to them, it can happen to you.

Take what's happening with their complaints of "cancel culture"
Coca Cola, Disney, etc etc private companies and bakeries

The new and improved supreme court helped establish that private businesses can discriminate against you based on a genuine philosophical or religious belief. Bakery vs the gay couple "TAKE THAT, GAYS!!!"

They didn't realize that that meant ALL businesses could now do that. But again, if it happens to them, it can happen to you.

Bob here is like one of the fans throwing garbage on the field when Jackie Robinson gets up to bat. "WHY DON'T YOU JUST GET YOUR OWN NEGRO -ERR TRANS LEAGUE?"

He truly doesn't know he's being manipulated.

p.s. https://www.npr.org/2018/06/04/605003519/supreme-court-decides-in-favor-of-baker-over-same-sex-couple-in-cake-shop-case

Now, it's easy to point out "LOOK!!! no no no it's not!!! see! it says right here, they CANT just do it if you're not this specific baker." That's not stopping this guy from 6 days ago

Where BLM co founder spends their money

JiggaJonson says...

It's already well established that Bob wants people to be treated unfairly, see the other accounts with almost identical timestamp that sock puppet brigade for him and then see our FAQ.

"Can I create or use more than one VideoSift account?
There is a strict rule of no more than one account per person, please. Abusers of this rule will be permanently ban hammered via IP address. Sorry."

I'd invoke it myself if the site weren't already lacking members.

It's really sick you know? They have these ideas, but it's all summed up with some general structure.

"blah blah blah, and THAT is why black lives don't matter" Idk what you see when you see this interviewer, but she looks like one of the people throwing garbage on the field in that Jackie Robinson movie.

Lost in Space - Official Full Netflix Trailer

jmd says...

I'm a little more interested after the trailer. I like the idea of the robot being an alien, you can go so many ways with that. Also I was wondering when the doctor would show up. My only beef is MOST of this trailer consist of the Robinsons dealing with nothing but events that deal with getting their ship unstuck from nature, in a world or worlds that very much resemble earth. It is just trope after trope with the ship stick in snow..ice..water..sinking..over a cliff. Very little alien life present or much of an alien world.

In fact it is pretty ridiculous for a family who says they are "lost", they seem to have landed on a perfectly good M class planet which are near impossible odds.

Why Should You Read James Joyce's "Ulysses"

dannym3141 says...

I recently re-read this as well as Robinson Crusoe. I find both to be very interesting in that you get an understanding of dominant philosophies of the time, the traditions of life, language and more subtly writing; how all of those developed together and reflected upon each other.

But they are also both incredibly dull. I sort of wish I could read it as someone from that era read it, because I imagine it might be a little like seeing a film with revolutionary use of new film tech like sound or colour for the first time. It might be another old western, but it's engaging with parts of your brain you're not used to using in that particular medium. Whereas we're used to advanced and refined versions of the same thing, because it influenced so many.

Mel Brooks Misses Being Able to Call Gene Wilder

poolcleaner says...

Anne Bancroft, Mel's wife (Mrs. Robinson), was only 73 when she died of cancer. :=(

This picture makes me happy and sad: Mel and Anne

Look at this incredible picture: Mel, Alfred, and Anne

More awesome but sad pics: John and Gilda

The icing on the cake is an interview with Gene wilder on Merv Griffith where he talks about how he dealt with his mother being close to death, how he would try to make her happy by making her literally pee her pants: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IATnW4A_r8U

It's crazy, I binge watched hours and hours of Gene Wilder interviews sometime last year and this video is what stands out to me the most.

And this one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5B3v7OKNvp4

Gene Wilder was such a unique actor!

Also, I just gotta say, everyone has got to heil hitler at least once in public to have truly TRULY lived! It's a nervous tick, mein fuhrer!

Why Obama is one of the most consequential presidents ever

bareboards2 says...

@ChaosEngine.

Yeah. I know. Your last sentence says it all -- he didn't achieve near as much as was hoped for. Hence your disappointment.

From my perspective, I never believed he could do all that was hoped. Because this isn't a dictatorship (thank god, maybe we can survive Trump.) It was clear to me from the beginning that is wasn't possible.

So I wasn't disappointed. I was glad for all that he did manage to get through.

And that is what makes him consequential.

I have my list of things I am pissed at him about for doing -- including the murdering of brown people, including bin Laden. (And I'm pissed at most of the people in this country for cheering state sponsored targeted assassination and ignoring the huge collateral damage of that day and the days that followed.)

History isn't going to judge him on what he promised and couldn't get done. History will judge him on what he actually did. Half-assed heathcare is half an ass more than was managed in over a hundred years. LGBT people aren't disappointed.

And being the first black president -- he'll be in the history books for being that particular breed of person -- the minority who is 10 times better than the ruling majority, who swallows the indignities of prejudice with grace and determination, who rises above the humiliations to become The First. Think Jackie Robinson -- that is what we remember about him, that is the story that has survived. (The recent PBS doc taught me a fuller picture of who he actually was after he survived those brutal first two years in the majors.) That is the story we crave.

He's consequential, all right. Not perfect. Consequential.

lost in space- a tribute to a cult classic

nanrod says...

I'm glad to see I'm not the only one around hear who actually watched this show when it came out. Although not being 8 yrs old (13) I became disillusioned fairly quickly. I was a fan of the comic book version and was disappointed with the changes made to the storyline. I kept watching though, I was waiting for Dr. Robinson or Major West to shoot Zachary Smith. And I had the hots for Penny.
