Biden and the June job reports
*doublepromote good news making Trumpster’s heads explode
*quality leadership, only took 18 months to repair the wrecked economy left by the ex pant pooper in chief. Putting the union back together may be an impossibility, the damage Trump did there seems irreparable.
No doubt, the anti America crowd will find a way to either deny these statistics or do mental gymnastics to say they’re still awful, and tangerine Palpatine would have done much better (despite all evidence to the contrary).
Tesla DESTROYS Q1 Earnings,
D’oh!
Hovering in the low 700s now. So much for this surge. Oh boy indeed. Lol.
Bad news, Ford just announced they give customers a right to repair their own vehicles, unlike Tesla.
Tesla keeps its tech secret, uses proprietary tools they don’t sell, and goes the extra mile to make sure only Tesla service centers can work on a Tesla, allowing them to charge $15000 for repairs that should cost $700 (and do at the few after, aftermarket Tesla repair shops). This is because Tesla is a software company like Apple, and tries to use the same hyper control scheme that Apple does….essentially saying you just rent your Tesla, it’s not really yours to modify or repair.
Ford designed its crate motor, now available for aftermarket projects btw, the same motor in the E-mustang and soon in the e-f150, to be simple to work on with normal mechanics tools. They’ve indicated a willingness to make their systems open source so anyone can fix them. This is going to make Ford a much better choice even if their specs don’t measure up, and it seems they will.
Sorry, @bobknight33, it’s not looking great for your “all in on one stock” plan. So you understand, in order to be a good deal, Tesla stock still needs to drop by 4/5…or down to around $150 +-. That would put its PE ratio around 20….still high, but considered decent these days. 100 PE is just insane.
Rent: Last Week Tonight with John Oliver (HBO)
1)Exactly what in your post was satire? This?….” Dad taught me well and will deal with them according.”? (Now THAT’S satire)
2)Directly on topic…you implied we think your dad must be racist because he’s Republican. I explained. Also, nice you don’t disagree with my explanation, you just incorrectly claim it’s off topic.
3) see #2
4) ? Only a moral and ethical obligation, or to Republicans, no obligation whatsoever. 🤦♂️
5) better get it in writing, yes. Even if your siblings agree, their children might not. You could be setting up a future lawsuit or the dissolution of your family. If everyone agrees, in writing, then good on you…..but as I mentioned, it’s not a real offer to sell because it sounds like the couple couldn’t afford any price. A real offer would be to let them rent to own at maybe a slight rent increase….they might be able to take advantage of that offer.
Edit: 6) If they have no new income, and barely bring in enough to pay the discounted rent, how do you expect them to come up with an extra $5k, +$3500 (and rising) per year, + $100+ per month more…especially with the Republican plan to make the poor pay more taxes, and end social security and Medicare/Medicaid …how will they ever convince a bank they can keep up payments? And they wouldn’t get 6%….wtf man? Do they have perfect credit? That’s prime, they don’t qualify for a fixed loan at prime rates if they need discounted rent….and no bank is going to give 80 year olds a 30 year loan. The highest prime rates were 21%, unlikely in the near future, but rates are skyrocketing. Now, if you carried the loan yourself, you COULD offer those rates, but a bank never would.
If their kids have cash and are willing to gift it to their parents regularly, and if your family carried the discount loan, it could work.
Sure, sounds simple, but reality isn’t that simple, especially if you don’t have a net worth more than the loan. Year one they would need a minimum of $10k extra to do this if your loan numbers were right, and they aren’t from a bank. Year 2-30 they would need $5k more than they spend now….+ all repairs, tax hikes, interest rate hikes, etc. a great deal to be sure, but not feasible for poor elderly people who will likely lose all their income if Republicans regain power. It more than doubles their housing costs year one.
1 no joke just some satire
2 off topic

4 Good deal and a kind landlord. That being said the landlord is under no obligation to rent to anyone under current market value.
5 Siblings all agree to let it go to the renters and the 50 to 60% discount . All I need is a email/ letter stating their agreement.
6 I think they might be able to do this at 5% down ( or zero). The bank will see a 50K equity in the new owners the moment they sign the papers.
For 30 years / fixed / 3500 property tax/year
At 120K @6% about 1200/month
At 60K @6% about 800/month
At 50K @6% about 730/month
Current rent 695/month
IF they / their kids can put down 10% ( 5K) payments drop about 100bucks
This is simple. Buy the house for 1/2 off and put 50K in you pocket at the closing.
The simple tool that can open most US stores
Unless they have intent to use them, or have knowledge that that’s what they’re made for, no? That’s what it says in the law, isn’t it?
“ Every person having upon him or her in his or her possession a picklock, crow, keybit, crowbar, screwdriver, vise grip pliers, water-pump pliers, slidehammer, slim jim, tension bar, lock pick gun, tubular lock pick, bump key, floor-safe door puller, master key, ceramic or porcelain spark plug chips or pieces, or other instrument or tool with intent feloniously to break or enter into any building, railroad car, aircraft, or vessel, trailer coach, or vehicle as defined in the Vehicle Code, or who shall knowingly make or alter, or shall attempt to make or alter, any key or other instrument named above so that the same will fit or open the lock of a building, railroad car, aircraft, vessel, trailer coach, or vehicle as defined in the Vehicle Code, without being requested to do so by some person having the right to open the same, or who shall make, alter, or repair any instrument or thing, knowing or having reason to believe that it is intended to be used in committing a misdemeanor or felony, is guilty of a misdemeanor. ”
I have this opinion, (that police (and some prosecutors) will ascribe intent to anyone in possession of any tools, even those with other uses, so they wouldn’t hesitate to do the same for tools that are clearly purpose built breaking and entering tools having been advertised as such and with no other use,) because I watched a friend be arrested in the 80’s for having a screwdriver and pliers in their backpack that the police called “burglary tools”. He did not have a history of burglary. The case was dropped when they instead charged him with <.5 grams of marijuana for some crumbs found loose in the bottom in his backpack and sent him juvie for 6 months. (I think he was on probation, I know the police wanted to charge him with anything….and did.). I was accused of having lockpicks once because I had picked up a few metal brush bits from a street sweeper in a parking lot and police saw me pick them up, arrested, then released me on site when the supervisor showed up and heard their story.
I think the last sentence of that paragraph puts him in danger, since he clearly has reason to believe at least some of the burglary tools he sells to the public are going to be used criminally.
I don’t want to see you give someone advice that could get them in serious trouble, I know you would feel terrible. You might be correct, technically without intent to commit a crime they’re legal to own, but in reality police and prosecutors decide your intent and I don’t trust them one whit.
My understanding is that it is legal for anyone to purchase and possess lock picking tools. Seller does have to obtain info regarding purchaser, but just basic stuff.
Here are the California codes regarding such tools.

Rebuilding the Oroville Dam Spillway | Practical Engineering
*quality engineering, sadly only required because the original contractors cut corners and no regulators caught it before it failed. IMO, the companies that built it should be paying that $1 billion price tag. They’re the ones who used low quality concrete, left out literally tons of rebar, and decided a soft dirt emergency spillway on an earthen dam was good enough.
This is why we need a $3 trillion infrastructure bill. Really, we likely need ten times that. We haven’t invested in infrastructure for decades.
Had there been regular real inspections they likely would have noticed the problem when repairs only cost $100 million. There are literally thousands of dams in America with similar, or worse issues, and no money to even properly inspect them, much less fix them before they fail. Waiting for them to fail costs at least 10 times what pre-failure repairs cost, but we only care after they fail.
Thanks Manchin, our nation is crumbling thanks to you joining the obstructionist Republican Party, someone needs to burn his yacht with his family on board while he watches, then burn him in his mansion and distribute his hundreds of millions back to the state he stole it from.
Edit: Btw- Goldman Sacks has revised their 2022 estimate for gdp based on Manchin killing the infrastructure bill from over 3% to barely 2%. >$200 BILLION just gone with his vote against America. This as Manchin says “the Democrats aught to push me into the Republican Party”, but you’re already there, Joe. They aught to deny you funding and primary you, but not hand another seat to Republicans as you suggest, traitor. They really aught to strip you of all assignments, all funding, all security, and start broadcasting your location 24/7 until you are gone. If you ask me, they aught to drop you feet first in a slow meat grinder and make a day of it, televised. Then they aught to forced feed you to your family before taking every dime they have and denying them any assistance from anywhere. That’s what aught to happen to skidmarks like you.

Lol. Yeah, in your own mind. You can’t write a single sentence without proving that wrong by sounding like a first year English student or worse. You not smart guy…you unsmart guy. Unsmart guy who like lies and liars and hate factses.
Sweet zombie Jebus, you moron.
Bob, they went on TV and said it. You don’t even have to read, just not hide your head in the sand…sadly that’s still too much to ask of you. God forbid you actually know what the party you blindly support is planning.

Historic Unemployment levels are way down. Historically negative GDP now up. My portfolio went up >25% in 6 months, under Trump it went down over 10% in 4 years. I have a diverse portfolio. Biden got serious funding for real infrastructure repair, not some vague promise of infrastructure week used as a distraction from innumerable scandals but never actually happening, not even for a week. Our international standing is on the rise after falling like a stone under Trump. Biden is doing fine…much better than Trump on his best day. Expectations are low with Republican obstruction a given and some “Democrats” being Republicans in practice.
Biden didn’t attempt a democracy ending coup. Trump did. That alone means Biden wins the “good job” medal 100-0.
Biden’s votes are all valid, Trump has dozens of voters caught voting more than once, and who knows how many not caught. There was voter fraud, 100% Republican voter fraud. How many senators won by cheating. If I used your (lack of any) metric, I would say every Republican representative is invalid and should be removed and jailed. D’oh!
Trump was a mess….an unmitigated failure at everything he tried. He inherited a healthy economy and nation, he left a recession, pandemic, and deep, DEEP division that already tried to destroy American democracy based on his lies.
Trump’s legacy is 3/4 million dead, economy in shambles, allies turning away, and the union crumbling…what you call an unmitigated success.
Edit: some light reading, since inflation is so important to you now…keep in mind the fed “created” over $4.5 trillion in 2020 alone to pay for Trump’s failures. (A dollar devaluation equating to 25% inflation long term)
https://money.cnn.com/2016/05/11/news/economy/donald-trump-print-money/
I a fairly smart guy but I do not know the inner thinking of the party nor am I on their inner circle mailing list.
That being said WE do know that Biden is not doing a good job on any front, and the Democrat party is a mess. This last year has been a failure.
The Power Grid: Last Week Tonight with John Oliver (HBO)
It was pretty disappointing that they didn’t include small generators in these equations. My solar is on my roof, it only uses transmission lines when I make more than I use, and then it stays local. Same thing with small home wind turbines and micro hydro. All these non centralized generation methods are incredibly better than huge farms IMO.
1) No transmission needed, power is generated and used locally.
2) multiple generation methods are tied together, so when it’s dark and solar doesn’t produce, wind and micro hydro are still available vs giant single method “farms”.
3) decentralizing power generation hardens the entire grid, and individual adoptors, against infrastructure attacks. (That alone should sway the climate change denying nationalist crowd to buy in if they could still consider thoughts, sadly they can’t .)
4) barring an emp, the entire grid could not go down and power outages would be limited to tiny areas and be easily repaired in the future.
PFAS: Last Week Tonight with John Oliver (HBO)
Nonsense. Pre industrial agriculture wasn’t very damaging in most cases…and when it was it was on a minuscule scale compared to industrial agriculture.
Pre industrial building wasn’t excessively environmentally damaging in most cases, certainly not to the point where it endangered the planet or it’s atmosphere.
It's utterly ridiculous hyperbole to say we have to be cavemen to not destroy our environment. We don't even have to revert to pre industrial methods, we just have to be responsible with our actions and lower the population massively. With minor exceptions, pre industrial farming caused little to no permanent damage, and it was almost all easily repairable damage. (With a few exceptions like Rapa Nui that may not have been over farming but cultural damage, we aren't exactly certain what happened there).
I eat berries now, don't you? I grow raspberries, blackberries, black raspberries, blueberries, strawberries, and Tay berries myself. People would be healthier if they ate berries, and they're tasty too. What?!
Yes, around 7 billion need to die (without procreating first). Better than all 9 billion.
There’s a huge difference between being occasionally deadly and so insanely toxic we destroy our own planet in under 200 years to the point where our own existence is seriously threatened.
Edit: toxicity levels matter as much as exposure levels. Cavemen impacted their environment at levels well below sustainability (mostly….the idea they killed the mammoths or mastodons off by hunting is, I believe, a myth….natural environmental changes seem much more likely to be the major influence in their extinction.). Per capita, modern humans have a much larger, more detrimental footprint than premodern humans, exponentially larger….and there’s like a hundred thousand times as many of us (or more) too. We need to reverse both those trends drastically if we are to survive long term.
Yes, progress includes risk, but risk can be managed, minimized, and not taken when it’s a risk of total destruction. We totally ignore risk if there’s profit involved.
This is a night time comedy show, not a science class. I think you expect WAY too much. It points out that there is a problem, it doesn’t have the time, or the audience to delve into the intricate chemical processes involved in the manufacture, use, and disposal of them. It touched on them, and more importantly pointed out how they’ve been flushed into the environment Willy nilly by almost everyone who manufacturers with them.
By that logic, Newt, its back to caves and eating berries for everyone. And 7 billion people need to die to make planet Earth sustainable.
Everything civilization does is toxic in some way. Even living in caves was deadly, ask the Mammoths.
I like how youre taking everything responsibly but in this case you might be lumping too many things into one problem. If we strive for any progress at all we have to take risks.
Maybe the consensus will be that we cant handle the production problems and need to ban the poly stuff, but this video was not the compelling analysis that would even push me in that direction.
Afghanistan: Last Week Tonight with John Oliver (HBO)
...and why is that necessary? are Democrats supposed to defend anything any party member does? right or wrong? it's too weird - acting as if this is some 'reality show'?
if anything, there is little connection between what americans, and what the Rs & Ds, wanted or signed up for.
it's a paradox that in the US we have wanted better systems for education, health, or elections that reflexed our true needs...and the government thought they could do it there...while we are STILL waiting to get it here?!!
dude, the truth is what matters. maybe alternative reality is your gig, but some of us rather deal in the IS and not blind faith.
If...and that is a huge 'if'...you want some real light on the subject...try this;

Lake Oroville Drought, California
know and agree with that feeling. did a quick search and the story is remarkably similar to this article...
https://www.kqed.org/news/11882312/lake-oroville-shows-the-shocking-face-of-californias-drought
...and is not Oroville is also the same damn dam that had a problem w/their spillway structure collapsing recently?

[at least this link is 'human' generated]
So not a fun job, i.e. Oroville OverLord. Just think of he/she when you're getting Kind of Blue. Miles of problems for them. Whether the weather goes all rain or no rain, there's no 'So What' for them. Only hope for it to go Blue to Green so it isn't All Blues.
Upside: while it's dry the spillway is being repaired.
Downside: it may not be necessary
[...and the job could lead to empty hours of boredom, only to fall to the temptation of getting the drawing crayons out to do Flamenco Sketches; dreaming where they could be, and what they could be doing.]
What is with these weird generated news stories using text-to-speech? It feels icky taking them at face value. The images could be total bunk since there are no attributions or anything.
I'm not suggesting the drought is fake, I'm just saying this is one of the worst sources that can be posted.
How Police Protect And Serve
“This family”?
This isn’t one case, Bob. It’s department policy and has been for a long time.
Agreed, it SHOULD be a big payday for these families… unfortunately that’s at taxpayer, not the police’s pension fund’s, expense….but so far in the years of this practice if the victims got anything it doesn’t seem to have payed enough to get the local government to stop it, or enough to excuse blatant and rampant abusive harassment of law abiding citizens as standard policy, even a revenue generator.
How much is the daily harassment of your children, wife, co workers, family, friends, and business contacts at their work and in their homes late at night for years by dozens of aggressive armed men trespassing and peeping in windows and threatening arrest and continued harassment if they can’t come inside to “talk” at 3 am, all because they know you….without you ever being convicted of a crime….worth?….guaranteed none of the victims of this policy have been paid that much.
It is nice to know you at least say you don’t support DeSantis style policing…so I guess you don’t support his candidacy?
Also interesting you love to dismiss constant violent civil rights violations like this by just claiming the victims will get a huge settlement and that makes it ok (most don’t, police have immunity from all but the absolute worst illegal violations, they don’t even pay to repair the doors they destroy breaking in homes with no warrant or the pets they kill while trespassing and spying on citizens….not even for the innocent people they murder when breaking into their homes at 3 am, and when they are brought to account, they often fight cases for decades first, forcing the victims to sue them over and over and over and over....expensive lawsuits against city hall that most victims can't afford to start)….but when it’s a public health issue where they’re considering forcing you to not become a biological viral lab, stopping you from mutating new viruses to release in America, suddenly your rights to be dangerously idiotic and anti science are sacrosanct, no amount of money could make up for a little ouchie, fuck those other people you kill and disable.
Anti vaxers should not only be denied insurance, but also be forced to pay for treatment of their victims.
Looks like a big fucking pay day for this family.
Who else but @newtboy to post this.

Car makers sue to UNDO Right to Repair in Massachusetts
This is why I prefer M$ and Samsung over Apple.
Had fun replacing a Mercedes car key. Luckily the van is old so it only took a semi-underground repair shop that connects to a semi-underground server in Turkey (!) to get the key for an equivalent sum of 200$. The unprogrammed key sells for 10$ from China. Mercedes sells a new key for 600$. The programming itself takes minutes.
Now obviously someone in Turkey has the code to get into the van. So my security is compromised. But my anger at corporate bullshit is quelled slightly. If I ever get raped in a dark parking lot at least I will know it saved me 400$.
What Really Happened at the Hernando de Soto Bridge?
Yeah, he did touch on the need for multi-person team to do all critical inspections, and a culture/policy failure that led to this physical failure. At least no one was hurt (yet), and hopefully that culture will change as a result of the massive effects of closure and cost to repair.
"Those responsible have been sacked." was just a Monty Python reference- I didn't mean to imply more than 1 person was fired (but probably should be more)
From what the video says, just one person responsible for inspection has been sacked. They always go after the lowest-ranking person, don't they?
When in fact, if it's possible for one person's mistake, laziness or incompetence to destroy your bridge and kill members of the public, your entire organization is at fault. You have to wonder if it's one of those "so to save money, they fired the night watchman" situations.
"Mostly Fair" Media
On Jan 6,
How many forced entries to federal buildings that you declared terroristic behavior when black people tried it? Thousands.
How many violent physical attacks on police with weapons that you called terrorism when black people did it? Hundreds to thousands.
How many deaths? 5+.
How many Molotov cocktails on scene fortunately stopped from being used to burn the capitol? Over a dozen.
How many live explosives planted as deadly distractions? Sounds like over a dozen.
What's the overall cost of the Trump insurrection failure? Just repairs and the deployment of the national guard cost over $550 million for one incident. We won't know the full cost for years if ever. Yes, the summer riots full cost including troop and police deployment is near $2 BILLION, but remember 1/2 of that is right wing counter protesters, and 1/4 was not BLM but opportunists using rallies as cover to riot, so BLM's share of the damages all summer is near $500 million...less that the Jan 6th riot.
Jan 6th was exactly like that. Armed treasonous traitors with guns, knives, mace, spears, handcuff/ziptie restraints, teasers, clubs, firebombs, and explosives planning to murder congress are more dangerous, only an ignorant uneducated racist moron could disagree.
1/2 the violence and damage of summer 2020 was perpetrated AGAINST BLM by right wing groups like proud boys and Boogaloo boys that got caught, so stupid they carried their plans for more terrorism they would blame on BLM with them when they murdered police and set off bombs, another >1/4 were by people rioting near but not with BLM, leaving 1/4 at most BLM and it's supporters, 1/2 the amount right wingers did trying to frame BLM, unequivocally and verifiably.
Such sad, factless arguments you make these days. Those sweet sweet snowflake tears must be blinding you.
How many burning of buildings,
cars and businesses .
how many shootings and deaths
Jan 6 has nothing like that.
BLM and Antifa are more dangerous.
