The best thing about Outrun 2006 is not driving anywhere!

Outrun has got to be one of the best racing games ever...
original outrun, yes. but not this 2006 wreck!

No way, that one was horrid too.... Only cool part about it is that when you crashed the chick bounces 3 times higher than the height of the flipping car and then lands plainly on her ass.

Grateful Kid Gets Xbox 360 And Halo

you only play online if you subscribe to gold, and odds are they're not going to do that.
Besides, it's up to the parents to decide that. I was playing Tenchu when I was like 10/11, and that's one of the goriest videogames of the era, and (As far as you're all concerned) i'm not a mass murderer.
Now.. as for getting a PC, there's a lot less for a kid his age to do on a PC really. There's games for like 3-10 year olds, and then games for 16+ year olds, but not a lot in between. A console is a great starter platform for any gamer of any age. Complete content control by the parents, it's got a built in feature that you can set to only allow your kids to play X-amount of time a day, and, for the most part, they've got a lot more kid friendly games (Viva pinata, Marvel games, all the lego games etc.)
This kid.. Seeing him warms my heart. That's one appreciative little guy. and from the sounds of it, he's earned it. Sounds like he's had some hospital trouble in the past, and who knows, maybe that's why he's so concerned they bought it, because they probably had to pay medical expenses in the past and he'd know how much it would cost. Power to the kid, Enjoy it

surly he is to young to be playing a game that involves blowing the shit out of everything and swearing at people online?
also although im sure an x box is gr8 fun he would have done so better having a pc, that way he can play games but also learn with it and not just have his brain fall out.

I started on an Atari and c64 when i was under 10 years old , from 13 i had a pc , maby if i had had a game console i would have lernt far less .

on pc there are a plithora of games that fit all age ranges plenty of very good games , the only stuff a console has for games over pc are third person platform/ shooter games / arcade racing games.

consoles are really good in terms of shove it on and it works , but it wont really contribute to making you understand things better.

It would be interesting if you had a non brain washed kid and had a Pc and 360/ps3 infront of them for cuple of years which one they would use the most .

I think a console is good to have if you already have a pc , but if you only had to have one id have a pc every time.

Its far more enjoyable watching videos, making music , making games , making art , editing photographs , playing casual games , playing flahs games , playing hl games , playing driving , flight sims.

than grinding through the majorty of console games that are for the most part recycled garbage.
dont get me wrong plenty of good console games out there that are not on pc , i just think the lack of bing able to be creative and only play games on it.

Zero Punctuation: Halo Wars

Krupo says...

I declare *Asian on this vid, you know why Zifnab, the clincher. YES.

Summed up my feelings about all those RTS missions with ridiculous timers. Heck, even when there *IS* a good reason to rush here or there I'm annoyed by it. I'm here to have some fun, not beat a stupid clock. I would play a racing game if I want that.

Which is why I turn off timed battles when I play single player Total War games for that matter too.

11. The most times I've ever seen a film theatrically was Punch Drunk Love (seven times).

12. I've been playing videogames since the Atari, and would definitely call myself a gamer, though I've probably only finished maybe 20 or so games all the way through.

13. I am way more of an introvert than I'd like to be (ie. I'm distressingly shy).

Zero Punctuation: Mirrors Edge

13435 says...

I think that saying 'this game has eight hours of gameplay' would be like me going out and buying a racing game with a story mode, playing through the story mode and declaring the story mode to be the entirety of gameplay.

Much like racing games Mirror's Edge is about moving fast, much like racing games it also possesses a time trial mode as well as a story mode. The time trial mode is one of the best elements of the game, combining the innovative gameplay mechanics of Mirror's Edge with the classic mechanics of racing games, such as timing, track memorization, alternate paths, etc. The first time trial saw me going from five minutes to 53 seconds, a good five seconds too slow to make the fastest world time, which is another brilliant concept. Something about having the world's best time dangling a mere five seconds ahead of you every time you finish the course drives you to go right back into that time trial to go for the gold.

The main story line has a number of terrible or frustrating moments in it, but it also reaches amazing heights where things just click. Your grip on your controller will grow slack, it will tumble from your hands, and you will say 'I can't believe I just did that'. That being said, the terrible moments can cause the controller to be flung from your body in rage, but the innovation visible in the game has been enough for most of the people I know who have played the game forgive it most of its drawbacks.

Is it a fantastic game? No. Is it a terrible one? Certainly not. Is it worth spending the $60.00? Not quite, but maybe $50.00.

Top 10 Most Difficult Games

AnimalsForCrackers says...

TMNT was hard because it was horridly designed. Yep, Ikaruga was on the DC first, not surprised GT missed that. DMC3? Shinobi on the PS2? Don't these games have to qualify as being good, too? In that case, Dragon's Lair for the NES is the hardest game ever! F-Zero GX was a pleasant surprise, as far as racing games go, I agree. Ghosts'n'Goblins is the name of the series. Ghouls followed later, not a series. Ninja Gaiden, nuff said. Surprised there was no Contra 4, it is 2d-schmup bliss (Contra/Super C are unlockables!) with a difficulty so manly you have to shave after playing. Though this looks like an older GT countdown, based on the look.

GOT GAMES? (Blog Entry by eric3579)

JAPR says...

Dude, that's tight. We used to have a considerable stash of NES games and SNES games, but my stupid dad got rid of a lot of them for some crappy PS2 racing game. UGH. He also lost our Zelda II, which pissed me off to no end. I love the old consoles.

Quake deathmatch with a wraparound screen: awesomeness

Quboid says...

FPS isn't the sort of game I'd see it as being ideal for. I'd love something like this for Flight Simulator, just build a cockpit in the middle and you're good to go. It wouldn't need to be much either, once you have the monitor set up working, it would cost less than a grand to get an acceptable cockpit - which has got to be chicken feed compared to the cost of this! (The cost of a system to run FSX at that resolution is terrifying enough!)

I think this is really best for games that separate view angle from main body angle (by Body angle, I mean what the player controls, be it a human body or an aircraft, tank, mech-warrior or whatever). Quake does not, were you look, your whole body faces, but in FSX, the pilot's head can be turned separately from the plane's direction so the cockpit can be stationary inside the monitor loop and to look out the left cockpit window, you look to your left and see the in-game cockpit trimmings and view outside. There are quite a few games which have this separation of view angle and movement angle, all realistic flight sims, detailed racing games, Armoured Assault is a shooter but it has this separation and it would be ideal. I guess it's useful in the same games as TrackIR is, although unlike TrackIR, this probably wouldn't suck. By keeping the body controls as they are (joystick or yoke for FSX) and virtually removing all head movement controls, you'll have a much more immersive game. In flight sims you can always get disoriented when screwing with the view angle controls, with this you have the small factor of your neck being twisted to keep your brain under control.

Awesome stuff, bad choice of software to show it off. Give me Flight Simulator X on this for a reasonable price and I'll bite. It wouldn't even need to be 360 degrees, about 240 would be enough as behind, you only see the back of the cockpit or the passenger area.

TV still has no f*cking idea how games work

deedub81 says...

That was a stupid clip.

But, an xbox is a computer and you can manipulate what happens when you play a game. You can store files onto it, and program it to do what ever you want. You can modify it so that your car will fly on a racing game or the console will display a passcode when you get passed a certain level.
