I just picked up this book this weekend, currently on page 83! His description of that walk doesn't exactly do it justice. A very interesting read, nonetheless.

I think you might be surprised. Adam Smith was, at the time of his life, very much opposed to slavery and colonization. He also favored high wages for the poor, and equated lowly porters equal to philosophers.
