Be a Proud Liberal (The West Wing)

whynow11 Gets His Probie P!!! (Parody Talk Post)

dystopianfuturetoday says...

Joe, if you don't like being called on your bullshit, then stop spewing bullshit. It's really that simple.

In case you haven't guessed, bullying female sifters is reason your stock value on this site has fallen so low. Bullying is an obvious no-no, joe. If you fail to treat others with respect, expect response in kind.

Also, stop being a curmudgeon. Issy is indeed cat queen of the sift - not entirely sure why you find that threatening -, but who appointed you chief of the fun police. You travel from page to page, whining about meaningless bullshit, and when people call you on it, you mourn the passing of your salad days on the sift. Do you realize how sad that sounds?

Lemme tell ya what, while those olden days were more tight-nit and intimate, the present sift is a fuck of a lot funnier, and the political commentary has never been better or more spirited (with all due respect to Farhad's truly excellent and thoughtful commentary). I get the feeling that you are bitter; that you feel your seniority should account for more. Your seniority means nothing joe, just as my (sophomority?) means nothing. You need to earn your respect just like everyone else.

Another point of contention is your steady flow of shrill invective aimed at Dag and the administration, without ever having contributed a cent to this site. Freeloading is the word for that.

I do remember a time when you had a sense of humor. I liked that joe and would like to see him return. I'm not one to carry grudges, and I'm more than happy to put all of this behind us if you wish, so for the time being, I'll respect your request and turn it down a notch.

Penn Says - Disagreeing Doesn't Make You...

8217 says...

The pictures of chubby semi-nude little boys on the wall really add a certain Je ne sais quoi to his political commentary.

He makes a good point though, of course. People on both ends of the spectrum, whether it's political, religious, or even just a group of people arguing over which toppings to order on the pizza, often vilify their opponents and their opinions instead of genuinely disagreeing or debating with them. Too often we hear some variation of "you're stupid" or "you're evil" as a rebuttal instead of "you're wrong". There are indeed people in the world who are stupid and/or evil, but most of those accused are simply wrong.

Bill Moyers Interviews Jeremiah Wright (watch this) (Religion Talk Post)

choggie says...

Dag....dystop??...I am a simple man with very simple solutions to complex problems.....
political commentary can be summed up with an analogesic reference...

ever see the penguins during mating season, all tittering and shouting together in unison????

That jab at Moyers was a non-sequitur to test the resolve of the blogger-can he stay on topic when a wrench is thrown in.....
No-accusatory language is met with questioning the veracity of said accusor's entire premise, that being that these candidates, this election cycle, and the entire system, is in fucking retrograde, and that those who discuss their part in it, are fools, putties, cowards and imbeciles-(check mirror)

I'm not a fucking idiot, dystop-America, nay, the world,is being fist-fucked, and her people follow in lock-step to their own demise....

Obama is an asshole
Wright is an asshole
Moyers is a cunt

oh and dystop, as silly fun as your capper was, I never want to be accused of being able to discuss politics as would be acceptable in some circle-jerk like Meet the Press.....I'd rather eat skunk and fuck a cousin.....

Thanks Choggie for your valiant attempt at political commentary. I know it's not your forte, but an A for effort all the same. If I need a recipe on how to cook day old skunk or how to seduce a cousin, I'll let you know.

Are you ticklish? I'm ticklish right here.

Profound Incompetence

Intro to M*A*S*H the Classic Television Series

Memorare says...

yup it was an anti-war and particularly anti-Vietnam political commentary disguised as a Korean Conflict serio-comedy. Wonder if anybody would dare to do the same today about Iraq.

Jon Stewart on Bill Moyer's Journal - Full

b-money says...

I'd certainly hate to lose the Daily Show for anything, but in some ways I really wish Jon Stewart would have an outlet for serious political commentary. I wonder though if it's the satirical slant of his show that keeps him from becoming bitter (i.e. Keith Olbermann). This country desperately needs the viewpoint of someone logical and intelligent that can talk candidly about events without becoming preachy and antagonistic.

West Bank Story Trailer- Oscar Short Film Winner

raven says...

Actually, I saw the whole thing at a local screening today. When it first started I groaned, because A) I really dislike musicals, B) In particular I really dislike west side story, C) The concept really seemed awful at first glance... then they started in one the whole Hummus Hut vs Kosher King subplot (which is not really apparent in this trailer) and I was won over. I found it incredibly funny and irreverent as both a political commentary and as a send up of all the worst aspects of musical theater.

Bill Clinton Tries to Kill Santa Claus

pallen says...

Didn't Bill O'Reilly just go on a rant about using kids for political commentary? Isn't this child abuse by his definition?

Upvote, since it's funny. But Fox News has some really serious problems with logic and consistency.

Jesse Owens in 1936 Olympics - 100m Heats and Race

silvercord says...

This vid is absolutely fascinating. Most know the story of Jesse Owens putting it on the rest of the world in front of Hitler. Here, without political commentary, is some great documentary footage of the 100m race.

Watch for the runners digging their own starting blocks , the starters' hilarious exasperation with the false start and Jesse Owens running away from the field like he's in a race with a bunch of school kids.

It's hard to believe this was 70 years ago this year.

Why do people go away? (Sift Talk Post)

Farhad2000 says...

I been wondering the same... softly caressing his profile...

I don't think he left because of the political commentary. He got the 100 Star and go out to escape from LA once more, or New York, depending on which had the better tickets.

Hopefully he will surface soon.
