I can't believe I've been here for nearly four years and I'm just sifting this scene now. Such a great scene. Philip Seymour Hoffman should have been nominated for an Oscar for this scene alone.

@Matthu

So, after putting on my detective hat and going through advanced searches for a while (can you tell it's a Saturday and I'm happy to be at work?) here are the precedents I discovered.

Videos of the exact same event taken from different angles (same audio)

Wind Turbine Self-Destructing
http://www.videosift.com/video/Windmill-Destroyed-By-Wind (original)
http://videosift.com/video/Wind-turbine-self-destructs (potential dupe)

In this case the majority (6-4) barely decided it was not a dupe and it stayed.

Window Adjusts Lighting
http://videosift.com/video/Philips-Daylight-Window-Concept-Presentation (original)
http://www.videosift.com/video/Ambient-window-adjusts-lighting-hue-and-patterns (potential dupe)

In this case, kronosposeidon conceded the extra camera angles added nothing and left it up to Farhad2000 whether to declare it a dupe or not. Farhad apparently graciously decided not to.

Mythbusters paint the Mona Lisa with Paintballs
http://videosift.com/video/MythBusters-CPU-vs-GPU-or-Paintball-Cannons-are-Cool (original)
http://videosift.com/video/Mythbusters-Paint-the-Mona-Lisa-with-Paintballs (potential dupe)

In this case, the original garnered far more votes than the dupe, so there wasn't much controversy. Consensus seems to be that it is a dupe. However, to this day it remains Sifted.

Mentos and Diet Coke Explosion
http://www.videosift.com/video/Record-breaking-Mentos-and-Diet-Coke-Explosions (not sure)
http://videosift.com/video/Mentos-and-Coke-Light-World-Record-Attempt (not sure)

In this case, Maatc and Ant came to an amicable agreement in which they agreed to put links to each others' videos in the descriptions.

Suggestion

Precedent seems to be that the same event captured with different angles but containing the same audio is not a dupe. However, precedent also seems to suggest that most Sifters are gracious to each other and try to spread the votes around fairly. So, maybe each of you could put a link to each others' vids in your description and hopefully people who vote for one will go and vote for the other. Sound fair?

Ricky Gervais' Extremely Uncomfortable Golden Globes Monolog

Sagemind says...

I found Ricky to be very funny, witty, topical and on the ball.

I don't know where the negative reports are coming from, they are all over the internet but all I can see is headline-hungry columnists who are jumping on the bandwagon in a smear-campaign.

Yes, Ricky Roasted a bunch of Stars, most of which I saw laughing as he joked.
The example I posted above enforces my point. The column tries to come off as if Philip Berk is upset at the performance but in fact, Phillip seems (to me) to be defending the performance, at least a little bit.

The columnist even leaves a few words out of the quote to make it sound negative, which in fact it wasn't.

I'm not saying someone couldn't be offended, I'm just saying (so far) I haven't found any actual (complete) quotes from the actors themselves condemning Ricky for his sense, or lack of humor.

"Grain of Salt" when the tabloids get involved, I suppose!

Ricky Gervais' Extremely Uncomfortable Golden Globes Monolog

Golden Globes exec: Ricky Gervais "crossed the line" - "But That's Ricky!"
Interview by: Bryan Alexander

LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - Add Hollywood Foreign Press Association president Philip Berk to the chorus of those who believe that Ricky Gervais went too far as host of the Golden Globes on Sunday night.

The head of the group responsible for the awards show says that while he felt the show itself was "terrific," he too felt that Gervais' jokes about specific celebrities were too much.

"He definitely crossed the line," Berk told The Hollywood Reporter. "And some of the things were totally unacceptable. But that's Ricky."

"Any of the references to individuals is certainly not something the Hollywood Foreign Press condones," he added.

Robert Downey Jr. - the butt of one of Gervais' jokes - said the show was "hugely mean-spirited with mildly sinister undertones."

Gervais went after Berk personally with this joke when introducing him saying, "I just had to help him off the toilet and pop his teeth in."

While Berk traditionally vets every word of the Globes' script, he says that Gervais does not allow that pre-show scrutiny as host. "That's not how Ricky works," he said.

"I had absolutely no idea what Ricky was going to say so anything I heard was at the same time you heard it," Berk said. "When you hire Ricky Gervais, you expect the unexpected."

As for widespread rumors that Gervais was lectured during the show or kept from reappearing at key moments, Berk dismissed them as "ridiculous."

"It was always planned that in the section of important awards he was not going to be part of (the show)," says Berk. "He was never called on the carpet, or given a warning or anything else."

Berk would not comment whether he would recommend to the membership to have Gervais back next year as host.

Jennifer Lopez is stealing your soul (Blog Entry by Sarzy)

kronosposeidon says...

And of course, she's looking at the camera. Such a narcissist.

Remember about five or ten years ago when she was on the cover of every goddamn magazine even remotely related to entertainment? I'm sure if Popular Mechanics had asked her to be on the cover she would have done it, provided they picked her up in a limo, supplied Evian water, brought her trainer, catered truffles, pâté de fois gras, and snake urine soup, let her bring tamarin monkeys, wove a carpet made from baby hair for her to walk on, commissioned Philip Glass to write a symphony in her honor, bought her the Yankees, made her pope, killed Ben Affleck, and gave her a ride home on the space shuttle.
