Autostadt: Volkswagens Glass Storage Silos

>> ^EMPIRE:

when you say "everything they build" do you mean that plant specifically or VW in general?

VW in general, at least in this country. Golf and Polo are borderline, but the rest ... adjusted for inflation, wages in Germany are on average 5.9% below the level of 1991. Can't afford a VW on that kind of dough, so it's Japanese/Korean/Romanian cars all the way.

Thanks for the correction.

In reply to this comment by radx:
The clip in the description is quite unrelated. Those delivery towers of VW in Wolfsburg are not parking garages, they are storage silos for recently produced cars.

Both silos are connected to the production facility via an underground tunnel, and if you decide to pick up your recently purchased car yourself, they'll give you a tour, a meal, the works. Then you get to see your car picked up by the robot arm and delivered to you on the ground floor without having driven a single mile.

It's quite impressive, actually. Just like the price tag on everything they build.

If this were to happen in Finland or something, THEN I'd say "wow wow and double wow." But, to quote the parking garage attendant from Ferris Bueller's Day Off, what country do you think this is?

We'll see how much they'll affect things in the long run. Granted there are some blatant racists in there, and especially in their voters, but at least on surface the party seems to criticize the current way the government handles immigration, rather than trying to outright ban people from entering. Depending on how much and in what ways they want to revise things could either turn out horrible or be the best thing to happen in Finnish politics for a long time. We'll see.

Sorry, where's the part in this article that reports of a Finnish airline pilot refusing service to a pair of Imams? As promised, if it's there (and I merely failed to see it), I'll be the first to say "wow wow and double wow".

Golly, you sure showed me.

QI - How to reduce your ecological footprint

Ah, here's a nice debunking of the dog vs SUV claim:
http://www.grist.org/article/dogs-vs.-suvs

Also, Peroxide, are you being intellectually honest with yourself when you list all of the collateral expenditures of dog food manufacturing and shipping and not do the same for cars? The environmental impact of roads, bridges, car dealerships, quickly lubes, parking garages, the auto insurance industry, hospitals and funeral homes for the 40 thousand that die in car accidents each year, etc...

Louis CK - Being Single

The part about the 9 dudes in striped button ups that want to get fucked with one short dude following closely behind instantly brought a mental picture of Boston. I didn't even know he was from Boston. But, yeah, that pretty much describes all I saw in Boston when I lived there for 9 months... and the part about cum dripping from their eyes and beating up strangers rang a bell too.

I remember my friends and I would go watch the guidos beat eachother up in front of some club that had a three story parking garage across the street from it. It never disappointed, 2am, people started coming out - people would get run over by cars, packs of jock, guido, frat boys would start throwing down in the middle of the street kicking someone in the head repeatedly as their bimbo girls screamed and flailed around in their mini-skirts. It was like Thunderdome for Northeastern. Boston sucks but Jamaica Plain, Cambridge were aight.

CNN Fake Gulf War Newscast

joedirt says...

I dunno how fake this is at 2:18 clearly you can hear the street broadcast and he is asking if it is all clear. Also he does make jokes about "this country".

Check out 1:31... It definitely isn't a blue screen. It is either an entire set, or probably the roof of a hotel or parking garage. Look at the little ladder thing behind the director and you can clearly the the hotel windows. Also, 1:31 appears to be a nighttime shoot, whereas the broadcast TV footage appears to be a daytime, hence more detail from the building.

At 1:36 you can see a motherfucking satellite dish. Why would you have that inside a studio.
At 1:37 the white object int he background appears to be a large heat exchanger / air conditioning unit. (maybe a dumpster)

I think this was on location in Riyahd, the plants don't even look fake to me.

Some things to consider:
To add to the convenience, Silverstein had the towers insured against terrorist attacks so that not only would he get to stop paying for the lease, he would even get most of his down payment back.

Anyone who owns a building that was not only targetted by terrorists, but HAD AN ACTUAL TERRORIST ATTACK ATTEMPTING TO DESTROY IT BY BLOWING UP A VAN IN THE PARKING GARAGE, would be stupid NOT to insure against terrorists.
