Mitch Fatel: I am very Funny

Excerpt From Matt Taibbi's New Book on Christian Right (Religion Talk Post)

EDD says...

Regarding that first quoted paragraph - I recently translated a lecture about that specific phenomenon ("generational curses") which is usually referred to as "carrying out a family's legacy". It's this psychological thing (obviously), where people have been led to believe that, for example, if all men of previous 2-3 (or more) generations in the family have been alcoholics, every man/boy will become one. That's just an example, same goes (not necessarily, but oftentimes) with obesity, lack of education, unemployment, even poverty. Through random remarks parents may bore this sense of doom into their children and the vicious cycle continues.

Of course, attributing this to homosexuality is ludicrous at best. So is trying to equal gay and pedophile. No, wait, scratch that, it's not funny at all, more like a criminal offense, especially if specifically directed at someone.

Larry King's Worst Interview Question

I dunno, maybe Jerry was joking, but it sure looked like being a douche and then trying to rescue it by putting it over the top to me. Not funny at all. Mind you, I'm not his biggest fan, so maybe I am biased. If it had been Denis Leary, I would have probably found it funny. OTOH, Denis Leary is funny, and very funny when he is "outraged". But it probably would have all got beeped out...

Coal Black and de Sebben Dwarfs (1943) Banned Looney Toons

swampgirl says...

Rickegee, I see your point....but the fact that Choggie used "banned" in the title informs the viewer that it's no longer shown because of it's racism. Therefore the cartoon in itself IS educational in it's absurdity. None of you think it's funny, yet it generated this thread didn't it?

For example, look at the last link I posted above in the thread:
http://www.videosift.com/video/Americas-First-Blackstronauts-NSFW-Language

This was made to look like a documentary with fake stock footage and photos. It's CLEARLY not funny at all...none of it, yet it was accepted because it parodies racism. Instead of it being comedic, it exposes racism to the audience in the guise of humor.
This WB cartoon could be argued (in spite of it's original intent) as doing the same, correct?

Sarah Silverman: New Host of Chappelle's Show

Now that was not funny at all. Putting a white woman in where you would normally see a black dude is never funny, but it shows up all the time in comedy these days.

Disturbing real life parody of The Simpsons

Ant: The dialogue is not funny at all; But since you are so curious, here is the translation:

> Marge: Homer, I don't understand how can you spend all day on that couch drinking that beer and watching TV
> Homer: You are right Marge, bring me another beer, this one is warm.
> Marge: Ah! Homer, what I mean is that you have been six hours sitting there and I think it is excessive.
> Homer: But Marge, the polls say the average American spends 3 hour watching TV
> Marge: on top of that I don't understand how can you be watching such a degrading spectacle.
> Homer: You are right Marge, this is an insult. I'm going to call immediately to complain because you cannot waste a pie like that while there are hungry people like me.
> Marge: Stop it! I think you spend way too much time watching TV Homer.
> Homer: Marge?
