If you want to compare Israeli crimes to Palestinian crimes, you know Israel has committed way more acts of aggressing and killed way more people. It's going to be no contest, not even Alan Dershowitz could argue that with Noam Chomsky, he looked like a retard.

noam chomsky-how climate change became a liberal hoax

RFlagg says...

I don't know if we'll ever get to an "I told you so" on the anthropogenic cause, but within 10 years or so I think even the hardest of hard core Fox News watchers will have to stop denying that climate change is happening. At that point they will still deny that giant multi-billion dollar corporations and massive farming of the rain forests have anything to do with it, they'll stick to their "it is a natural" cycle, feedback loops be damned, and continue saying "follow the money" when they point to who is saying it is man made, while ignoring their own advice and following the money to who is saying it isn't man made. Even if they do believe it man made, they'll say it won't matter as a large number of the deniers are evangelicals who say Jesus is coming again soon and he'll whisk them away before it gets too bad. I know because I've heard them say this very line, they use this line to say it doesn't matter who somebody votes for as well, though they still follow Fox and vote as the Republican right tells them to vote... Anyhow I think part of the problem is a lack of basic understanding of science, not understanding what a theory is and how it comes about, and the fact it got politicized (and unfortunately for those of us who accept the scientific facts, Gore may have done more harm than good by being a bit more alarmist in some areas and mis-representing some facts for the deniers to point to and say see the whole thing is false). I used to be a skeptic, but then I followed the research trail back on both sides, saw who was saying what exactly, and it became clear that we are screwed...

TLDR: They may come to accept climate change is happening, but still won't accept that humans have much if anything to do with it.

Superstorm Sandy is another example of society's march past the greenhouse tipping-point like the lemmings that we are. I laid it our in arguments in this video, where I was vehemently opposed by doubt-fuelled, fear monger, climate change deniers:

We're so close to that "I told you so" moment. By that time unfortunately, the methane feedback loop will probably be well under way.

I have realized my own complicity in what appears to others to be a denial of human impact on the climate-
A more pressing dilemma than the human impact on the climate though would have to be the systematic programming of humans being born to grow up fucking stupid. "Stupid" because they are not taught how to arrive at conclusions through traditional methods of information gathering and dissemination....I. E. research, critical thinking, etc.
RATHER, from primary school through university, people are taught to be herded and indoctrinated with bullshit-thinking skills. When education is shit, people become idiots.
This is where the world is and will continue to remain until elections become something more than a fucking propaganda pep-rally of imbeciles who vote because it's a robotic function that means you care rather than an effectual process of healthy social evolution.
What we need to do is legalize homicide in applicable situations, beginning with a new holiday: Murder a Politician Day.

With NDAA and pending cyber-security legislation, I wouldn't upvote that comment with a 10-ft pole...

Shit. I guess I kinda just did.

Bam! well said!
yeah we teach our kids over and over that they are unique little snowflakes. the specialness. a whole species that thinks the world revolves around them.
yeah climate change at it's heart is a mass psychology issue.

I would actually believe it, if I watched too much Fox News and believed that there was no economic crash right before Obama went to office and I was blind and stupid enough to not see that other countries dont fare better (not even Germany) and have very similar changes to that what republicans try to blame on Obama.
I just saw some idiot video on Youtube where someone compared the gas prices from right before Obama went to office to where they are now, of course telling that it will rise and rise much higher with ONLY Obama in office. That under Bush they were actually much higher and dropped to such low numbers before Obama due to a massive economic crisis, was left out.
I understand the right wing propaganda very well. As I said, my thoughts were similar some time ago.

Wait...what are you talking about? Have you seen some of my posts on this site? I'm more Left than anyone on here. Noam Chomsky is Left...he's an Anarcho sydicalist.
I'm not talking about Fox News or right wing propaganda. I'm talking about the most quoted living man, the most important intellectual alive. He says Obama is worse than Bush, I've read about it, I'm saying you should too.

I know how all this right wing propaganda has influenced even leftists. Thats why I dont give a shit. Also because I know Chomsky and hes not very accurate all the time. Because I listened to people like him before, I was so dead wrong. Now I get the facts myself and think by myself. You can quote him all you want. Hes just another guy on one side with his own agenda. Note that he supported Obama 2008, even said people should vote him. Shortly before that he supported an independent candidate. And now hes saying Obama is worse than Bush and even says he said it all along, even before the election, that Obama is worse than Bush.

Yeah, you go ahead and use him as your argument...

If Romney is elected, I will loose all my respect for America.
How anyone can vote someone like Romney after 8 years of Bush, is beyond any of my understanding and tolerance.

So where are you from just wondering? I just can't let this pass. Obama is worse than Bush. I'll say it again...OBAMA IS WORSE THAN BUSH. The only reason why the World...and that is intellectuals and leaders not the population but the only reason why they like Obama better than Bush is because Obama is NICER about being a fucking evil bastard. Bush just said straight up, we don't care what you think. Obama says with a smile that it doesn't matter what you think.
Obama is continuing and expanding the murderous policies from under Bush he's just being nicer about it.

Im from Baghdad and lost my whole family to Bush. Will you now shut up? WTF is that kind of stupid question?
Seriously, I actually supported Bush the first legislation and most of his second. But I learned from my mistakes, and that mistake is huge and something I feel really bad about, because so many people told me that I was wrong before and then I got it in the face when he admitted the Iraq war was a lie and several other unbelievable corruption stuff under his watch, outgoing from republicans. This guy started so much shit, that will haunt us for hundreds of years, and of course Obama cant do shit about it, with the republican obstructionists in the congress. However you see how he tries it, and how he tries to please the republicans at least a little, so they dont block the other 25% of the stuff he actually was able to change. Just look for how long he fought for something essential like Medicare, that many other western countries, WHICH ARE NOT SOCIALISTS, have had implemented for decades and have it working fine.
As I said, Obama is actually trying a lot to make things better, but the president is no dictator. Just look at the republican lies, that were so successful that even democrats believe them now. And people like you who have no clue about politics actually believe republicans claiming Obama is so bad, while THEY are blocking everything he does.
Dont get me wrong, Obama did a lot of crap by himself too, just like every other president before, but to say he is WORSE than Bush... lol... seriously?

Noam Chomsky says he's worse than Bush, has written and presented the evidence that he's worse than Bush. The Most Important Intellectual and US Critic says that Obama is worse than Bush. Go read what he wrote, I can't convince you here.

Noam Chomsky: Who Owns the World

Yogi says...

>> ^quantumushroom:

@shagen454; others:
You could replace all of the leaders of the world with revolutionaries of your choice, Chomsky included. It's an historical constant that within months they'll adopt the means and methods of the former oppressors.
Even assuming Chomsky is 98% correct, there will always be someone (or some group) ruling the world, sometimes for the better and more often not.
The most important thing is not to wait for the world to be perfect--politically or otherwise--before choosing happiness.

This does not mean we should ever stop challenging power. All power is illegitimate unless it proves itself otherwise.

Yogi, you're quite smart but you've really got to drop the "obama hasn't kept any of his promises" schtick. It's so wrong it's embarassing:
here's a list of 200 accomplishments during his first term, with citations. I'm going to follow you around the internet and paste this every time you spout the schtick, until you finally read it.

Obama didn't close Guantanamo, and he has been waging illegal wars with drones killing innocent people. Yeah that's your guy Obama, the promise keeper. Even Noam Chomsky says Obama is worse than Bush in many aspects, yet so called Liberals keep defending him. These people are elected by the rich, for the rich, they are not trying to help you, they are serving the power in this country.

>> ^dystopianfuturetoday:

@enoch,
When Chomsky said, "the stupid masses", he was characterizing an elite point of view. (I looked it up) He wouldn't be the Noam Chomsky we know and love if he had that much contempt for his species. If you agree with that sentiment, then you identify with the elites Chomsky was criticizing. Chomsky may be cynical, but he is no nihilist. He is a humanist. (and so are you!)
If the human race is truly stupid, then there is no point in seeking positive change, and we are all doomed to suffer whatever cruel horrors fate has in store for us.
Underinformed? Sure, that is fixable.
Stupid? Fuck that kind of collective self loathing.
We are all we have. Everything that happens to us -short of an apocalyptic act of nature- , good or bad, will be a result of human action. If we think ourselves stupid, then stupid we shall be. If we loathe ourselves, it only makes it that much easier for the rich and powerful to dominate us. If we think ourselves elite in a world of fools, it just makes it that much easier for the real elites to divide and conquer (yes, I'm looking at you, rightwing libertarians.)
We need to start a humanist revival. White tents. Gospel music. The whole nine. And we are going to need some rebel preachers. Are you in?
disclaimer: dft has a strong pro-human bias and should probably not be trusted.

Public Opinion by Walter Lippmann

Chomsky is getting some of his quotes and ideas the elite have of "the bewildered herd" from Walter Lippmann. His (Lippmanns) contempt for people is pretty shocking and it actually really bothers me reading it. The idea of course is that people can't be trusted and must have decisions made for themselves. I disagree of course but there's some things I wonder about. How the elites use it though is to attack other countries and that I will never agree with.
