That time RATM stormed the NY Stock Exchange to film a video

We can only hope they realize they are starting it with their grandchildren's future. But then again there is always that meteor with our name on it.

Where are all the superheros when you need them? Welcome to the machine.

It's an awesome machine.

Seriously though, is this the best we can do with that engine? What's with the ecological disaster every time it's started?

Maybe we could replace the engine with a forest fire.
It would be less polluting if they just ran it with an oil spill.
If only they can figure out how to start it by clubbing baby seals.
Instead of a pony engine can we just inject children with cancer?

Bill Maher - Punching Nazis

Payback says...

Morello doesn't seem to understand that the majority victimizing the minority is a bad precedent and should be fought against, not merely used now that he's in the majority.

Especially not against someone who is merely wrong.

Find him lynching a black man for getting "uppity"? I'm full on immediate capital punishment for that shit, but this is erroneous opinion and zero fashion sense.

Edit, lulz, auto correct said "zero fascist sense".

Bill Maher - Punching Nazis

MilkmanDan says...

Very analogous to Westboro Baptist "church" stooges. They (ab)use their constitutionally protected rights to free speech to say the most offensive and provocative crap that they can come up with, specifically with the intention to incite a (violent) reaction against them. Why? Because pretty much the entire Phelps family are lawyers, and they know that they can generally win any assault case that they can provoke people into. All that hate they spew boils down to a stupid, petty moneymaking scam.

Is the Seattle Nazi that devious and cunning? I doubt it. Probably just a crazy / fucked up guy, as Maher said. That doesn't excuse his fuckwittery, but it does reinforce Maher's argument that punching the guy is NOT the best response.

Morello is awesome, with RATM and Audioslave, and now Prophets of Rage, etc. But he's dead wrong on this issue, and comes across as a bit of an "internet tough guy". Outside of just ignoring them, I kinda think the only way to one-up these people is to know the law, what constitutes assault etc., and essentially beat them at their own game (ie. provoke them into doing something to you). On the other hand, there's something to be said for using using passive-aggressive snark to mock / humiliate them in a nonviolent way, ala the Foo Fighters:

I Am Bradley Manning

ChaosEngine says...

Role model status is irrelevant here. They are using their fame to spread a message. If it gets a few celebrity watching idiots to sit up and think about this issue (even if it's for the wrong reasons, "ooh such and such told me to care about this"), that's still a positive outcome.

As much as the cult of the vapid celebrity offends me, I don't have a problem with this. At least most of the people I recognise in this video have actually done things (Stone, Morello, etc)

Yogi said:

I think it's pathetic that they have a role model status for anyone. I didn't say that the government and media should be able to do what they want, why the fuck would you think if the celebrities don't stand up to them we're doomed?

The people should and are standing up to them and their bullshit, celebrities we don't need them and their distractions.

First Public Performance of Rage Against The Machine

Shepppard says...

>> ^shagen454:

Its strange to think that the term RATM was first purposed by a guy named Kent McClard of Ebullition Records. Back then Ebullition was one of the most underground, innovative and radical hardcore labels in th world. I guess Kent proposed the name for an Inside Out album to be released on Ebullition... Which seems strange since Ebullition and their bands were way more politically radical than Inside Out or RATM.
Dont know what the story is with this being a whole album performed live for a first show but maybe the band had be playing for a while and waiting for the right vocalist who happened to have a good band name in mind?

If I remember my RAGE history, Morello (lead guitar) founded the band with Zack (singer), they were the first two members.

Wow, thanks for the recommendation. That was a great film.

Thanks for the heads up, bummer I can't find a replacement yet. If you're interested here's another of his (Anthony Lucas's) animations; it's absolutely brilliant! FYI though, it's about 26 minutes long. Enjoy!

Last night I was at a Tom Morello show and he was talking about how the government is using Rage Against the Machine as torture. They are trying to sue the government to stop using their music.

Killing in the name - Instrumental cover

Dignant_Pink says...

kind of a step backwards. tom morello once said "a good song makes you tap your foot and want to get with your girl. a great song makes you want to flip police cars and riot. i'm only interested in writing great songs." upvote anyway, in spite of the toe tapping factor.

Anthrax's Scott Ian fails miserably playing his own song

Zero Punctuation Review: Review

enemycombatant says...

This was just as entertaining as the material it parodies (which I also happen to enjoy). Both are formulaic and largely filled with ignorant, though sometimes accurate, diatribes (except this video wins points for admitting to its ignorance). Simply proffering an opinion contrary to that of the unwashed masses doesn't automatically confer accuracy.

My awakening, for the record, came when Yahtzee implied Tom Morello was a musician of little importance. Once I'd seen behind the curtain, it wasn't hard to see how vapid the character he presents actually is.
