Rapping, deconstructed: The best rhymers of all time

shagen454 says...

Glad to see appreciation for MF Doom. The Sift has 0 appreciation for hip-hop, I have no idea of why, a little bit of racism, hatred for mainstream, too many dorks, too many burning man types? I don't know.

I mean you look at the hits for some of these artists and it's beyond hundreds of millions of hits if not a billion in some cases. Innovators like MF Doom, Dr. Octagon & Big L never got anywhere close to that sort of popularity.

The new Aesop Rock that came out this month is fucking awesome. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YZVlSqjjkic as well as the new Death Grips; open your minds.

Upvoting for learning something new. I don't love a lot of hip hop... but I do love Gangstarr, Kool Kieth/Dr. Octagon, MF Doom, PE, NWA, Dälek, EL-P, tribe, old Wu-Tang... and some others. Noticed on Youtube people saying IT is whack while dropping Big L as some holy grail of hip-hop. And holy shit, how have I never heard of him before?! He was great! Adding Big L to hip hop I love - Put It On was a perfect beginning point for me.

I haven't really had much time for new music. I've been listening to Grizzly Bear a lot still, they're on Letterman tonight I think. Battles seems interesting, although I've only really listened to the first 3 songs or so. Other than that, Raymond Scott and my friend's band Quiet Bears (4track folky goodness). Got anything new for me to try?

Danger Doom (Danger Mouse & MF Doom) - The Mask

Yeah Farhad - I posted Danger Mouse's Grey Album video (it's also linked above in my comment), this post was to show another collaboration he worked on. Oh, and correct what? I didn't have enough characters to put in Ghostface Killah's name into the title (just DangerDoom, as in MF Doom & Danger Mouse). I'm not sure if he has the most pseudo-names, but there's:
- MF Doom
- King Geedorah
- Viktor Vaughn
- Madvillain
- Dangerdoom
- plus a load more from a couple of decades of his past musical lives...

Most people will remember Danger Mouse from his awesome Grey Album where he mixed the Beatles White Album and the Jay Z Black Album. And Benjee, MF Doom doesn't have as many nicknames as Kool Keith, Dr DooM, Dr Octagon, Black Elvis.

Correct the titles, the 2nd rapper here is Ghostface Killah from Wu Tang Clan.

This is a video of the collaboration of MF Doom (a video of his work, here on VideoSift) and Danger Mouse (a video of his work, is here on VideoSift and also a list here) to form DangerDoom. There's also a really funny Public Service Announcement / infomercial parody video (to promote the album) on YouTube aswell. As Metal Faced Doom (who has more pseudo-names than anyone else I've ever known!) always performs in a mask, as a protest to the over-use of image & marketing in music; I guess that this song is about that fashion accessory he loves so much...
