The Adorkable Misogyny of The Big Bang Theory

mxxcon says...

I never liked the show for exactly the reasons this video talks about. I could never articulate it as well it as it did.
Best I could say is it makes fun OF nerds and geeks, not WITH.

Loved this site once. Finding the best recent videos here without much effort was its definition.
People actually did a good job posting them here and often times I visited VideoSift to watch videos while eating dinner. Great memories.

Nowadays most videos posted here are political videos. Not objectively making fun or criticizing both sides, no. Only leftist videos with literal fake news content that have no value at all for making the world a better place. Before I found at least 7-10 videos a day that I enjoyed watching. Now? Not even one. NOT EVEN ONE! WTF happened to you?

You just see these political videos with just childish and retarded attacks, thinking if some pathetic and unfunny celebrity tells it, it is somehow more credible. This site has become a propaganda outlet for these extremist people, and if you dare speak up against it, you get voted down into oblivion and personally attacked (not your points you made).
To put it in a triggering word: Sad!
Good riddance.

Thank You, Scott - SNL

Yeah, I do. It's the whole reason the Arab Spring happened. Literally from peoples tweets and posts on social media. It's how ideas spread today, as lame as it sounds.
I realize it gets tiresome to see people spread their opinions online that way. I have to wade through just as much of it as anyone else, but I felt like this video was encouraging apathy by making fun of people who did that. Basically saying "your opinion doesn't really matter, no one wants to see it, so why bother trying?"

or does this mean you really think tweeting and Facebook posting IS individual involvement and personal action?

Bill Maher - President Crazypants

MilkmanDan says...

I've said I don't like the "tiny hands" stuff before because it isn't in any way a legitimate or meaningful criticism. Trump does all kinds of legitimately crazy shit, and so much energy is spent on making fun of his hands?

...That being said, Maher brilliantly segued a sarcastic "tiny hands" jab into a very legitimate (and funny) jab in this one.

Comedian Attacked By Woman

kceaton1 jokingly says...

It was the dick joke for sure, it hit WAY TOO CLOSE to home. Doesn't everyone agree? Why did I hit the sarcasm button again!?

Now for those that wish to know a bit about that little monument...

I'll assume since he's a comedian he does actually know a bit about the Washington Monument (that is "typically" true for many comedians, they may make fun of something, but they tend to have a fairly in-depth knowledge of just what they ARE making fun of; though not always).

It is, of course, an obelisk. An obelisk was chosen for Washington (probably due to some of his Freemason views, who knows; they may have played a part--a decently big one in my eyes--lots of Washington D.C. is like that) as obelisks are some of the oldest structures in Egyptian culture--for George it was to mean this: "...to evoke the timelessness of ancient civilizations, the Washington Monument embodies the awe, respect, and gratitude the nation felt for its most essential Founding Father..."!

It was fairly hard in "its day" to make and complete; its original design was a HUGE undertaking but was scaled down along the way as resources and support dwindled. It took a very long time to finish and holds a great many distinctions, and most certainly isn't a, "...cement structure." (if you took that literally). It's marble and put together like a puzzle (kind of like brick and mortar, all the way up; a lot of it is marble--two different kinds, Pre-Civil-War, Post-Civil-War). For the time this was an actual engineering feat, from a degree due its height and size (when completed, it was the tallest BUILDING in the entire world--again explaining why it wasn't an "easy" build at all) and from there many of the "goodies" that were included within the project. BUT, the original design that would have made that monument quite different (not so "clean" or "empty") was changed by the final person with the say so, changing MANY details about the whole Monument from its original framework.

Look that up yourself, but one part is the fact that both the ground around it would be FAR different AND the Obelisk would look FAR different as it would be decorated with all the ornamentation, wording, symbolism, etc... From 1848 to 1884; from one idea to a fairly different one; one that was more attention getting and true to the Egyptian building, and their new ideas; to something different; a blank, clean look as it is now.

Japanese Pool Player Gives Great Interview

glyphs says...

Haha, OK. It's funny, but I'm unclear as to whether or not you guys are making fun of me or not.
At this point I'm still recovering from the effects of dealing with the storm of memories that flooded my brain after maniacally confirming that the sift indeed did "break up" with me.
I love this website because everyone posts such amazing stuff and in truth I have felt guilty for not contributing to the community more, but I'm not that good at that, so I'll try and do better. Wasn't there a dude on here called chaosengine from NZ who used to comment a lot what happened to that guy?
Anyway, thanks for not banning me because I really love this place.
I never created an account before because I'm a bit wary of speaking up because people here be cray cray [sarcasm] and public vilification is terrifying, despite the anonymity (so, yes I'm a real person).

The Plight Of Poor Irish Women

poolcleaner says...

It's sad, but I remember my friends in high school making fun of any young woman who got pregnant early in life. Yeah, I found new friends.

Some men want to make this video seem like it's an attack on all men and that this is sexism directed at them. If you think that... well, you may be right, but not about it being an attack on all men -- it's an attack on bigots.

MILO Thrashes Heckling Muslim Women

vil says...

@enoch
I admit I totally dont get the performance itself and dont understand the context, but then freedom of speech and whatever makes anyone happy and so on. The thought that this might be some sort of stand up humor did enter my mind, but I was not sure when to laugh.

What I find entertaining is the juxtaposition of right wing agenda and a guy dressed up and acting like that.

I totally dont know what the recipe is for dealing with muslim bigots who feel the need to be insulted every time someone criticises or makes fun of them. They have a weird way of having their misplaced pride cloud their reasoning. Religion.

He downplayed the boys disabilities as coming down to just being ugly. Not true and kind of mean. Gabriel is a child after all. Thats like making fun of Justin Bieber or Hannah Montana. Wait. So this kid is performing publicly and cant handle mean comments? Really? If he is so fragile and cant laugh idiots off, dont make him do publicity stunts. Id say everybody got what they had coming.

Risque jokes are about the adrenalin of walking the edge, sometimes you just fall off (and get a fine, possibly, or a punch in your stupid face).

Hef says...

I think you're coming at it from the wrong angle.

Why should this comedian feel like he needs to take the low hanging fruit of making fun of a disabled boy?
He doesn't. He shouldn't.
Everything he cops after that is fair game.
He's lucky he didn't get the death penalty for making fun of a disabled boy, because that's the minimum sentence in my country.

Why Do Marvel's Movies Look Kind of Ugly?

JustSaying says...

What do you mean when you say 'hardcore SF'?
2001? Star Wars? Bodysnatchers? Flash Gordon?

I'm personally just glad that at least someone in Hollywood knows how to make fun superhero movies. Outside a handful of Batman and X-Men movies, most superstuff is seriously lacking. I'm looking at you, Warner Bros.
But I get the fatigue. I suffered from it as well. I watch most of the TV shows.

I'd be happy to take about a 10-year break from marvel movies. Especially if we got hardcore SF movies in return.

Patrice O'Neal

Doug threw the question into the room if any of them had ever had someone make fun of them in a way that affected the rest of their lives, and Bill went straight to Patrice O'Neal.

It was somewhere around the 100 minute mark of the 4h End of the World show.

This Is A Weapon Of War

Mekanikal says...

One of the best things about this show is it doesn't take itself too seriously. It often makes fun of itself, culminating in the iconic episode "100".

I don't get it. Bad dialogue and acting. What about this appeals to people?
