Some Big Moments From The Jan 6 Hearings So Far

luxintenebris says...

don't understand the HB thing? is that all they have?

- he didn't plan, orchestrate and carry out a riot
- he didn't egg on homicidal idiots
- he didn't break a solemn oath
- he didn't try to circumvent the Constitution

don't really know 'cause the Red said he did - and their track record is notoriously lousy.

- all those GOP-led investigations, were a waste of time/money, and couldn't even get a slap-on-the-wrist for Hillary (nothing burger)
- those emails and a laptop - and nothing on the burger
- a 10yr rape victim disbelieved and a good doctor slandered

...with oodles of other rabid dog attacks w/only the Red getting red in the face: anger - instead of the earned shame.

also find it galling that they go after joe's kid, yet cheer on 'their' crime family. PROVEN crime family. rather go after the big dogs than some pup.

when they have a case, bring it to trial and NOT get tossed in SIX hours - what a nothing burger w/a side order of bagatelle - then it might be worth a look. (rather see Manchin's gals go to the gaol)

if this was a Lifetime movie, Hunter would help Jr get off coke.

Golfing: Trump vs Biden.

luxintenebris jokingly says...

cheese-it does well w/the form he has. have seen him hit good shots while it looked like he was going to fall on his face.

but biased. rather have a good president/lousy golfer*, than a lousy president/lousy human. in all honesty, preferred Nixon's bowling over 'a good walk spoiled'.

*meaning joe. have to point this out to some🦜 ...well...'cause they don't know a birdie from a triple bogey.

This is why we can't have nice things

noseeem says...

Have had LEDs quit within that time frame also. Most vexing is having to replace one LED w/another while the fluorescents in the neighboring sockets are still burning. Quite honestly, in another house, the fluorescents (save a couple) have been running since they were put in >5+ yrs ago.

Also, remember the hub-bub of folks demanding incandescent over those new swirly ice-cream blubs (ire and desire trumps pragmatism). Hearing this, and 'those' people, knew the new bulb types were definitely going to be better.

Having high ceilings, lousy knees and a fear of heights - changing blubs every few years is a luxury.

surveying the responses to this snafu...it seems there's no way to fix this.

thought it might have been the president's decision to appear late at a closed event, turned open, in freezing temperatures was a lousy idea. maybe the chaotic challenge of going from 10k to 22k might have been over-optimistic by his rally staff. but the fellow rally-goers want to put the blame on other rally-goers (like president; like lemming).

wasn't don's fault, nor the event organizers, it was don's fans? so the problem was they liked him and his 'people' couldn't gauge the huuuge response? don didn't know. his people didn't know. it was because his fans didn't know better?

okay, get it now.

gee. one would have thought they'd been perfectly warm with all those hoods? bet they rue being p.c. and not burning crosses. that alone should have kept a wide number of them toasty.

Penn Jillette: The Case For Libertarianism

Drachen_Jager says...

Libertarianism is for teenagers and idiots.

Any well-adjusted adult with any ability for critical thinking can see how stupid this is. Even his premise is idiotic. The government doesn't use guns to enforce parking violations (for example) they certainly don't use guns to provide healthcare to people. When was the last time a bus driver pointed a gun at you and said, "Get on the bus, it's public transit, cars are illegal now!"

Just because America has a lousy political system and therefore generally a string of bad governments, does not mean government is bad. It just means American government is bad. The countries with the highest levels of citizen happiness, the greatest spread of wealth, the highest education standards, the longest lifespans, the lowest infant mortality rates, the lowest crime rates, all have the kinds of governments Libertarians rail against.

Libertarianism, in summary, is childish, stupid, and immoral. No big surprise @bobknight33 is a fan then.

Who Pays on a First Date?

bareboards2 says...

That thing about "best friend"? I have been saying that EXACT THING for years.

And not just about who pays for a date. It is for all aspects of the relationship. If I wouldn't put up with certain crap from a friend, why would I from a fella?

Side note -- never have I been in an abusive relationship. I wonder why that is?

But I know I am wired differently.

Long before feminism was a big important concept to me, I went on my first date with a young man I didn't know well.

I was 13 years old, in 1967. We went to a matinee at the local movie theater. Fifty cents a ticket.

I remember standing behind him in line, as he awkwardly paid, and I awkwardly didn't know what to do or say.

And my main thought was -- I have a job. I can afford my own ticket. (I cleaned test tubes in the junior high science lab. I still have sense memories of moldy agar in a petri dish.)

I never got over that. I still feel that way. Go ahead and treat me to something special that you can afford. Next time, it'll be my turn to pick the activity and I'll pick something I can afford.

I was lousy at dating. But I was clear about the basic equality necessary in order to respectful to both of us.

school of life-what comes after religion?

lantern53 says...

It doesn't really matter how many people identify as atheists, although I only know one person in my circle who says he is one. I would consider him pretty moral, also.

As I said before, the pendulum swings one way, then the other, much like the sexuality of many in Hollywood.

Regardless, how do you explain the rise of some type of religion in every civilization? Atheism is most likely a late development although I don't have the stats on it. It's a 20th century invention, I'm sure.

When it comes to religion, my faith rests on those with experiential knowledge. There are multitudes of people who have had direct experience of God, they generally coincide, whereas how can an atheist explain his experience of 'no God'. He can't do it.

So to believe in God becomes a common sense decision.

If you don't, that's fine, it's your life, live it as you wish. Each man is his own philosopher. If you are miserable, you have a lousy philosophy.

Don't break up with fossil fuels

Asmo says...

Fucking ridiculous video hiding a somewhat significant point.

The human race can't break up with fossil fuels...

All the wonderful renewable tech we're banking on just isn't capable of supplying enough energy to support our modern post developmental lifestyle. Sure, solar thermal, PV etc are interesting, but unless you have some developing country (aka China atm, but might be India in the future) absorbing the carbon cost of building the panels and tech, the sums don't work out for people personally, and the return on energy invested doesn't work out for the planet.

If you've seen the current state of the Chinese air quality or general environment, you'll understand that for every clean tech device we set up in the west, there is a terrible hidden cost being dumped somewhere else in the world. Except "global warming" is global, so sweeping this shit under a foreign rug isn't going to save us..

With 1.8bn ppl with zero power and another 700+m with intermittent, unreliable power, and a bunch of countries switching off their nukes (and replacing the load mostly with gas/coal), no matter how much we want to break up with the lousy bitch, we can't and won't...

Real Time with Bill Maher: Johann Hari on The War on Drugs

star wars prequel-nostalgia critic gets owned by Mr plinkett

Quboid says...

Whoever put this together is rather dishonest.
NC: "These lightsaber battles looked prettier (but the plot/characters sucked)"
P: "These lightsaber battles suck because of the plot/characters (but at least they look pretty)"

OH THEY'RE SO DIFFERENT!

Truckchase, he's none of those things. The Big Bang Theory?! If you also think that TBBT is cheap, lousy comedy then NC might be right up your street. He's definitely not upbeat.
