Prog Rock Britannia an Observation in Three Movements
"In King Crimson, almost nothing was said. You were just supposed to know," Bill Bruford
His interview starting around 48:00 is my favorite part.
Prog Rock Britannia an Observation in Three Movements
I love King Crimson but out of all the prog rock bands my favorite was Henry Cow. They were an experimental prog band from the mid seventies, highly anti capitalist and took me a long time to get into. Like most awesome shit, My favorite prog song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=374qf7xCFkY , Beautiful as the Moon - Terrible as an Army with Banners . A couple of members were in Slapp Happy that Faust played in, in the early seventies. Fred Frith in the late seventies left Henry Cow and put out a really amazing experimental prog album called Gravity.
Hiromi Uehara Kicks Your Ear's Ass - "XYZ"
If this is too discordant and erratic, try : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TVNAdwFFWjI
Thanks for posting this, really. I hadn't heard of Himori Uehara before and I'm off to buy everything she's ever done and send her envelopes full of my hair.
Self-fascinated wall of text time!
I write music and the more I learn and develop, the less music seems interesting, like the "magic" is slowly being eroded the more I understand composition. Classical, prog and jazz - really good jazz - are protected against that effect, and remain as amazing as they were the first time I ever heard them. Jazz is especially stimulating and fascinating, although I still love everything from Muse to King Crimson to Nobuo Uematsu to Miles Davis. Hiromi Uehara just makes me want to blow my fucking head off with 12 gauge.
mellotron demonstrated by its inventors (early 1960s synthesizer)
I love the mellotron work on the early king crimson records.

Cover of King Crimson's "Twenty-first century Schizoid Man"
I love this band so much -- I mean, the original band, King Crimson, but the Japanese band that covers it is amazing, as well. Prog rock continues to maintain a number one spot for music in my head, and In the Court of the Crimson King is close to ze top of that list. I listen to this song every day.
Emerson, Lake & Palmer- Tarkus (Eruption) Tokyo 1972
Boss music, lol. Makes sense, I mean, most boss music from the Final Fantasy series is progressive. For similar music, listen to Pink Floyd or King Crimson:

This most assuredly inspired Nobuo Uematsu.
Progressive Rock - New Playlist (Rocknroll Talk Post)
..good idea for a playlist, I like some of the progressive rock from that time..

will be a great source of inspiration for the list..
This reminds me: me need to sift more progrock:)
