A lot of work for something so unfunny and historically ridiculous. Some of the most popular kid shows in Germany today were shows created in the East (DDR). Not to mention the horrrrribbble... accents. Maybe I missed something.

I think it was actually done a little earlier, 1920's or 30's. The idea of Fashionable Consumption, to get the public focused on the less important things so the planners could go ahead and run the nation without fear of interference.

He's also talking about "Imprinting" which if you watch a kids show all the advertising is geared towards imprinting the children with brands so you have them for life. There was a book about this, maybe it was called "Branding" whatever I'm babbling time for a Coke.

Yeah that's a Nietzsche quote. I'm thinking the video is about how differently little kids see the world - to them the world is completely bizarre and foreign. They don't understand the reasons behind anything. So what to us looks like a normal kids show, to them looks like an acid trip. Everything is a source of fear except the mother - the one source of security in the kid's world. But the mother doesn't really understand this - she's so used to the world that she forgot what it looked like when she was a little kid herself.

I just read in the wall street journal that ziggy marley did the theme for arthur and a few other kid's shows. That is a catchy tune. It is a profitable target market with repeat customers.
When I'm away from my kids and on the road, I find myself turning on PBS kids shows in the morning instead of the cable and network news crap. Honestly, I prefer it.
TMBGiants was an early adopter of this genre. They have some songs that are better than this particular one. Higgly Town Heros is a good theme by them.
