And I'm totally unaware of any scenario under which an aircraft smoke screen was ever used in exactly this way. By vague report, aircraft generated smoke screens might have been part of the landings at Iwo Jima (ineffective---and I'm not sure about this) and the Philippines in WW-II (can't find a reference for this). In terms of aid from a fleet's own aircraft, the closest I can think of is the distraction and cover attacks of Taffy 1, 2, and 3's disparate air craft at the Battle of Leyte Gulf---but they didn't drop a smoke screen---they just attacked Kurita's battleship task force while the destroyer escorts made their runs until Kurita's nerve broke and he turned.

We netflixed all three seasons, since we don't have cable either. They are gripping and have great characters. We'd get a disk with three episodes and swear we'd only watch one, but we'd be up all night watching them all.

I think John Wayne is exemplar of the previous administration. All brass and no balls. Inspired hundreds of thousands to go to their deaths, but never had the courage to go himself. A real cowboyard.

I don't have a tv... but if I did I am sure I would be a fan as I am familiar with the show from hearing about it. A friend of mine got me into all of the classic spaghetti westerns. Can't say I care for John Wayne so much. Was that wrong to say? Orange County's Airport here is "John Wayne International." Shame on me!

Thanks for busting David Milch out of the sherrifs jail Miss Iss. I have a friend who loves westerns but won't watch Deadwood because of the language. I pointed out to him that dozens of people are killed in most two hour western, yet only about four people die in all three seasons. Then again he thinks John Wayne was an actual war hero, so there's really no helping him. Are you a fan of the series?

I actually find myself nostalgic for the days of Bush Sr. He hired smart people, listened to what they had to say, used his own judgment, and generally made choices that were the right ones for the country, even if they went against his political ideology.

I think that stands in stark contrast to his son's administration, which has pigheadedly followed a radical ideology, the country be damned.

I think Crosswords and KP pretty much said it all about the differences between the two wars.
