Jefferson Memorial Dancing on June 4 2011

A greater reluctance of the state to pass frivolous laws the restrict the liberty of the people. That's all.

i just really really really wanna know in what ways is the law frivolous to you?

whats frivolous to me is the insistence that we be able to dance where ever the fuck we want. If you just have to dance to express yourself, thats cool, and im down with that, you can do that on the steps, then come inside, check out the memorial. but the rest of us that rather like our quiet reflections done without some jackass doin a jig.

btw, i have this unique way of expressing myself through defecation, so next week im getting a flash mob together to go to the memorial to leave piling steamers to stick it to the man for telling me where i can and cant expressionistically shit. We'll even clean up afterward so there's no mess. we're not hurting anyone

Wouldn't today's tourists find this sort of happening a bonus? Imagine the stories:

a) We saw a bigass statue of Jefferson
b) We saw a bigass statue of Jefferson with a bunch'o weirdos doing a jig around it!

As for the reason behind the jig (which the participants were surely eager to explain), surely it complements Jefferson's ideas about keeping the people free from oppressive abuse of power, no?

Jefferson was a gentleman, a scholar and a deep thinker.

He would be appalled by you, not me. He would be appalled at the mountain being made out of this molehill, when there are true mountains to be tackled.

Not that either of us really can speak for the man.

So what about the uneducated British troops sent to put down the illegal colonial rebellion over, as you put it "expensive tea"? Blue collar hardworking guys right? Should have just bent over and taken it because they had badges?
It is bad luck for them, as for the British soldiers, that those whose will they have pledged to violently enforce make tyrannical and demented proclamations. But the most elementary understanding of Jefferson, and the fundamental basis for the US constitution, absolutely precludes meek subservience to tyranny.
A few more gutless masochists like you in Boston and you would be singing God save the Queen, and crowing about how great the staus Quo is. Or whatever mental contortions you had to perform to avoid growing a pair.
As for causing a disrespectful commotion at the memorial to a father of free expression, are you really blaming people silently jigging over people violently attacking others??
No offense but if you'd spouted that shit to Jefferson he'd have knocked you the fuck out.
>> ^bareboards2:
This is the very definition of dehumanization. To tell a hardworking blue collar worker that they are a tool of the state, instead of recognizing that they are understandably pissed off at a bunch of folks who aren't following specific directions?
There is a vid on the sift interviewing cannibals on how they justified eating a fellow human being.
This is the modern world equivalent of that cannibal saying the sorcerer wasn't human, so it was okay to kill and eat him.

I don't know the background of the word (where it originated) - but in my world, or the way I've always heard it said was that "Jigga" was the extension of the work Jig - The Jig (Irish: port) is a form of lively folk dance, as well as the accompanying dance tune, originating in England in the sixteenth century and today most associated with Irish dance music and Scottish country dance music.[1] Jigs were originally in 2/4 time, but have been adapted to a variety of time signatures, by which they are often classified into groups, including light jigs, slip jigs, single jigs, and treble jigs. - I know some people are used to the derogative term: Used as a disparaging term for a Black person. Frequently used in the southern portion of the United States. Human of African descent, having jig like qualities. - But for me, it's a person who dances because I just don't have those racial words in my vocabulary. (I've actually never heard anyone in real life use this term as a racial word.) Sidenote: when I was a kid I learned not to be afraid of the boogy-man by realizing he was just a man who danced (otherwise know and the dancing-man.) >> ^vpvpvp: P.S. how is saying Jigga any better than saying the N word?

The most common use of "Jigga" in the world of Hip Hop at least, is in reference to Jay-Z. It's a nicknamed he coined for himself and often uses in his songs. That's the most popular and most mainstream use for the word and most likely how SHE has even heard or why she uses it. HOWEVER, in this instance it's just to replace the N word in the song which is no different than just saying it. Also, if she did say the N word while reciting the song, I wouldn't even have batted an eye. You're covering a song, the song has bad words, you say them. No big deal. She was trying to do a clean version though to make it more internet friendly which I understand but using Jigga in it's place isn't much better. But whatever. No big deal.

Sorry Jig, awareness or not, I don't really feel this should be on the sift.
Post a news story about it, get the message out. Don't post the actual video.
Your title is misleading, I came in thinking this was going to be something funny (there's another video of a single druggie trying to fight a bunch of cops, but he's "girl" hitting them.) And because I didn't read the text first I saw something I never want to see again.
The message should get out, but videosift is not the medium for this.

Who died and made you the guy who makes decisions....YEAH!

Despite being a moron Shepppard is right about one thing the Title. It could've been much clearer and done in a way that could've shown more respect for this serious incident. I think we should have a "kill" tag or something like that. It's not something some of us want to have anything to do with when we check out our sift, I pass by a lot of videos because the descriptions are obviously something I don't want to see. However I believe having them available is a good idea...just like the Wikileaks collateral murder video which took me about a year to actually get up the guts to watch.

Swimming Worm Shelf

reiwan says...

Those are fishing jigs, which have weights inside the plastic worm. The motor is turning that cog which is probably rotating magnets on a wheel inside the box that have alternating polarities. So when a positive comes by, it sucks the worm to the wood, and when a negative goes by it pushes it away. Its just not strong enough to throw the worm. Its just strong enough to push it into suspension.

Thats what I think at least.

Controversy Over Girls Doing Beyonce Dance (Video)

moodonia says...

You need to dance a jig or a set dance with a girl to see the attraction, its very physical, lots of bodily contact, great fun, and if all goes well, drunk and sweaty

Keep in mind the solo jig predates the Bra, so it had more going for it back in the day... and the arms were used too. I dont like that stiff backed arms rigid kind of style.

>> ^xxovercastxx:

But not all dances are mating rituals. I have a very difficult time finding this sexy, for example. It's hard to believe anyone finds a jig arousing.
