Gavin Newsom Wins Recall Election In Landslide

newtboy says...

^
Aaaaahahaha!!!!! You're really "bragging" about Trump getting Newsom's old sloppy seconds!? Aaaaaahahahahaha!!!
If he's like pops, there's no bigly or yuge, just a funky mushroom that's all cap, no stem.

Maybe Newsom prefers poised, intelligent, beautiful, caring, and sane over bat shit crazy, screaming, vitriolic stupidity from a distant shrieking harpy. (Her wiki photo looks like Caitlyn Jenner)

He traded up....WAY up, married two years later and ever since....she definitely traded down....eventually, after a decade plus she's finally got a "rich" boyfriend. See what happens if he goes to prison! She doesn't like him, she likes his money and political clout.

She's a power whore, her biggest claim to fame is the powerful public figures she's slept with.

Ms Newsom has a long and quite successful career away from her husband, and a long marriage with him.

ROTFLMFAHS!!!! Please, oh please. More MAGA tears. We're in a drought in California and you whiners are keeping the rivers flowing.

Epic Rap Battles: Frederick Douglass vs Thomas Jefferson

Lawdeedaw says...

I do lol, and laughed. But hated this video. They made Douglass seem like some angry black thug instead of the powerful and articulate narrator he was. And basically Jefferson just gave up. They should have had Douglass rap first, say only, "You owned slaves," then Nice Peter could have come out and said, "Who won? Who's next?"

And I am glad people finally see this since the Bruce Banner vs Bruce Jenner came out. Finally....

Bruce Banner vs Bruce Jenner - Epic Rap Battles of History

Lawdeedaw says...

The premise was great. Two transformers with issues. However, the execution was horrible. Hulk said nothing about Jenner's manslaughter (Perhaps he could have thrown a car at people and it bounced over them, then he makes a pun about not killing people.) Nor did he go after Jenner's dick. It seems the SJWs really hit hard. Then again the Douglass one was hardcore SJW too.

brycewi19 said:

The premise on this one was really just below par to begin with.

The execution was also not very good. I expect better quality from the ERB guys.

george carlin-how language is used to mask truth

Babymech says...

Sure, a comedian with a message has to work to be both a comic and convey a message. I think he failed in both cases here; it wasn't funny enough, and his message is a shambles.

I'm not saying he made a good point poorly; I'm saying that he made a really poor point poorly. He's wrong and his examples contradict him. Since part of the comedy of this skit is supposed to be 'It's funny because it's true,' it fails completely for me, since none of it rings true.

Further, I don't know what you think is strawman-ish about my argument - he literally says that 'learning disadvantage' is a PC euphemism for 'stupidity' even though we know that it's not. It's a different word with a different purpose and there was a reason for the development of additional terminology. I would say one or two of his examples are actually changes that were made to conceal unpleasant truths, but many were just made to be more accurate, useful and neutral. Calling it all a PC softening of the truth is just plain wrong.

If you want a strawman argument, on the other hand, I can point out that he sounds alarmingly like the people who fight for their right to call Caitlyn Jenner 'he,' or 'Bruce.' "These people think that just by changing the words they're called, they change their underlying condition. <fart> Doesn't happen!" That would be a strawman argument, since he doesn't actually get into those areas.

dannym3141 said:

Let's remember he's a comedian, it's pretty facile to overlook the fact that he has to be both entertaining and funny regardless of the message he wants to get across. It is extremely difficult to be funny enough to attract widespread popularity as a comedian and at the same time exhaustively cover a nuanced topic to deliver the most devastatingly convincing points.

I know it's that difficult because no one can do it. Ricky Gervais tries to do it sometimes but he either sacrifices the comedy in lieu of the message or vice versa. Who is to say if he would be as popular as he is now if he didn't do that?

So then is it better to make the perfect point to a smaller number of people, or to make a point to a lot of people and hopefully inspire them to take an interest or discuss it? Well, here we are discussing it, so i think he probably achieved exactly what he wanted to.

Carlin said that if the context is right, any word is fine. But in your "stupid" example, you try to discredit Carlin by describing a context which is clearly not right. So it turns out this is just a strawman argument. He didn't say he wants people called stupid (or retarded) or n-word like the old days, he said that words like retarded and n-word are ok in context. I don't know how you can disagree with that. I also don't know why i censored the n-word because the context was right, but it felt a bit gratuitous when i wrote it.

Wow, that is some list of classic and obscure classic and classically stupid films! I have too many comments about the scenes included in this compilation, so I'll pick one thing:

Pink Flamingo's egg man at 4:06... God, the horrible memories. Divine is awesome though -- but not the egg woman.

On a lighter note, director John Waters said today that he wants to be able to make fun of Caitlyn Jenner.

Not all blacks are lazy stupid thugs & savages as you again wrongly suggest I say. Like any other demographic it probably on 5-8 % that put your demographic is such bad light.

Fox news - The news itself is fail and balanced. The rest is opinion journalism. Unlike MSNBS which does not even have a news time slot.

You statement
"When all the dimwitted unapologetic willfully ignorant old racist folks like you finally kick the bucket.. then we can move on." is not true. Again your are so biased against me and whites - I have said is past post that things should get better as the older generations pass and times move on.

As for the rest of your dribble. Its just that dribble in which you are trying to justify your race failures to assimilate into society as being caused by the white man. I would more correctly say that you race problems are caused more by government policies.

The media just reflects society and use it to manipulate society fore its own ratings.
Top local news is almost always hard crimes and sadly it appears that your race is most in this segment. All for ratings at your race expense.

Media also users it to manipulate society for sway public opinion. Bruce Jenner is being pushed a a great thing. It not really a great thing abut being pushed as such.

Would you like to also explain how Racism is a modern liberal invention that didn't "truly" exist before 1950.

Second - LMAO. Really.. blame the media for YOUR racism?

You and Lantern are the ones portraying blacks as lazy stupid thugs & savages.

You can deny that.. But all your comments are archived so..

Yeah, the only reason FoxNews does it is because YOU watch it.

Lastly -

When all the dimwitted unapologetic willfully ignorant old racist folks like you finally kick the bucket.. then we can move on.

Your ignorance and denialism of White Privilege & White Fragility aka Aggrieved White Man Syndrome is the problem.

As soon as there's a generation where the majority of white people go..

"Wow, yeah.. our ancestors totally fucked everyone else over and we still directly benefit from that.. sorry guys.

We're gonna make up for that."

THEN we can finally move on.

That should probably only take another.. 300 - 500 years.

Real Time - New Rule – Learn How to Take a Joke

Babymech says...

What he actually said was that the joke relies on him not holding the belief, ie not accepting this as either fact or a valid perception of reality... which seems disingenuous; insomuch as the joke works, it's only because Eastwood's intended audience believes that Caitlyn Jenner's identity is an act. There's nothing else to the joke.

You obviously want to express some kind of solidarity with Eastwood's intended audience and be in charge of Caitlyn Jenner's sexual identity, so I guess the joke resonates better with you?

SDGundamX said:

As he goes on to explain, just like the "Hispanic men are rapists" joke and the "Muslims blow shit up" joke, this joke relies on exaggerating either the facts or our perception of reality. Case in point, Jenner was biologically born a man and decided he felt more like a woman.

Real Time - New Rule – Learn How to Take a Joke

SDGundamX says...

As he goes on to explain, just like the "Hispanic men are rapists" joke and the "Muslims blow shit up" joke, this joke relies on exaggerating either the facts or our perception of reality. Case in point, Jenner was biologically born a man and decided he felt more like a woman. Now he literally needs to learn how to "act like a woman" because--let's face it--the majority of what we perceive as "feminine" is learned, acculturated behavior (how to dress, how to move, how to talk, etc.).

And yeah, all of those jokes are offensive--but so what? Why are we so worried about being offensive when telling jokes? If you honestly believe that all Hispanic men are racists or all Muslims are terrorists or all transgender individuals are "just acting" then clearly there's a problem. But how is there any harm in joking about these things?

The humor lies in exaggerating to an absurd level facts that are taken out of context (or put into an entirely new context). Every great comedian does this , which is why apparently great comedians like Jerry Seinfeld and Chris Rock don't do college shows anymore.

Babymech said:

Did he seriously not understand why it was offensive to say that somebody's sexual identity is just 'acting'? What the fuck is "it's just words" supposed to mean? I'm not saying the line should or shouldn't be cut, because I don't know shit about the context, but at least I understand what the offending joke was... is this how Maher thinks comedy works, specific trigger words that are permitted or not?

Vi Hart on Gender

poolcleaner says...

There is a reason to go gender neutral but personally I advocate copying your brain and cloning yourself as both a man and a woman, and then a gender neutral cherub to follow your female and male selves around, shooting love arrows and playing a harp on a cloud with a My Little Pony that carries your personality back ups.

Of course, technologically we aren't there yet, but yeah that's the path to my heart's content.

And while I wait for that time, I'll spend the remainder of my life alternating between male, female, and neutral. Of course... it's hard to alternate sometimes when I have acrylic nails, threaded eyebrows, and henna up and down my arms. People are just confused by my appearance no matter how masculine I act.

The problem I have is that the effort to go through the process of feminizing makes the process of returning to a masculine state difficult. And often times I don't want to return to a masculine state. Though, being masculine is much easier aesthetically, it makes the return to a feminine state easier to achieve than going from my female self to male.

The thing is, I was never super masculine until around my midtwenties when I started hanging out in bars, drinking a lot, and basically mimicking alpha male behavior. I had to really put forth the effort to be a man's man, but once you learn to fake it long enough, you make it become part of your reality.

So in the reality that is my brain, although I am genderfluid, I lean more towards neutrality and femininity aesthetically, even if I also enjoy a good masculine diatribe every now and then. See, on the internet I can be anything I want to be at any time without the material requirements, which MEN do not fully realize (you ignorant pigs). So my genderfluidity is more natural and honest in this realm of 1s and 0s than "the desert of the real."

Edit: As an aside, I would like to point out that I'm not transgender or genderfluid because of Caitlin Jenner. It's not a fad or a trend, it's how I've always been, I just don't make a big fuss about it, unless it is appropriate to do so, such as now.

Bruce Jenner "Call Me Caitlyn" On Vanity Fair’s Cover

The Last Stand - Trailer - Arnie is back!!!

The Walking Dead AND Episode 11, Season 2 --Spoilers-- (Scifi Talk Post)

probie says...

1. Yes, Randall should die. It's unfortunate, but by his own admission, he's already confirmed that the group he was with are not the most savory characters. He knows where the farm is and who Maggie and her family are. Plus, he knows that most of Rick's group are keen to kill him, which makes his motive for escape that much more enforced. At least his former group never tried to kill him. (We can't speculate here; only that facts that are presented to us, the audience) So he's definitely a liability to Rick's group.

2. Karl wants to prove himself. He's got two father figures telling him what to do, on top of a guarding mother. How should his parents approach the situation? Well...they haven't seen anything "wrong" yet, other than mouthing off to Carol. They don't know he stole Darrel's handgun, or confronted a zombie in the woods, etc. As for Karl wanting his Dad to shoot Randall, I'm sure Rick will have a sitdown and try to explain to him the logic behind his initial decision, and then the subsequent change of mind. Will he confess responsibility about the zombie? Tough call; if the writer's stick with the old Karl, he will. But Karl has changed (per his actions in this episode) and we never saw an apology to Carol. He could just shut down and harden up. Will the guilt get the better of him? I'd say yes, due to 1) he seems to have been brought up with a sense of justice and "doing the right thing" in part because of his father being a cop, and 2) at that age, when you screw up that bad, you don't just hide it away. He'll either confess, or confide in someone. I would have said he would have confided in Dale, but...well...you know....

3. Was it the right time to kill off Dale? Is it the right to ever kill of a character? Well, seeing as they've COMPLETELY strayed from the original Dale/Andrea story line in the original source material, I guess now is as good a time as any. My guess his Hershel will step up and take the mantel of the archetypal wise old man; it could give his character some redemption, if the writer's choose to go that route.
My immediate reaction to him dying was thinking "Well, Jeffrey DeMunn's off the show....I wonder what he'll do next with Frank Darabont..." Was his early death motivated by television politics....who knows. It seems to me that when you get an actor/director pairings, like DeMunn/Darabont, Russell/Carpenter, Depp/Burton, those tend to be pretty strong allegiances. I'm sure if there was some background gaffing over Darabont leaving the series, DeMunn was more than onboard with Darabont and wasn't surprised his character was killed off. I'll wait for the eventual news story/tell all book.

***Possible spoilers ahead if you haven't read the graphic novels***
As an aside, I'll cut back to season 1 for a moment, and what Jenner whispered to Rick before blowing up the CDC. I don't think he whispered some major secret to Rick; I have a feeling Jenner explained to Rick that "they" were the walking dead, and not the creatures outside. This is given in a huge, revelatory speech at the end of one of the books, don't remember which, after Rick breaks down from all the stress/guilt/death (that will eventually happen?). Seems a perfect fit into the storyline as they haven't mentioned it since the beginning of season 2 (when he's trying to reach Morgan on the radio). And I'm still waiting on Merle to show back up as the Governor.

My geek-o-meter says it looks like a Jenner, and all systems are nominal. Though they may have changed the name with the switch from Battletech to Mechwarrior and then again from Mechwarrior to MechAssault. This just reminds me, painfully so, of how much I'd like to see another proper (more simulation-oriented) Mechwarrior or Battletech game. Death before dishonor!
