I learned to tie correctly because in cartoons (my model for everything) the loops fall perpendicular to the foot.

I thought he was pretty humble in the end, terrified that people would actually listen to him and take his advice. The audience is filled with aspiring actors and film makers - presumably it's one of the reasons they come to these shows, to learn craft from otheres.
