Hypocrisy, Thy Name Is Republican

luxintenebris jokingly says...

the grand old party is as good as their word.

why should we worry? deny the president was guilty and removing him, only strengthen america's chances against a killer virus...right? pence would have been worse on the covid response...right? like pontius pilate the call was in their hands.

these are the same folks that say corporations are people, we can wait on infrastructure, healthcare and education necessities, they can channel the forefathers, and the almighty put their presidential candidates on the ballot.

as the god chosen they've divine this is the time to start another holy war. during a time when...
- a virus cold war is going on. rubes with attitudes spitting lines about constitutionality and freedom (spitting being the keyword). then accusations that the spit-upon are politizing the disease
- blm movements meeting up w/the far-right press and punks
- half the country is on fire and the other under water
- homelessness, evictions, unemployment, and the real possibility of a bone-crushing depression settling in longer than covid itself...

...and now the might right wants to add to the fire. like they are running a gender identification party.

any wonder my moscow mitch had a 13% approval rating? if the republicans hate their representatives, what chance does anything else have?

sure. justice cruz will be a salve to soothe the burn. like ethanol in hell.

Joe Biden Mental state

newtboy says...

There was an article a few days ago about Trump floating a plan to let Democratically led cities and states languish with zero federal funds or assistance, not only through Covid but as a, let's call it final solution to the problem of Democratic leadership.

Sounds like he is looking to dissolve the union himself.

I, for one, support Wexit. California, Oregon, and Washington would likely have a bigger, definitely more robust economy than those lesser 47 states (or fewer if there's an Eastxit), and our population of insane right wing nutjobs is a manageable size, and would likely shrink fast.

Can we just do a trial run....we can wait until November 4 to decide if it's still necessary, but we could start ignoring DC now....and stop sending them our money. No need for fighting, just an amicable divorce.

If they want a civil war, i guess we'll have to teach those dumb rednecks a lesson again.

ANTIFA Returns To Berkeley

newtboy says...

Really? Ok, point out the antifa in that clip then. Please, show me the crazed lefty pointing his gun and firing at the peaceful Nazis and KKK, name the second and quadrant of the video frame...or any video of that. I'll gladly retract if you can. Waiting with bells on. ;-)

Edit: how sad, Bob. Watching on the bigger screen, I was able to find ONE masked man on the anti Nazi side....why couldn't you?

Aftermath November 2016

heropsycho says...

There's two ways to look at this election. One is a dispassionate exploration of why did it happen. Another way is a moral argument on who people should have voted for. What you wrote is a great description of why Trump was elected.

Her reaction to the election is a great moral reaction to people who voted for Trump.

I'm sorry, but she's right.

A "fuck you" "no confidence" vote for Trump is a temper tantrum vote, and I say this as someone who isn't really a big Hillary Clinton fan. Voters shouldn't act like five year olds. How about be adults and do what you've had to do frequently in your adult lives, take the punch in the gut, and fucking do the right thing.

I REALLY REALLY want to go to Europe next year. I saved up the money, I had everything planned out, and I was ready to go. And then my dog got sick and had a thousand dollar surprise vet bill, and then my heat pump died.

I could act like a five year old and go anyway even though I don't have the money as a fuck you to god, the universe, or whatever I think gives a damn, or I could be a grown up and do the right thing - postpone the trip and go later.

I acted like a adult, and did the right thing. Europe can wait.

I wouldn't say this to an Obama, Romney, McCain, George W. Bush, Kerry, or Gore voter, and I could keep going back in history. This wasn't an election where you're picking between equally deadly gruesome poisons. One was a typical politicians, who you may rightfully hate, and the other was a sexist racist completely inexperienced baffoon who bragged about sexual assualt, bragged about how big his dick was in a presidential primary debate, a complete serial liar the likes we haven't seen in politics in the modern era, and I could go on and on and on.

Be a fucking grown up and vote for the only responsible adult in this election, who is admittedly completely unlikeable. It's really not hard, but never put anything past the American voter.

Parents Talk to Their Kids About The Birds and the Bees

Sagemind says...

While there is nothing wrong with talking about this stuff with kids, other than making a funny video, it's not really neccesary to talk about sex with kids this age.
Absolutely, answer any questions they may have, but you can wait until they are 8-9-10 to talk about this stuff... just before puberty.

I'm not saying to hide it from them, but to sit them down for "The Talk" at this age is a little silly. If they are showing signs of knowing stuff, and you want them to have the right information, you can ask small questions that will give away how much they know and you can steer them in the right direction.

In the end, it IS the parent's prerogative though.
Don't scare your kids though

Synchronized Neighborhood Christmas Lights

jmd says...

#1 Its not fake.
#2 this is probably one of the first couple of full runs, no one but the home owners even know about it.
#3 It is not actually that difficult. The kits to synchronize these lights have been out for a decade now. In a case like this I would;

a) Get permission to handle everyones lights for the year.
b) Using the same kit, I wouldn't get too fancy, gutter icicles, trees, garage outlines, not much more for each house.
c) only need to make one routine, this routine can then be loaded into all houses with only the need to tweak the strands of lights used in each group.
e) syncing would be no problem with an internet aware kit that synchs its internal clock online.

The place turns into kind of a strobe mess because there are not many types of light groups to alternate between, but that can wait for next year. Great effort.

Health Care: U.S. vs. Canada

scheherazade says...

Worth keeping in mind that the reason the US has such short lines for medical services, is because so few people can afford to get in line.

Canada has the opposite issue. Anyone can get medical care, so there are a lot of people waiting for their turn.
(Note that non-elective procedures skip to the head of the line, so you're not waiting around to fix something immediately life threatening.)

Seems like a combo approach would be ideal.
Have both public and private medicine.
- People that can't spare the time, that want elective procedures, can go private.
- People that can wait go public.
- People that need non-elective procedures can go either private or public and get their work done right away regardless.

Kevin Spacey Talks About the Future of Television

JustSaying says...

Piracy is certainly a service problem.
I'd love to give HBO my money but if they make me wait one freaking year to do that, they'll loose. I'm still going to buy their BluRays but certainly not at full price. I can wait, I've already seen their shows.
I would actually pay for a subscription to HBO, if it was available here. It isn't.

That's why Game of Thrones tops the piracy charts. Because they make it harder to give them your money. I bought Hannibal on iTunes. Saw each episode 1 day after air date, what an awesome show.

I never preorder. I always wait for reviews, ratings, etc. I hate being the first one too with bugs, problems, etc. I can wait.

I was really excited about a new SimCity coming out when they announced. But smart enough to wait and see whether or not they'd screw the pooch.
