Lies. I copyrighted boobies and cats and I have been making a killing since the internet hit critical mass. How did I do this? Let me not tell you.

Warcraft Acct. Dealer: I Lost $250,000 in one day!

Porksandwich says...

@dannym3141 Yeah, I had an account there after BC. I played in WoW beta and had my fill of the game in it's state then...so didn't sub up till first expansion. Someone offered me 150-250 and I laughed at him, I had a decently equipped max level druid, but I also had a bunch of level 40 something guys on the account plus a whole lot of money and a small personal guild I used to vault stuff. I told him I'd want 500 bucks offered before I'd even think about it, because while I could recreate the character the rest of the stuff would have taken me a long long time to redo. It's sitting around idle for however many years now...4 maybe 5.

But still doesn't change my opinion on account and gold selling ruining the games...gold screws with the markets where people with bots playing 24 hours a day are driving prices up creating the need to buy gold if you don't want to grind continuously. And sold accounts make it so they never have to solve the boring levels...like I thought 1-25 were crazy boring and around 40 it got really slow, but max level was fun until you played everything to death and 20-40 were fun due to the skills and maps becoming available.

No idea what the game is like now given they revamped everything with cataclysm....sometimes I'm curious to find out..then I remember how pissed I was with WoW toward the end of my time there...doubt I'd even get 2 weeks out of it before I was pissed again.

Everquest was a whole other beast, it was really cool because it was mysterious. But I know if I had the option to play it now for free I wouldn't, I tried to go back after they released more expansions and found it too confusing/cumbersome after WoW interface and stuff. Plus I really disliked EQs alternate advancement system, it was like leveling your character over again and gaining very abysmal gains for your efforts......would have rather they added multiclassing or something instead of that.

Yeah, the Metro UI is great for say a phone. When I move to Canada I'm gonna ditch my iPhone and get a Lumia 900 or something. I just wish MS didn't force it on us for Win 8. I wish they'd actually improve the standard desktop with new and actually usable features (like Win 7's new task bar icons. More of that sort of stuff, please) rather than slapping Metro over it.

Trying to force me to find hotspots in the corners of the screen feels like some clunky punishment for not having a Windows tablet. Maybe we'll get used to it, or hack it, or stick with Windows 7 like some people are still hanging on to XP, forcing the extension of its lifespan until Microsoft comes up with something not so goofy.

Not sure what that was about. I blame Flash- lots of crashes and weird behaviour since the last updates.

Flash sucks. Steve Jobs and others were right about it.

You're right of course. Flash sucks ass but let's face it, Jobs' decision was first and last a business decision in the same vein as it's a business decision for Apple to continue using that ridiculous and crappy proprietary 30-pin interface for their iProducts, rather than a nice standardized USB one.

Now with even more conveniently-placed barricades to crouch behind and more cut-scenes to take you out of the gameplay, with an interface to make you wonder why you bothered to buy the PC version.

Would make a great book or movie, and ME1 was an ok game, but ME2 sucked ass as a PC game, and I have absolutely no desire to get this one. When developers make PC games for PCs, and not shitty console ports, I'll be interested. Until then, I'll just play through my extensive GOG library. Now, get off my lawn.

This stuff: http://videosift.com/talk/Time-to-Trim-the-Interface?loadcomm=1#comment-1390141

I would like to see comment formatting done with simple markup rather than HTML. It would make trimming down or breaking up quotes easier and would be much easier in general for less technical users.

I was against threaded comments when it was brought up a while back because we rarely got that many comments on a video. Now I'm thinking it's justified or will be in the near future.

I would like the floating/pinned comment box idea to be polished. At the very least make the setting sticky. Even better if it was a pop-out deal like the IM function.

We don't need *beg or *requeue anymore, we've got *promote. Adjust the power point cap so everyone can use it, if necessary. Please don't make us requeue our videos every 8 hours to keep them alive. Let masochists like @Sarzy get their abuse elsewhere.

If we must continue down the road to MMOVideoSift, please take extra care not to work against quality with new features. I'm still convinced that this has been a big part of the dip in variety over the years.

Give us a "page scraper". Let us submit any URL, like we can do with youtube, and let @siftbot scrape the page for valid embeds, presenting us with a list to choose from. Think of it the same way you pick a thumbnail when you share a link on Facebook.

Make tags show on-hover so as not to give away spoilers (without requiring us to leave valuable tags out).

How about some super tooltips? http://i.imgur.com/H4c7q.png

Here's some small tweaks that I think would be nice.

On the advanced search screen, the options for Search Type should be "Videos", "SiftTalk", "Comments", and "Blogs". In other words, take "Search" out of the text. That way you can tab into the field, press V, S, C or B and keep on tabbing.

Status doesn't have enough options to warrant the awful multi-selector widget. Just give us some checkboxes.

Classy. Nice tone you set for the rest of the discussion.
"Not surprised that you have nothing to say about this, as it is, probably, the primary reason so many former Diablo players won't be playing D3.
How many is so many? Did you do a survey? Diablo's core audience, many of whom continue to play D2 to this day, are those who played D2 on BNET. That's where the meat of the game is, and that's where the community is built around. Who do you think Blizzard keeps on patching and adding new content for, more than a decade after D2's release?
" Nothing in D2 required you to go to "sketchy websites" and spend money. [...] Sure, you still don't have to, but both drops and crafting have been nerfed in order to encourage spending."
Did you know that D2 had a huge online item black market? It has basically the same effect as an auction house, except people had to go to 3rd party vendors for it. But guess what? This kind of stuff only matters if you're playing on the ladder. Want to have a nice quiet solo game, or run through the game with a few friends? Who the hell cares if you have elite gear? Play the beta - they definitely did NOT nerf drops and crafting.
The rest of your post is nonsense. D3's stash size is 10x7, larger than the one in D2. And blizzard manipulating drop rates for players depending on their auction house usage? That's just pure bullshit.
Have you even played D2 or kept up with all the interface "streamlining" in D3 at all? Those pets I mentioned above don't do anything except pick up your gold. Talk about "dumbed-down". This game is headed for consoles.
Those pets were removed from the game due to player feedback. "Streamlining" - have you even played the beta? The additional skill slots make this game LESS console friendly than D2. Face it, D2 was already perfect for consoles. And Torchlight? ALREADY on consoles.
SOME randomized dungeons, last I read. Although, if I'm wrong, it doesn't really matter. I said "linear", not "non-random". One does not mean the other. I have little hope you can understand the difference. I'll try to use them both in a sentence for you later.
I said randomized dungeons and quests. If the first time you play the game you get quests ABC, and the second time you play the game you get quests XYZ instead, is that NON-LINEAR enough for you? It looks like you're the kind of person who, rather than play a game, justs makes up bullshit instead and then bitch about it.
Oh, please. The textures look like they shot primary-colored paint balls onto an easel and captured it through a shear stocking.
Like I said, people seem to forget D2's graphics. In D2 you were fighting against red, green, blue, yellow colored monsters while your character was decked out in purple. D2 was cartoony. D3 is less. You complain about D3 being cartoony, then you talk about playing Torchlight? Are you fucking kidding me?
It's Blizzard's loss, not mine. I don't get too emotionally attached to "things". With Torchlight2, Grim Dawn, Path of Exile, and even Legend of Grimrock in the works, I won't miss D3 one bit.
With D3's sales, I doubt Blizzard will miss you one bit. And the Diablo community won't miss you one bit. One less whiny brat to clog up the BNET forums.

I absolutely LOVE list comments! Anda here we gooooo....!

"I'll bite."

You'll have to stop barking first.

"1. Online-only: Yup."

Not surprised that you have nothing to say about this, as it is, probably, the primary reason so many former Diablo players won't be playing D3. The rest of this list is just icing. There is simply no reason whatsoever to require a persistent online connection for single player, at least from the player's perspective.

"2. Overly-monetized: So was Diablo 2. Now those who want to spend money don't have to go to sketchy websites."

Huh? Nothing in D2 required you to go to "sketchy websites" and spend money. Some items were only available in the online game, but the player still had the choice whether to participate or not, and I didn't. In D3, spending real money is an integral part of the game. Sure, you still don't have to, but both drops and crafting have been nerfed in order to encourage spending.

The inclusion of the AH turns everybody into an open wallet that can be manipulated. How? Say Blizzard's stats show a player sells the majority of his uniques in the AH. Up his unique drops. Make more money when he sells in the AH. How about giving players more drops of valuable items they already possess? More duplicates, more selling in AH, more profit for Blizzard. Need more storage space in your stash? Unfortunately, Blizzard just made it smaller in the beta. Luckily, you'll be able to buy more space in the AH. Want a pet to pick up all your gold for you? Oops! Removed, but no doubt you'll soon be able to buy one in the AH.

The whole monetizing thing is offensive to me as a PC gamer and former Blizzard fan. You wanna be a chump? Go for it. Buy yourself some Ancient Armor of Win and have a blast.

"3. Dumbed down: nope. With the skill rune system and the crafting, as well as the new skill bar, there's going to be more depth in D3."

Have you even played D2 or kept up with all the interface "streamlining" in D3 at all? Everything is being nerfed to encourage participation in the AH. Those pets I mentioned above don't do anything except pick up your gold. Talk about "dumbed-down". This game is headed for consoles.

"4. Linear: nope. Still randomized dungeons and quests."

"5. Cartoony: Nope. The beta is anything but cartoony. I'd say D2 was way more cartoony with its rainbow pantheon of monsters."

Oh, please. The textures look like they shot primary-colored paint balls onto an easel and captured it through a shear stocking. Again though, doesn't matter. Very low on my list of issues, if it's there at all. I mainly just needed an adjective.

"Your loss."

"Your loss and good riddance."

...sounds pretty fanboy-ey and I can see why you wouldn't want people to see it. It explains alot. However... on the chance it was just a random typo and not an example of your linear thinking, I'll just say this...

It's Blizzard's loss, not mine. I don't get too emotionally attached to "things". With Torchlight2, Grim Dawn, Path of Exile, and even Legend of Grimrock in the works, I won't miss D3 one bit.

It's Time ... (Sift Talk Post)

jonny says...

I know this is long, so please bear with me. Before I get to my suggestions, though, let me begin with a couple of caveats so you don't tune out everything else if your initial reaction is negative. First, with one notable exception, this suggestion doesn't remove any functionality that you want to keep. And two, the ideas are intended to simplify the conceptual framework of some of the existing functionality, and hopefully the interface as a result.

Conceptually, all of the video listing pages (Front, Unsifted, Beggar's Canyon, Hot, Dead Pool, etc.) are nothing more than searches with different parameters of all of the videos available here. From that perspective, the Unsifted Tab is a search for all videos with fewer than 10 votes submitted (or resubmitted via promote, etc.) within the last 2 days. I don't see any reason why I shouldn't be able to search for all similar videos submitted within the last 5 days, for instance. Or 30 days. Ultimately, the Unsifted tab can be analogous to the Sifted Tab, with no restriction on submission date at all.

The first consequence of this (the notable exception mentioned above) is that the allowed rate of video submission has to be redefined in terms of number of videos over time, as opposed to number of videos simultaneously in the queue. With a little forethought and experimentation, it should not be hard to reproduce a very similar rate of submission to what we currently have. It might not be possible to exactly match the current rate, but we should be able to get pretty close.

Another immediate consequence is that PQueues are obsolete. The exact same functionality would be served by the Unsifted queue itself. Beggar's Canyon still makes sense, but I think a more effective approach would be to allow any member to requeue an unsifted video (resetting the submit date, but not for the purposes of dupes), requiring a power point and a submit slot. The latter is also simpler and more direct than Beggar's Canyon, which requires the viewer to go to a different page of videos.

The 'promote' and 'quality' invocations should function exactly as before, putting a video in the promotion box and/or pushing it to the front of the queue. (Side note: the practice of promoting one's own videos (and I do it myself) goes against one of the fundamental principles of VideoSift. I've never understood why this was started. I'd like to see this ability removed, but if it does stay it would work similarly, requiring 2 power points, but not a submission slot). Also, the 'dead' invocation would make sense and work on unsifted videos (though, if you wanted, you could still restrict that, possibly just discarding dead unsifted videos).

Perhaps most importantly, this conception of the video listing pages opens up any number of other possible pre-defined searches (similar to any other listing, like Top or Hot). "Almost There" could show all Unsifted videos with 9 votes. "Bottom of the Barrel" could show all videos with 0 or less votes. Whatever searches are most likely to direct users to the videos they are most interested in. You could even let members save their own predefined searches as a menu option.

An analogous conceptual framework can also apply to the other fundamental VideoSift activity - Community. Commenting on videos or profiles, sift and channel talk posts, the lounge, blogs, badges/awards, etc., can all be thought of as different 'searches' through the community space, at least from a navigational point of view. Taken as a whole, this conceptual framework suggests a natural layout of the interface menus:

Video

Sifted, Unsifted, Hot, Top, Recommended, Random, Dead(, Beggar's Canyon)
Community
Sift Talk, Top Discussions, Recent Comments, My Comments, Members, Blogs, Lounge
Help
    FAQ, Rules/Guidelines, How-Tos
Login/Register
Profile, Prefs/Profile Settings, Facebook, Google+, Logout

I've omitted or glossed over some details, but this is already too long, so I'll stop here and wait for any feedback/questions.
