You're way off man. Why would they get nasty if he's clowning around? All it does is make you look like an awkward idiot with no sense of humor or wit.

Triumph the insult dog is an excellent example of how people act when they know the interviewer is not serious, and is just using them for their schtick. Most of the time people try to laugh it off and play along; it's nothing like how they react to SBC.

Triumph the Insult Dog Gives The Hawaii Weather Report

Zifnab says...

As far as I know it was actually on the air. I found this info as well:

In one of his Canadian programs, Conan O'Brien showed a segment featuring Triumph The Insult Comic Dog that was taped in Quebec. During the segment Triumph (a dog puppet controlled by Robert Smigel) made various stereo-typical insults about the people of Quebec. A few days later news programs all over Canada and the U.S. were talking about how outraged the citizens of Quebec were about Triumph's comments. In a rerun show on the following Monday, Late Night broadcast a show from a few months before in which Triumph made fun of people waiting to audition for American Idol in Hawaii. During that segment Triumph was apparently asked by Fox Television to leave the American Idol property -- apparently Fox doesn't think that Triumph is very funny either. The segment went on to show Triumph later that same day, doing the weather report on the local news program on an NBC Hawaiian affiliate station. Triumph was ranting about how the people of Hawaii have to endure moderate cloud cover, something that spoils their otherwise warm and sunny weather. He also made fun of the two people who were reading the news. I can honestly say that the two or three minutes that the Triumph character spent on a Hawaiian news program is one of the funniest things I have ever seen on television. I laughed so hard that I could barely breathe.
