How Dark Patterns Trick You Online

MilkmanDan says...

Hmm. 5.5 minutes of good info, making us think about tricky ways that online stuff gets us to click or pay attention to stuff that isn't good for us (the audience) but can benefit the creator/host.

And then there is a brief cut to black that doesn't obviously mark an endpoint, continued background music that doesn't mark the change, followed by a paid sponsorship shill for "hey, if you're worried about this shit, TOTES BUY THIS VPN DUDES" plus icons for "obviously you want some merch or to donate to my patreon!".

Maybe I'm just a cranky bastard in my old age.

How To Be More Productive

Essential Craftsman is one of my favorite YouTube channels. I especially like his "How to build a house" series. I've watched all the videos on his channel. Not that i'll ever use any of the info. I just dig learning about all the things.

Mary Poppins Returns Official Teaser Trailer

Sage, thanks for the info. It makes sense now. Poppins didn't need a sequel. Alot of what made it special was its effects and charm for the time period. Doing the doppelganger mirror image trick now just made the movie creepy.

How Easy it is to Buy a AR-15 in South Carolina

newtboy says...

Not possible here in California. I've tried.
They insist you put it through the full registration process with all associated fees, waiting period during which you turn it in to a gun store, and your id attached in case it's stolen or has been used in crimes. It's surprising that that's not the norm everywhere, but I'm pretty sure Florida doesn't do any of that.
If you could get that info and found out your new gun is stolen during a murder, what then? Ditch it (destroying evidence in a murder and becoming a co conspirator), turn it in (losing your money and becoming a murder suspect), sell it (selling stolen property and hiding evidence in a murder), or what? There's no good option if you bought a gun with a body on it, especially when you can't say where you got it.

If you see nothing wrong with repeatedly crossing state lines to avoid your own state laws, you can't ever complain that it's too easy for criminals to get guns, especially where it's difficult for law abiding citizens, because this is how most of them get illegal unregistered guns.
There's nothing stopping convicted murderers, rapists, and kidnappers from easily building an unregistered arsenal when this is allowed, so absolutely zero possibility of keeping guns away from the clearly criminally insane....that's what you want? It's what you advocate.

Nothing wrong with this.

I would however call my local sheriff and let him know the SN# to check if any wrong doing was done with this gun.

Trump Uses Nunes Memo to Attack Russia Probe: A Closer Look

bobknight33 says...

Trey Gowedy did read the FISA documents and did provide great incite in writing the Nunes memo.

Don't think there was any direct reading of any part of the memo from fake news outlets.

As for the memo::: Bombshell.::::::

Comey own words indicated that this dossier is “salacious and unverified."
McCabe testified “that no surveillance warrant would have been sought from the FISA court without the Steele dossier information”

Yet both signed off to obtain / renew the FISA surveillance.

The fact that the FISA has to be renewed every 90 days and that top leadership ( FBI Director James Comey, McCabe,) and others. The fact that they had to re-sign off every 90 days makes this even worse.

James Comey signed three FISA applications
Deputy Director Andrew McCabe signed one.
Sally Yates, and Rod Rosenstein each signed one or more FISA applications on behalf of DOJ.

They all knew this was a bad document and this was for political reasons.

McCabe wife working for Global Fusion GPS worked on this steel document. McCabe’s wife received 500k for her political run from Hillary Clinton.

The Muller investigation was started due to this dossier. An un verified political slanted document.

Since this memo came out we find out that Hillary Clinton/DNC passed info to Steele to put in the dossier ..

The market drop is not from the memo. The market is fine , slight pull back from explosive growth. Hoped you did some stock shopping Friday.

As for the memo::: Bombshell.::::::
Using the minimally verified Steele dossier that the Clinton/ DNC ,( started by the RNC) then gave to FBI/DOJ is fine with me. IF IT WERE TRUE.

According to the head of the FBI's counter intelligence division, corroboration of the Steele dossier was in its "infancy" at the time of the initial
Page FISA application. After Steele was terminated, a source validation report conducted by an independent unit within FBI assessed Steele's reporting as only minimally corroborated.

The rubbing point is that the FBI/DOJ used this material supplied by Steele to obtain a FISA warrant to spy on an American citizen, Carter Page to indirectly to spy on Trump for political reasons.

This is just the starting point for the American people, as more info is put forth.

With respect to the FISA court itself-- they did their job. The information brought to the court is to be true and accurate.

I want to hear your take on the memo....I know mine.

Do you, like me, see the stock market crash as a response to it? I feel like those CEO s that are banking on Trump's policies were horrified to see what was being presented as a defensive move, because there is nothing there. Zero. Nada. Zip. Even if the accusations are true, and they aren't as presented in it, there wasn't a thing there that violated FISA or normal procedures.

I'm really curious if you still think it's a smoking gun of some kind, and not just a whining note from a retiring sycophant with no fact or legal charge included....and if so, why and of what?

Full Frontal - We Need to Talk About Stephen Miller

newtboy says...

Bob, I must congratulate you. Your caricature of gullible republicans is spot on.

I guess Obama is going down for being an illegal immigrant from Kenya, right? Hillary for Benghazi, and all federal law enforcement for......having some agents who don't like or respect orange Kanye, just like every Republican senator and representative just months earlier. I guess you're just lucky that wasn't Obama's move, or they would have released all their damming info about Trump and not implicated Clinton last minute, but somehow now that they're investigating Trump they're all deep state democrats (that threw an election to elect Trump).
You cannot be that dumb, the fact you remember to breathe is proof you have too much intelligence to believe such flipflopping theories that require amnesia of yesterday to believe today's new utter bullshit story.

It's hilariously transparent that, according to Trump, the FBI, CIA, and NSA are suddenly republican enemies (so much for being the law and order party, huh?) and Putin is your friend. Reagan would be so proud.

I have a much broader scope than immigrants.

Obama, Hillary, and top FBI, CIA all going down.

Trump holding all the cards.

Mexican Police Robbing Phone Store

Sagemind says...

In Mexico, last I heard, it was mandatory for everyone to spend time in the Military/police force. There is no vetting, so these are everyday regular guys, in their appointed uniforms. This is where the corruption in Mexico stems from.
It's easy to pay them off to do your personal bidding, because they aren't there by choice, working for the good of the people.

Of course my info is old, it's what I was told by locals years ago when I lived there for a short time, years ago. It may have changed by now, though it doesn't look like it.

Officer disciplined after getting angry over White Privilege

newtboy says...

Good info there....thanks.

What I read there is he was ignorantly incredulous about a statistic because, not knowing any transgender people, he hasn't heard any complain about their mistreatment.
As an official who was giving a training seminar on how to professionally and respectfully deal with people who are different from you, her response was disastrous.
If they intend to continue having her lead these seminars, I hope they retrain her to be professional and respectful when dealing with people who are different from her, even if they are an ignoramus.

From my take the white male privilege comment seemed pretty accurate since the guy was arguing that the statistics from a study must be false since he hadn't personally experienced the activities that had been studied.
