Canada misses Bowie
I'd totally forgotten he was in that movie, but I remember I enjoyed it a lot when it came out. The Illusionist was also good, but it was another "coincidence" year of the super similar movie premise.
Open Letter to Ellen Degeneres: Don't Promote A Psychic
Jesus, that took 5 minutes to make a point that could have been made in 30 seconds.
"Psychics are con-artists, charlatans and evil scumbags who prey on the grieving using simple illusionist tricks that any 12 year old kid could be taught in a few minutes. Stop giving them air time"
There, done. Now Rebecca can get back to being freaked out when people invite her for a cup of coffee.

Fox News & Friends Lies about Atlas Shrugged Box Office
>> ^EMPIRE:
according to Boxofficemojo.com this movie cost 20 million dollars to make, and brought in 3 million so far. So... yeah, awesome success.
Very few that aren't in the main studio rotation make a profit, especially during their theatrical runs. A lot of that has to do with politics and the collusion between theaters and distributors. Another big portion of that has to do with funds allocated to marketing, which tends to always be very little for independent films.
For our film, we spent tens of thousands to get it into theaters knowing full well we'd lose that money completely. It was never about making a profit for us, though that would be really nice. It's about exposure and building a career.
The Illusionist only made 2.2 mil with a budget of 17 mil. Does that mean it's a failure? No, because it may make its money back through eventual PPV, rentals and DVD/Blu-Ray sales. Eventually that's where we also hope to make some of our money back.
Reading the Bible Will Make You an Atheist
I find it funny that a self respecting atheist can call himself a magician. It's illusionist damnit.
QI - Blowing Smoke Up One's Ass
I love Stephen Fry. I love QI.
However, you've hit upon why I refuse to upvote this video. Not one mention of the idiom? Absurd.
My cursory research turns up that this belief/contraption is not actually related to the idiom "to blow smoke up one's ass". That saying is dated to the mid-20th century, when the rectal intensifier was added to the less crass "to blow smoke", which phrase derived from illusionist's use of smoke to distract the audience & disguise their surreptitious actions.>> ^kymbos:
Is that where the term comes from? I've often wondered.
America's Got Talent - Amazing Illusion by Michael Grasso
Very slick, but I think I figured it out.
I think there is a third person squished in the post holding up the clear box. When the cloth goes up, the third person sticks their arm up and hand out the hole. As soon as that hand grabs the second cloth, the girl slips out of the bottom-right of the box, they do the switch, and the guy climbs quickly up into the box. Then you can see when the cloth is torn away, the hand switches from a left hand to the illusionist's right hand.
Only was able to figure it out from multiple viewings, and they were very good, so they lose no points from me. Definite upvote.

Dupe: http://www.videosift.com/video/Cutting-edge-magic
You are right. Either the sift search sucks, or that original needs to get some better tags. I searched many terms and this video didn't come up in the results.
The quality of the other vid is also pretty crappy, but I will *discard this. If someone with privileges can call the "dupeof", it'll transfer the 6 votes.
Neil Patrick Harris Presents Hans Klok - World Magic Awards
Hans Klok is an amazing illusionist. I wish I had his ability to make hot sexy women appear in a flash.
Jesus is Everywhere....
Jesus is everywhere....but he is no where. When your illusion requires no proof....actually demands that you require none, well, is there a limit? Jesus, if he existed at all, has got all the illusionists beat by miles. David Copperfield and Chris Angel...step aside for the master. Jesus doesn't even have to do ANYTHING (maybe not even exist), and people just eat it up. UNBELIEVABLE!!
Puppeteering trick explained
This also explains some illusionist tricks.
David Copperfield's Portal Illusion
he is an illusionist, so remember, everything you see is part of the illusion, from the random picking of audience to the camera angles that you get to see etc. havent seen the trick yet, but i easily spotted how he walked through the wall of china, so i feel overconfident in my usual cocky way about my abilities to spot the tricking bits in this as well.
and just for the records, i enjoy a good illusion i also enjoy picking at them. if it ruins the fun for you, then dont read the rest
ok here my stab at this
the dissapearing, very obvious camera movement/angle/timing here. it is covering up the escape route entirely, so we dont get to point at copperfield like you can in the china wall video the curtains flying in their perfectly timed and controlled manner bakwards over the platform... i wonder what is being pulled off underneath it.
all the secret action on the platfrom is happening at the base they are standing on. that little extra step up they are standing on. if the curtains would only cover the actor and copperfield, it would be no need for that extra length. so some sort of pulling thing, plus a wheel or harness, and they are flying out either on the ramp, or maybe inside it. he says it is a steel ramp, but that is just another hint that no, it is definately not a pure steel ramp. he just wants you to think it is.
So when the light is high up inside there, copperfield and the actor are at work at the base. the "image a perfect place" line and the scream is prerecorded.
the hawaii bit. too easy. tricking through a camera... kinda cheap, and over the top actors and a cheesy story line
watch for example for the "proof that it is real ocean" and the forced close ups.
and extra actors placed in the crowd for this televised version.
