Coolios acoustic jam with Students

BicycleRepairMan says...

Must have been 10 phones there filming that shit, and the one idiot who didn't manage to hold it horizontally was the one who put it on youtube. What a useless world of technological wonder we live in.

THIS IS SPARTA! Justice is served!

Payback says...

Yes, think of it like a horizontal elevator. It won't go unless the door is closed.

The issue compounds the longer the train sits there, as further along -at least in NY, iirc- there are junctions where more than one train cross each other, so that timing becomes hyper-critical. All Hell can break lose during high-volume use.

The proper etiquette would be to leave her friend and then wait at their stop down the line -which is douchey-, or choose to vacate the train and wait for the next, which was decided for her.

I live in a location bereft of this mode of transportation. Enlighten me. She was holding up the train?

Ping Pong Knife

messenger says...

Putting the knives through the paddles could be possible. And cool.

The pineapple one is fake for two reasons:
a) it's not possible to practice it safely -- the margin of error is too small for humans
b) the odds of hitting the pineapple exactly horizontal in both x- and z-planes are too long
c) I frame-by-framed it, and the perfect cut in the pineapple appears before the knife hits it
I'm guessing that knife was made of rubber, or was CGI'ed in later.

The ping-pong ball one might be possible, but in this case, I'm sure it was faked. I think she had the ball in her mouth the whole time and the ball was CGI'ed in later like in Forrest Gump and the Bruce Lee one. If it were real, her mouth would have been open wider and longer before the ball got there, and she would have been using a sharp intake of breath to increase the chances of catching it.

Great show though. Upvote!

Don't believe what you see on camera...

LiquidDrift says...

Heh, dont' believe what you see indeed! If you play it in slow-mo you can see they are "morphing" from one girl to another. Especially at the end of the transition, her face gets way thinner horizontally. Really well done though.

Carly Rae Jepsen Throws Terrible First Pitch

lucky760 says...

I tend to disagree. For example, in eric3579's video above, the pro female and male still tend to throw in the typical way, with the female mostly vertical, rotating sideways and the male going mostly horizontal, leaning forward.

Not sure what you mean by "did no better than the women..."

Ah, I see. You are focusing on "throwing ability" (accuracy, speed, etc.), whereas I'm just talking strictly about posture.

PalmliX said:

If you watch the entire episode they find that the differences between men and women's throwing ability is almost entirely cultural. i.e. boys are more exposed to ball sports than girls. Pro women ball players have the same technique as the men. When asked to throw with their opposite hand (i.e. left instead of right) the men basically did no better than the women. The pelvis shape thing was just a theory they threw out there initially when they didn't finish doing all their tests.

Carly Rae Jepsen Throws Terrible First Pitch

Mythbusters recently did a scientific analysis on the difference in throwing posture between boys and girls. It's always been obvious that females tend to look much different than boys when throwing, but I never realized until seeing that episode that the specific reason is girls stay almost vertical throughout the throw and boys tend to go almost horizontal. Part of the reason for that seems to be the physiology of the pelvis.

I found that to be rather fascinating. Call me maybe.

Bitchy Resting Face

L0cky says...

Funny, I was just thinking about this yesterday on a flight.

One thing I've noticed as a sufferer of ARF is that flight attendants don't really greet you when you board a plane. They greet everyone in front, then just kinda skip you, then greet everyone else.

I least I give their jowls a rest from their horizontal smile face that got burned in from doing their job for too long

This skipper has some skills

That Bike Is STOOPIDTALL

Payback says...

Actually, he wouldn't fall straight down, he would get a lot of horizontal velocity and ultimately hit at about the same speed as a 6-7 ft fall. With a good tuck-n-roll, maybe a broken bone worst case, pulled ligaments probably.

I assume he's ridden (and presumably fallen off of) bikes like this before, only shorter. There are several people riding around him on bikes that are in the 5-6ft tall range.

Sax Battle In NYC Subway

sadicious says...

I don't see why the camera cannot be adjusted to record correctly, and have the preview be a shrunk version of the horizontal view.

Recording an event should facilitate the event first, and the ineptitude of the operator second. The width of a subject is usually greater than it's height, or the distance between two subjects is based on horizontal distance. Recording devices/software should be made to assume this if it is true most of the time. Have a manual option to enable the type of recording seen in this video.

This is not like early video games. So much media these days is not only created on but also consumed on mobile phones. And phones are easier and more convenient when held in one hand, portrait mode.

My personal opinion is that this is the way things are going, as long as the devices retain the same form factor then they're simply easier to use this way.

How does he do it?
