Fatty fatty two by four?

vil says...

Your mirror is bent. Even your door looks skinny in that mirror. Should we feel sorry for you, now that you are free to do something useful and positive with your life? Shoot a horizontal video of something nice!

Most Insane Footage Yet From The China Explosion

vil says...

Adrenalin. Its really exciting when something dangerous is happening close by. Its like youre drunk or a bit high, you say stupid things in a funny voice. What could they have done better? The explosion would not have fit in a horizontal video. The "get out of the way before the holy shit hits us" magnitude of this is easily apparent and they get going fairly expediently.

A perfect backflop

Payback says...

I took judo for like, 2 hours, so I'm like an expert on cushioning falls, but I've done this landing -from about that high- both forwards and backwards and it's 20x less painful on your back.

You have to be going quite a bit faster than a 12-14 ft drop before the "like hitting concrete" effect starts to factor in. The horizontal speed she has helps too. The force isn't straight down but on an angle.

I will agree she probably had the breath knocked out of her.

Asmo said:

It's not only the sting of the slap, it's the raw concussive force of a large surface area (ie. nape to ass) meeting strong surface tension. The best way to land is to break the surface tension with the smallest area possible (ie. fingertips, toes etc) allowing the body to slide in to the water.

Goat and Llama Interact With Random Guy On Street

Fairbs says...

You're right. I don't do much video recording on my phone.

There is a work around if you do switch in the middle. You watch the horizontal part lying down.

GenjiKilpatrick said:

once you start filming, you can't switch.

At least, that's my understand of these things.

Then again, what do I know?

I'm just your everyday, average llama.

Hypnotic Ink Physics in 4K Slow Motion - The Slow Mo Guys

serosmeg says...

4k should be called 4x (4 times) or better - 2160p to be in line with every previous standard of video resolution. Why does everyone call it 4k? Are we rounding the width measurement up now (3840)? When do we ever round pixels? When did we switch from vert to horizontal pixels? I guess i have to start calling 1080 2k since its about twice as many mega pixels as 720.

... oh yeah, cool video.

Vikersund 2015: Peter Prevc breaks world record, flies 250m

Sniper007 says...

At what point does this intersect with base jumpers who can fly horizontally for far greater distances? It seemed as though this guy was simply limited because the mountain ended...

Why do mirrors flip horizontally (but not vertically)?

Sagemind says...

Seems as though she's paraphrased Feynman's video.

Instinctively, I know it's a reflection. What is closest to the plane of the mirror on one side will appear closest to the plane on the refection. We don't flip horizontal or vertically, we reflect. What is on our right stays to the right, and what is left, stays to to the left.
I love Feynman, and I can listen to him for hours. but I didn't need his discussion to understand it either.

From a scientific point of view, I suppose it's good to lay it out. A solid foundation is the best thing to build off of, and finding the words to describe seemingly abstract ideas is always a challenge. This one was easy, but I know they get harder.

Maybe not so obvious to most, as Feynmen thought it worthy of discussing and it seems pretty apparent he doesn't share your feelings.

How fracking works

newtboy jokingly says...

Tin foil hat wearing newtboy is not angrily screaming on the street corner to no one.

EDIT:YT description...industry description of their video includes the word "safe" twice in describing an unsafe practice, and "environmentally responsible" to describe an environmentally disastrous process....but not propaganda?

"Safe, cost-effective refinements in hydraulic fracturing (also known as fracking), horizontal drilling and other innovations now allow for the production of oil and natural gas from tight shale formations that previously were inaccessible. This video introduces the proven techniques used to extract resources from shale formations in a safe, environmentally responsible manner."

OK then. Guess I'm just a nut job.

Truck Does a Massive Jump into Mud

spawnflagger says...

plus a normal "horizontal" video would not have captured those cut-off-jean-shorts, which certify this as taking place during authentic redneck event.

It was an awesome jump though.

I'd say vertical video is ok here. Dude got some serious air.
