Hugh Laurie: British Slang vs American Slang

mizila says...

Ummm.... accents are not slang words.... - MarineGunrock

They're actually discussing British vs. American slang, not accents. -xax

I think what MG is saying is "shawty" is not slang, it's "shorty" said with an accent. If they're including accents, "flossing" should really be said "flossin'" more so than "shorty" should be said "shawty." In fact "shawty" is so close to "shotty," if he'd have said "a shotgun" she would've had to give it to him.

Then again maybe he meant the whole "chin wag" vs. "shin wag" debacle.

I was under the impression that badonkadonk was from country music

I think you're referring to Trace Adkins's 'Honky Tonk Badonkadonk' which is definitely a play on the rap term, so no, not originated from country music at all.

I suggest we present CaptainPlanet420 with an award... (Sift Talk Post)

Christ I see this again and again. What is the difference between racism and homophobia? It's still offensive, hurtful and out of line. Ignorant comment

My comment was not meant to exclude the other various bigoted things people can say to any number of ethnic groups, sexual orientations, genders, or ages. It was to provide an example of a comment that would be in blatant violation of Sift Guidelines. If I come on the sift and start making posts consisting only of "KILL FUCKING WHITEY" and "HONKIES GO BACK TO OKLAHOMA," then yes I am in violation of sift guidelines and would summarily be permabanned. I am no apologist for CaptainPlanet's views, but until he starts saying homosexuals should be left to die in open fields, he is not in violation of posting guidelines.

Do I find his views distasteful? Yes. Do I think he is misinformed about many topics? Yes. Do I think he is rude and tactless with his responses? Yes. Do I think he should be silenced because I disagree with him? No. Most importantly, Has he broken any of the posting guidelines?

If so, please show me where. The 5 links you provided in the first post do not indicate any violation of posting guidelines - they merely illustrate that he is unpopular and produces poor comments.

Boondocks - MLK Speech

theo47 says...

This sort of thing requires context - it's OK for Cartoon Network air it; it takes on an entirely different context when a bunch of honkies upvote it.

Not crazy about someone putting words in MLK's mouth, either - as he was someone who was quite careful about what he said and how. Malcolm was the confrontational one; King was a pacifist.
