It's a bloody lifelike animation, I'll give it that.
You sure it's animation and not digitized previous footage?

Well, from the article I linked to: "The blend of previously recorded live footage and CGI was created by Digital Domain"

I demand entertainment as a consumer. It is my duty as a consumer and their intent as performers to remain my entertainment. Tupac approves. The check has been cashed.

If this becomes a trend prepare to see your favourite dead rock stars back on stage, and re-purposed, re-voiced and re-scripted to suit the the requirements or agenda of whoever's pulling the strings.
New Michael Jackson stage musical anyone?

Yeah @lucky760, it's not a hologram (although someone took me to task about the exact definition of hologram once in the past).

It is projected onto a screen and it's a combination of previous live performances of Tupac and a digital creation by Digital Domain.

It's a bloody lifelike animation, I'll give it that.

Very cool, no doubt, and I'd love to see it in person, but I recoil a little when I hear this technology described as a hologram. It's not a 3D rendering, as far as I understand it. It's just a life-sized projection onto a really large semi-transparent surface. Right? Or am I missing something?

Yeah I think it's the same technology that they use for that japanese anime popstar Hatsune Miku.

While this is a definite +1 for technology and showmanship, it's a definite -1 for the legacy of your favourite musicians. If this becomes a trend prepare to see your favourite dead rock stars back on stage, and re-purposed, re-voiced and re-scripted to suit the the requirements or agenda of whoever's pulling the strings.

Google Project Glass smart glasses

Porksandwich says...

I don't see anything in this video that has the slightest appeal to me.

If I had glasses like this, I'd want them to serve as my computer screen. Allowing me to create a workspace when I could have large space to work, zoom in and out at will and turn my head or rotate in my chair to see more open workspace or pre-designed things I could use.

If they could give you a screen in your glasses wirelessly and capture hand movements without needing a physical input device...that'd be something really impressive and powerful.

Think about a room of people wearing these glasses, able to create a shared "thing" in the middle of the room everyone could walk around, see, and work on. Ideally a hologram would be better since you could make sure you're all seeing the same thing, but the glasses would go beyond what a projected screen or television could ever do.

The Amazing Spider-Man - Trailer

That is some super bad hair on Spidey. The thumbnail makes me laugh out loud. Almost won't see this I hate Dennis Leary so much (comedic hack).

I was seriously hoping for Mysterio. With a 3D movie they are missing out on some serious cool holograms (or is it holographs?) Fighting the Lizard, besides the walking upright and having thumbs, is kind of like super gator-wrestling. Can he speak with no lips. =)

'splosions look cool though. Couldn't tell if Dr. Connors was missing a limb like in Spidey 2.

History Lesson for the History Channel

Sketch says...

And the Science Channel now shows a lot of Firefly. Love Firefly, but really, Science Channel? At least when they gave up on Discovery Kids, and Hasbro bought in, they changed the name to the Hub instead of "Discovering" old episodes of "Jem and the Holograms".
