Chomsky on socialized medicine

choggie says...

The illusion that most Americans who are calling for reasonable heath care (socialized, so you think) buy into, is that providing it to everyone will somehow miraculously give everyone full-access to dependable, reliable treatment-

The facts are thus: we have in the United States, way better facilities, doctors, and care than F, C, Cuba (for crissakes, are you kidding???) etc-The problem is simple:
Most monkeys are ignorant, simpering, fools who, A: Fear their own demise over all else the planet has to offer, and B: know absolute DICK about keeping themselves away from a doctor's office, because their diet is so fucked up-

Food is the poison my friends, and genetics and surprise conditions aside, the burden on the United States health care system comes from the poor (who are ignorant regarding nutrition) and ILLEGAL FUCKING ALIENS, you absolute dipshitz, who want the government to take care of you cradle to the fucking grave, GET A GRIP-

To suggest, that the reason you are going to vote for any of the candidates running on some illusory ticket which includes some universal health care scenario, reveals the absolute mind-fucking ignorance of that justification.

You want to blame the government??..Fine. You are an idiot.
You want to begin to understand the dynamics of the big picture, blame insurance companies, pharmaceutical companies, and yourselves for being so wide fucking asleep all your lives, regarding the whys behind the whats.

I carry no insurance-I need health care, I go and get whatever stitches or bones set that I need.....for free, without insurance-when I can afford to buy health insurance, I will do so when I need to avail myself of those services, at that time-This is the wonder, of being white and polite, in America

get rid of the invaders from Mexico, get rid of the World Bank, get rid of 1 percent of the world controlling the other 99%, take back what has been stolen from you, and miraculously, you may begin to see some real change......to hem and haw about ancillary issues like this, is like looking through a telescope from mars at Earth on a cloudy day-diversion

hey...All you Public Heath Care screamers?? What would be 100 times better than socialized-type medicine?
Policing the intake, of the poison that causes MOST of the things the current heath care system has been burdened with, since the beast began growing heads:

Stop poisoning yer bodies with food, and keep privatized health care.

Allow citizen-only access to the current pay-as-you-go method, and allow the "mostly" illegal members of the country (u.s) access to some in-country, not regulated by the AMA or other such entities, health-care provided by volunteers, drop-out med students who will work for food, or others who practice out of their vehicles or homes??

Funny thing is, you would be able to give everyone access, for free, if people were not ignorant of the evil they do their own systems, the disease and cancer, they bring upon themselves......The true culprits of disease, and the need for a re-vamping of a broken system, are advertisers, pharmaceutical interests, and fast-food empires, allowed to build more death-stands, every minute, of every day.....oh...forgot to mention the sad excuse for public education, and people's own, selfish desire.

Dirty Little Secret - Universal Healthcare? Social Security?

sometimes says...

and what about insane military spending, bridges to nowhere, and mass tax cuts for the rich?

no, it's always framed such that programs that benefit the majority have to be cut, but never touch the things that benefit the ultra rich. Somehow, every other country on the planet pays less for heath care, and a very large number of them have much better health. Maybe if the Govt. wasn't in the pocket of the heath industry, we wouldn't all suffer for the exorbitant profits of a few executives.

Moore vs Blitzter

Rotty says...

antimatter,

No, I have not seen this "documentary" yet, but will. I base my comments on his previous, compromised work. It's not *all* his fault, I said "helping". "Health problem"...ahhh...ok. No, I'm not missing the point. I actually agree there are major problems with heath care in the US. However, for him to rant and whine like he did in this interview is damn stupid because: 1) he won't win anyone over who is not a fanboi of his and; 2) he goes ballistic because someone questions him and what he has done...gee isn't that what he does for a living?

SiCKO - Full Documentary

choggie says...

took how many posts on this thread till someone pointed out a scenario closer to the reality of heath care everywhere in so-called, first world countries???? No fan of Mike Moore here either, as stated before, the bloat calls attention to symptoms of a disease, and offers his signature balm of sarcasm, smug tone, and spin....The solution to pathetic health care anywhere, may be to take the pharmaceutical companies down to ground zero, the insurance rackets as well...i.e., take those money-sucking, vampiric factor out of the equation, give them what they need and not what they feed....the chasm of greed will never be filled....

As far as expatriation goes,.... no real fan of the morons in the US, born and raised here, and so few folks with a shit-lick of sense, and some of the most boring, motivationally deprived, and uni-dimensional num-nuts one would ever care to suffer....getting worse with each new generation....but....what is to be appreciated, enjoyed, and embraced, is the culture, drive, and intelligent souls, that ARE still available in these United States.....that goes for any country....the many, follow the few-Think we'll stay here for a while.....where else can one get the space one needs, to walk out on their porch in their birthday suit, and fire a high-powered rifle off in any direction, without having to worry about, Coppers called, or neighbors hit???....Australia maybe, but who the fuck wants to live on a continent full of frogs and bunnies????? and skin cancer....well, there are the nude beaches and backward toilet drainage.....

Mike Moore, how bout you drop about 90 pounds, by not stuffing your face for a while, then you won't be so thinkin'so hard about the inevitability of you neeeedin' health care????

(He sure knows how to instigate a bitch session...does this guy know who to bitch at yet????.....FUUUCK!)

Amazing Health Care in France - Scene from "Sicko"

Farhad2000 says...

I recently watched this film and it's a very subjective and not objective view of the Health Care system and problems within, yes alot of the issues Moore raises do exist but his presentation only works against the point he is trying to bring across.

There is no discussion of the problems heath care systems face in Canada, UK and France face due to their very nature of being available to all. No mention of increasing demand as you increase the supply of health care and nothing to place it into the context of the baby boomer generation that is soon retiring.

Nationalized health care systems would need a step up in taxation which is a no go area in American politics for the last 7 years.

EDIT: On a side note, I really detested how much of the film was emotional hijacking.

Stupid In America (40 min)

sometimes says...

Markets lead to selling people the cheapest, most low-grade swill at a "good" price. (MickeyD's anyone?)
They also lead to luxury items for the wealthy, and funneling disproportionate ammounts of money to a small number of people. Once you add in stock markets, performance becomes measured not on the quality of the product, but on the ability to make shareholders rich.

The No Child Behind initiative only offers punishment to bad schools, and no incentives. This encourages teaching to the test. Many of the people pushing for private school vouchers are involved in the private school industry and/or companies that come in and set up Charter schools.

I personally have experienced some really bad teachers. Also, teacher's pay is generally pertty uninspiring considering all the hurdles one must face to become a teacher. stat I found says 2003 it was $47,000. It does seem that there should be incentives and threats for teachers. Students face rewards and punishments for achievement in schools, but teachers rarely do.

Tax incentives are a terrible idea. More beaurocracy, and they benefit those who pay more taxes than those who pay less. a $5000 tax break does little for someone below the poverty line who only pays a few hundred in taxes.

Most voucher programs I've seen give the parent a few grand. This is useless to someone who can't afford to pay for the rest of the cost to go to private schools. What this does, is give those who can almost afford private schools that extra bump, and gives a bonus to the weathy who can easily afford private schools.

But it seems like a terrible idea to just ship kids off to annother school when their's underperforms and is shut down. an hour commute on a schoolbus seems like a GREAT idea.

Health care is annother disaster of market forces. The executives at many of the mega-sized heath care institutions in the US make up to 1000 times as much as a neurosurgeon.

I've never seen the army hold a bake sale.

kids are swarmed with vastly more stimulation today than a few decares ago. It's no wonder that a school system based on rural levels of stimulus is failing in this age of massively targeted advertizing campaigns. Consider the Olson twins who built a huge empire targeting and stimulating pre-teen girls.

Public schools generally encourage rote memorization, and learing through repitition. I went through school knowing more about the subjects than many of the teachers. I had parents who cared, and tought me many subjects before I even started school. I recall clearly being annoyed by molasses pace of kindergarten and 1st grade. I was doing 2 column math problems, while some of my fellow cretins classmates were reciting out loud "a straight line is fun, and now you've made a one" when they were struggling to learn to simply write numbers. By the time I hit middle school, the education system had taught me that mediocraty was an ideal to strive for. If I excelled, they didn't know what to do with me, and would give me more of the same pointless tedious repititious busywork. So I coasted through most classes, getting C grades in the dull ones, and A grades in the interesting ones. Mostly I would sketch in class, skip most homework, and ace the tests, which were easy. A quick skim of the reading assignment was really all that I needed.
