Every Teardrop is a Waterfall - Coldplay

beardy man explains why indie is shit

bookface says...

Been saying it for years: indie is shit. It is pastiche pop art, meaning it's inherently derivative. Ironically, musicians and fans of indie fancy themselves counter-cultural (hipsters) when all they've managed to do is raid their parent's record collection and grandparent's wardrobe. Furthermore, there needs to be a moratorium on the following instruments: glockenspiel, celesta, toy piano, or any other bell like instrument. These are staples of the indie diet and they make any track INSTANTLY sound like a Target commercial. I could go on but indie will be dead and gone before I'd finish the rant.

Thanks for the promote. I just sent an e-mail of Andrew Bird youtube performances I like to a friend; thought I'd share with you in case you hadn't caught some:

"
Here's a song that's much better live than on the record, performed at the Fillmore with a fun audience... fun lyrics, and lyrical presentation:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-Buxc-CNfLM

Here he is again on the violin, and also playing guitar and glockenspiel, with a band backing him up:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wmKGPyYcf8g

Here's a slower song from a CD coming out Jan. 20th called Noble Beast (that album title is a David Attenborough reference):
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cYwUVSUd3Ko

Here's a strange one of him walking around Paris singing and playing for a popular French music blog:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PsR0uyPxqxI

Here's a song I really like,... he supposedly got the lyrics from a letter he found on the ground (he said the letter started 'Dear Dirty,' and then went on to describe in a simple caveman dialect what it was like being a caveman):
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aKnjsRvsyGQ

Finally, here he is first playing a song he wrote for a children's show he appeared on, then rolling into an intense performance of a pretty wild song:

It's okay, Issykitty. I like the "comments" number to get all pumped up so people think there's a really interesting conversation going on inside and thereby watch the video to see what all the hubub is about and, maybe, vote for it. I sure am glad I got my bronze before this 2-day queue thing because I probably would've given up! Thanks for your votes.

Vibraphone Orchestra

CptMonkeyPants says...

Actually there is only one Vibraphone in that "orchestra" all the ladies are playing Marimbas (longer wooden keys). A vibraphone has metal keys and a foot pedal like a piano which is used to let the notes resonate longer... a Xylophone is made out of a composite material not wood like a marimba or metal like a vibraphone. Also just metal keys without any resonators are called "bells" or "glockenspiel". Everyone’s percussion lesson for the day
